Chapter 207: A long long day in Limia (top)

Normal and Sponsored Chapter

The Meiris Lake and the surrounding land is a special area that is managed by the Limia Kingdom.
In the public, there’s a number of fronts, but in essence, it is the same as Gritonia Empire; a place that they have formed a contract with a dragon and the royal family is protecting.
Different from the Empire, the contract is something of the long past and has already begun fading from the memories of many people in Limia, and now only the royal family and nobles with authority know of the details.
Currently, the common knowledge of the Meiris Lake is not that it is the territory of a Superior Dragon, but that it is the training place of Limia with the highest danger level.
Misumi Makoto and Otonashi Hibiki were riding their horses and entered through the closest eastern gate, and they walk through the surface of earth that was made from the steps of others.
By the way, the guards of the eastern gate were suddenly notified that the hero would be going and were at their peak in nervousness. After desperately doing the explanation of Meiris Lake and safely finishing their introductions, they kneeled down.
“In Japan, horse riding is considered a special skill, but here, you just naturally learn it.” (Hibiki)
“Right, I was like that as well.” (Makoto)
“How many times did you experience having your horse run at full speed?” (Hibiki)
“Hm, it was a short distance, but around three times. Senpai seems to be quite used to riding. Do you ride them normally? Or did you have experience when you were in Japan?” (Makoto)
“Yeah, I had normal experience in Japan. But because I only knew the basics, it actually made it harder since I had to get used to riding on the horse and to the change of viewpoints. Even when it is the same form, the techniques required were different.” (Hibiki)
At the Meiris Lake, there’s a forest, a prairie, and a number of hills; and all of those together, make it as if it is one big national park.
Defeating mamonos or ending up as their meal are all your own responsibility.
The two were in a forest not far away from the capital that’s thick enough to be called a sea of trees. They were doing a conversation that didn’t fit the place as they walk through it.
They encountered mamonos a few times, but Hibiki cut them with the end of her sword.
Makoto was only following her from behind.
“By the way, Makoto-kun, this is the first time I have heard of people living in this place. What is it you are delivering?” (Hibiki)
“Sorry, it is supposed to be a secret, so I can’t answer. If the other party doesn’t mind it, I will show you at that time.” (Makoto)
“Too bad. The reason was plain curiosity, but I might as well try asking the other party.” (Hibiki)
Hibiki was really interested in the object that Makoto was delivering, but she easily drew back.
If she were to forcefully try to take a look at it or learn of it, it would be obvious that it would make the atmosphere heavy, and there was no benefit in that.
“Even so…Senpai has gotten strong. It seems like there’s no need for me to do anything. If I remember correctly, when you were in Japan, you were a national level swordswoman.” (Makoto)
Makoto remembers that Hibiki was an exemplar kendo user and nods.
There was one time when Makoto had seen a match of hers since the archery club match was over and it was close.
At that time, the eyes of Makoto saw in the sword of Hibiki, not only kendo, but also an old sword style mixed in it as well. He didn’t touch on that point though.
“My role is to protect you after all. If I weren’t able to protect you on my own, I would have called my companions as well. It is a place where I am plenty enough, that’s why it is only the two of us, that’s all there’s to it. I don’t know if you actually need a bodyguard since you are able to make people like Tomoe-san and Mio-san obey you though.” (Hibiki)
And in truth, Hibiki was not actually acting as a bodyguard.
Hibiki’s objective was to have a connection with Makoto, and keeping him in check.
“No, it was a great help that Senpai was in Limia. Because with just Mio and Lime, I don’t think the people of the country would be able to trust us. Even if we have power…it doesn’t mean they will trust us.” (Makoto)
Makoto honestly answers.
If only power was necessary, Makoto would be more trusted by others.
And in truth, Makoto -the Kuzunoha Company’s Raidou- is being seen as a shady existence mostly because of his way of acting, but in a sense, Makoto felt the ‘limit of only having power’.
To reach that conclusion you need to be quite the special case, and even if he feels it, the experience he should be gaining is a different problem.
At the very least, the current Makoto still doesn’t have a clear grasp of the worth of his power.
“…Power is…the basis of everything. When you have enough of it, trust will take form in some way and follow you.” (Hibiki)
“Is that how it works?” (Makoto)
Hibiki has been compensating for her weakness of long ranged attacks with magic and sword technique.
The fire spear that was released from her had pierced through the beast that came lunging at us, and was now carbonized.
The first sign of the attack was when the branches shook from the jump.
With a short aria, she was able to form a relatively powerful magic. This point made me feel the power of a hero.
If the people in Rotsgard Academy were able to do this, they would be able to gain a pretty big advantage.
It is not anything unique, but her foundation has been carefully polished by talent and hard work.
Her ability to defeat the enemy without them being able to do anything was something that made the people looking understand how incredible it was.
Hibiki opened a bit of time and gave an opinion to Makoto’s words, and glances at him.
The fire spear that was shot in front of Makoto’s eyes, the sword technique of Hibiki; Makoto gave words of admiration instead of surprise to all of those as he followed her.
“As an individual, an organization, or in an even bigger society; in the end, people are practically doing a competition in how much of that ‘power’ they can obtain. It’s as if they are placing that basis as their everything.” (Hibiki)
(So my power is within his predicted level huh. I have shown my serious side to Lime, so this probably can’t be helped.) (Hibiki)
“Even in physical strength and fighting power? It is certainly true that in this world, the power of an individual can overwhelm an army though.” (Makoto)
‘That’s something that only applies to this parallel world, and in Japan that doesn’t work like that, right?’, is what the eyes of Makoto were saying.
That look of his made a number of conjectures Hibiki had of Makoto disappear, and at the same time, it reinforced some conjectures she had as well.
Without showing it in her expression, she continued speaking.
“Even here is the same as Japan, you know? Even if we call it power, this ‘power’ counts physical strength and wisdom. The integration of what you have obtained yourself, and what you have gathered; this will determine the size of your influence in society.” (Hibiki)
“…”
“Mankind are animals that show their best performance when they flock together. For example: friends, companions, and commanders; if those kind of people increase in numbers, they will be able to add their power to others. Even if it’s you alone or a group of people, power is power.” (Hibiki)
“…I feel like… what Senpai is saying and what I am saying are not coinciding at all.” (Makoto)
“No, it is exactly the same. Just that our allies are different. I think that no matter what power it is, it can be turned into a numerical value. You don’t think that way. I think that’s all there’s to it.” (Hibiki)
“Numerical value huh. It is certainly true that I haven’t thought much in that way. In the first place, I feel like it would be pointless to turn physical strength and wisdom into numbers.” (Makoto)
A judgemental opinion was given by Makoto.
But his expression didn’t show antagonism, it seemed as if he had a lot of questions popping in his head, Hibiki was able to notice it and nods.
Hibiki was having Makoto hear a deep opinion of hers with an intention in mind.
‘Even if you have power, you can’t obtain trust’, using those words of Makoto, she began this argument.
Well, the person himself doesn’t seem to have noticed it much, but even so, Hibiki didn’t mind and continued the conversation.
For the sake of doing what she wants to do with Makoto in this time they are alone.
“Depending on the situation, it will double or be halved, but there’s plenty enough meaning in it. For example, Tomoki-kun and I are normally being compared, but between us heroes, there’s already differences. Strong points and weak points can’t be helped. That’s why, gathering people with aggregate amounts is important, but gathering people with different types of abilities is equally important.” (Hibiki)
“Senpai and Tomoki huh.” (Makoto)
“That’s right. In your analysis, Makoto-kun…hmph, just what do you think?” (Hibiki)
In the middle of her words, she brushed away something resembling a dart, and just like that, she shortened the distance and cut several mamonos with her blade.
When she returned, she continued her question.
He could tell that Hibiki didn’t feel any pressure after entering the east gate that has the highest danger level.
“Tomoki is the offensive type. He is strengthened with his equipment, and by using powerful bursting abilities, he is able to defeat his enemies without them being able to do anything. His number one specialty is probably that. He also has his Charm, but it doesn’t have much point against people that are not affected by it anyways.” (Makoto)
“But in a sense, that Charm of his is the strongest weapon. Thanks to that, his actions within the Empire have gone practically unobstructed. It may be simple but his strategy is to trample down his opponents with high firepower, and with his Charm, he is able to easily turn opposing parties into supporters. Having these two, he is most likely able to do a lot.” (Hibiki)
“Ah, in other words, those points should be added as Tomoki’s power? It is a convenient power that can crush opposition before it occurs after all.” (Makoto)
“Yeah, I do want to hear more about him, but right now, I am more interested in what Makoto-kun sees in me. Can I hear about me?” (Hibiki)
“Senpai is… Ah, I see. So that’s why I thought like that. As expected, how impressive…” (Makoto)
“Makoto-kun?” (Hibiki)
Hibiki thought that she would be hearing an evaluation of herself, but seeing Makoto beginning to understand something by himself, she makes a puzzled expression.
“Ah, sorry. Hibiki-senpai is able to do both physical and magical fights without any problems, and even if your magic is a slight weak point of yours, it is the all-purpose type. If  there’s a hole in your formation, you can fill for the long ranged attack and lack of firepower, and with that reaction speed, I think there’s practically no problem in that.” (Makoto)
“…”
“Compared to Tomoki, your firepower is lower, but I think you win in all other aspects. Also, I feel like Senpai’s specialty is not battling.” (Makoto)
“Heh~.” (Hibiki)
“This is something I thought when I was in Japan too, but Senpai actively looks to obtain connections with people that can do what you can’t. I think that’s incredible. Even though there should be opposition and a lot of other things that make it hard for both parties to connect, you are good at getting along with them, like doing discussions that I wouldn’t be able to imagine we are the same age, and it felt like you were used to speeches.” (Makoto)
“It is not like I can do anything by myself after all. I have other people help me in the things I lack of, isn’t that kind of thinking natural?” (Hibiki)
“Even though you are a person that can do a lot by yourself, you are still able to think in that way. That’s not something natural. And I thought this after hearing what Senpai said just now, that maybe Senpai’s number one power is that.” (Makoto)
“I feel like you are praising me, and at the same time, I feel like you aren’t. Those are vague words.” (Hibiki)
“I am praising you. That no matter what area that person excels in, Senpai is able to look at them without clouded eyes, and see that person’s power. And especially those normal persons that don’t have a big talent or power, you understand that they are able to do something big as long as they gather and help each other. That point of view, or more like, that way of thinking is what I think is Senpai’s number one power.” (Makoto)
Each person has their own plan.
Even so, people gather around the surroundings of Hibiki, cooperate with her, and on top of that, they live for their own objective.
In the eyes of Makoto that is looking at this from far away, that’s how he saw Hibiki and her surroundings.
She is able to accomplish anything, and she is kind to people too.
That’s why Makoto evaluated Hibiki as a perfect superhuman, a genius.
Hearing Hibiki’s way of thinking, his thoughts changed a bit, but the impression of Makoto towards Hibiki didn’t turn bad.
If he were at Hibiki’s side, he would probably be able to find ugly selfish parts of hers, but Makoto and Hibiki didn’t have that much interaction to reach that point.
Making the best out of people.
That’s exactly the talent of Hibiki, is what Makoto thought as he felt true admiration.
“Thanks, I am happy.” (Hibiki)
(…As I thought, he is not an idiot. Even though it is limited, he is able to evaluate people, and he is probably the type that keeps some inside of himself. I have heard about a few poor conducts of him, but…could it be…he still hasn’t learned of a way of acting that fits the stage he is standing in? Kuzunoha Company is a company that has suddenly gathered attention and is growing, it is a possible case. That he is having a radical increase in attention and is growing continuously means that the person himself has high potential, but if his ability and the ability of his company are not proportional… In the time he was at Japan, from what I remember, he was the type that specialized in one talent. He had average grades and physical ability, only in his club did he show extraordinary abilities, is what I think. It is a faint memory that I was somehow able to remember though.) (Hibiki)
“Ahaha, well, I heard from Lime that you had a slightly hard fight at Lorel, but that was probably because there weren’t the necessary people gathered around Senpai at that moment. If it’s Senpai, you probably already have countermeasures for that.” (Makoto)
Being given a honest thanks, Makoto gets embarrassed.
If it were in Japan, this is a situation that would never occur.
“A perfected long ranged firepower huh. It is sad to say, but that countermeasure is still lacking. The reconstruction of the capital is a pressing matter after all. We have been trying a few things with my comrades, but I think that it still isn’t at the passing mark.” (Hibiki)
(But it is clear that he has touched several fields when he arrived at this world. His company’s business conditions and his classification was an anything-goes store. Medicine that doesn’t let anyone follow in effectivity and cost performance. Even though it should be difficult to transport goods in the wasteland, they have a stable supply of ingredients and goods. With their abnormal speed in circulation of goods, I can only think that they have surpassed the modern day Japan. They have a stable management of dwarf equipment that hyumans have a hard time to get their hands on. Tomoe-san, Mio-san, and Lime are employees that have overwhelming power enough to make mercenaries run away. None of those are things that can be obtained by being specialized in archery. In the first place, his actions up until now have been that of a rising merchant, which makes it even harder to believe… In that case…) (Hibiki)
“When talking about long ranged attacks, in this world, as expected, magic is the one that shines. If it’s only a single attack, ritual magic is best, but the preparation is troublesome, and it is easy to make countermeasures for it.” (Makoto)
“Also, it should be a slightly adaptable power. With the firepower of ritual magic, it would be passable, but in adaptability, it is weak. Effectivity, range, accuracy. The reconstruction makes me feel bitter, but my own incompetence too. Even though Rotsgard that was destroyed at the same time has advanced that fast in it, I am here, and that makes me feel that maybe I could have done more.” (Hibiki)
(And most of all, his thick Japanese smell is bothering me. It is already been two years since coming to this world. Even Tomoki who has created a harem, has changed quite a lot compared to his time in Japan, and even I am remembering my past and trying to bring out that old self. And yet, his natural state smells like that of a Japanese, at least on the outside. What’s going on? He is way too involved in this world to be evading reality. Just what kind of lifestyle did he live in order to turn out like this?) (Hibiki)
“In the Kuzunoha Company there are a number of people specialized in long ranged attacks, but as expected, I just can’t lend you my important employees all the time. Sorry.” (Makoto)
“…Is the person that shot that incredible attack in Lorel…one of them as well? That attack was shot from a crazy distance, and had destructive power on the level of a bomb. It was like a cutting-edge weapon in terms of accuracy.” (Hibiki)
(This is something that I have thought after arranging the information I have of me and Tomoki, and checking the common points of us heroes. Could it be that part of those things also apply on him as well? The outward appearance is probably not a requirement when being summoned. It is most likely necessary to have an above-average talent and a special trait, but then, this boy has a number of common points with me? No. The common points of Makoto-kun, Tomoki, and me huh. Maybe I should verify the points that are not the general type from the common points Tomoki and I share. The number one would be his attachment to his original world but…I feel like he is different in that aspect from us.) (Hibiki)
“Ah, that huh. Was it that weird?” (Makoto)
“It wasn’t strange. It was incredible. If someone were to get into a fight with the Kuzunoha Company, it might not be at the level of a capital, but it would be able to wipe out most towns in one attack. Just thinking that, my back shivers.” (Hibiki)
(The Goddess said we can’t return anymore. Tomoki and I accepted this and wished for it, so our attachment isn’t that big. Well, it is true that I sometimes miss the food of Japan and the peaceful life which I feel a different sense of value in. But that’s all there is. The things this world has given me are bigger. It should be the same for Tomoki. Actually, that guy has made a harem that he can do anything with, and even with that, if there’s a time when he says he wants to return to Japan, I feel like as a woman, I would have to eliminate him first before the Demon Lord. There’s also unconfirmed information that some Empire noble has given birth to the child of Tomoki. And in truth, there’s a number of girls that are currently pregnant.) (Hibiki)
“Ahahaha…” (Makoto)
“The person that did that was someone I know? Tomoe-san, or maybe Mio-san?” (Hibiki)
(Well, leaving that aside, the next thing that bothers me is this. Thinking about the natural traits of a hero, I would be able to understand, but I am slightly wondering if those two ‘are the same’ as well.) (Hibiki) <She is most likely referring to an ability like Charm and Charisma. She thinks those two probably have been ‘charmed’ by Makoto.>
“Actually, the elder dwarfs made an incredible weapon, and with that weapon, I uhm… I did it. Uhm, I wouldn’t pointlessly destroy a town, so I hope you understand we wouldn’t use it to make negotiations in Kuzunoha Company.” (Makoto)
After emphasizing that it was a dwarf weapon, Makoto confessed.
“?!!”
(Wait, WHAT DID HE SAY?!) (Hibiki)
“I didn’t expect for it to be so powerful~, ahahaha.” (Makoto)
In Makoto’s case, he thought an attack of that level wasn’t something surprising, but he took the words of Hibiki as how the general populace would interpret it.
“Makoto-kun…shot an attack of that level?!” (Hibiki)
“Well, yeah.” (Makoto)
“…You did it alone, right?” (Hibiki)
“…Yes.” (Makoto)
Hibiki was confirming and Makoto nods.
“…”
“Senpai?” (Makoto)
“I see, so Makoto-kun is a long-range attack expert huh. I was surprised.” (Hibiki)
(My plans on how to deal with him…more than half of them have been trashed. This is bad. In that case, the more I need to ask him that before it becomes unpredictable.) (Hibiki)
“In the first place, my specialty was the bow. Even in this world, I am relying on it.” (Makoto)
“By the way, Makoto-kun, I don’t think it is possible to obtain power of that level by ordinary means but, can I ask you something?” (Hibiki)
It is not like Makoto has faced hardships in his training since coming to this world.
Actually, the time he faced hardships was in his childhood when his body still didn’t have the physical strength of a normal person, and that’s a story of when he was in Japan.
“If it’s something I can answer.” (Makoto)
Makoto answers the question of Hibiki with the convenient phrase he has settled of in saying since becoming a merchant.
“Makoto-kun, have you killed hyumans, demi-humans, or demons?” (Hibiki)
“I don’t know why you mentioned demi-humans and demons separately but, I have. It may be a bit, but I have also experienced the battlefield.” (Makoto)
Makoto easily affirms this.
“So Makoto-kun thinks of the demons as demi-humans. But I see, you have.” (Hibiki)
“Receiving a terrible treatment, being directed murdering intent, being attacked; this world is seriously dangerous for one’s life.” (Makoto)
(Demons and demi-humans are only one race huh. In the hyuman force, it is something that’s rarely heard. Even I unconsciously thought that the demons and the demi-humans were separate races until recently. In that case, in his eyes, he might be seeing the current war with the demons as a revolution from the oppressed class. That’s troublesome. Also, he easily admitted murder. If he learned of morals in Japan, no, if it’s a person that has learned in an advanced country, they should have strong opposition in taking the lives of others. That’s not something you do half-heartedly. There’s a large number of soldiers that choose to forsake their own lives because they are unable to kill others in the battlefield; this is something I read in the documents once. Being able to kill others, in a sense, being able to cross that line can be considered a special trait in itself. When I investigated, I learned that in the past the army had done trainings to numb that avoidance of them. And yet, me, Tomoki and him; all three of us were able to conquer that and have survived until now. Was it a coincidence?) (Hibiki)
“That’s true. I have killed a lot of demons in the battlefield, demi-humans that have pointed their blades at me, and…have killed a number of hyumans as well.” (Hibiki)
“In my case, acquaintances of mine were killed by hyumans and that turned into my motive.” (Makoto)
(A while after losing Naval, I was truly cornered mentally. Even if the other party is an enemy, the action of taking a life is definitely stressful. Especially when your heart is weakened. Right now I am already used to it, but how does Makoto-kun feel about it? From how Tomoki said it, I could feel that Tomoki was just acting tough. But at that rate, I think he has already turned deviant again. It seems like he obtained that power in the weird space before me after all.) (Hibiki)
“…No, at first I thought that this made me a murderer, and I was indeed troubled by it. It is certainly true that I took away the lives of many after that as well, but it was in a place where the other party was prepared for that to happen. And the other is in places like the wasteland where the survival of the fittest prospers.” (Makoto)
Thinking about the savanna-like wasteland, Makoto makes a bitter smile.
But Hibiki opened her eyes wide at the words he said before that.
“What’s that about being prepared?” (Hibiki)
Her expression had returned to normal, but her voice was slightly shaky.
(What’s this…? There’s an incredible chill running through my back…) (Hibiki)
“If you are armed and fighting in the battlefield, that means they are prepared to take lives away and prepared for their lives to be taken, right? Moreover, even if it isn’t a battlefield, if they have experience in killing someone, they shouldn’t complain about being killed themselves. That’s the same for me and Senpai, and there’s no way in telling where hatred will be born. I know that my brain wouldn’t be able to estimate it anyways, so I have given up on that.” (Makoto)
“…T-Then, the people that have resolved themselves to fight and have ended up killing someone, is Makoto-kun saying that you…wouldn’t hesitate in killing someone like that?” (Hibiki)
“That’s only if it’s necessary. People don’t kill just because they want to, you know?” (Makoto)
“..If that were the case, that person would end up as a simple murderer that repeatedly kills just for pleasure after all.” (Hibiki)
(Makoto-kun…he is really answering indifferently as if it’s nothing. It is a calm attitude that’s unthinkable for it to be acting. This is bad…bad, bad, bad! He is within the people I think is dangerous, no, an existence even more dangerous than that. I don’t know why, but he still maintains his Japanese feel subconsciously, so there’s probably still room to deal with him. For this boy…just how light does he view a life?) (Hibiki)
“Something like a serial killer, that’s no joke.” (Makoto)
“Lives are important, right? Because it is something that people only have once, it is an important and irreplaceable thing.” (Hibiki)
“Yeah, everyone has only one in their possession. They only have one, and yet, why are there people that take it away or utilize it to fatten themselves? The people that become soldiers probably do it for things like protecting the things that are important for them, but even so, they live every single moment of their lives in full.” (Makoto)
The sight of a serene and beautiful lake steadily began showing its appearance from within the gaps of the trees, and it would not be wrong to call it a picturesque scenery.
But within the head of Hibiki, she didn’t have any surplus to enjoy that.
Inside, she was wondering what she should do with Makoto, and wondering if he is a good person to talk about the topic she had planned.
Those were the things that were spiralling in her head.
Makoto noticed that the lake was beginning to show itself, and pointed at it as he tells Hibiki. Her response showed no spirit compared to the ones until now.
(Something that everyone naturally has, using it to fatten themselves? It is as if he is saying ‘you have only one, so you have to use it with care’, but it feels like he weighs it as much as a casino coin. How light. He views lives way too lightly. Even if Makoto-kun were to take away the lives of thousands or millions, if that’s a battlefield, he would think that the other party has given consent for their death. No, not only that. If my worst guess is right, this boy that’s talking to me right now has already committed mass murder. There’s the possibility that he has said this with this kind of mindset.
I don’t know why there’s so much difference in battle power between him and me, but right now, what’s more important is to place some sort of brake in him or it will be way too dangerous. What to do… What should I do? As I thought, the schedule of us coming here was way too soon. If I had heard what Chiya-chan saw of him, I might have been able to prepare a more detailed counter-plan. But in that case, Mio-san and Lime would move in the shadows, and he would have been able to come here alone. There’s a high chance that this opportunity of being alone with him would have been gone completely.
!!
Right, the reason why Mio-san was strangely cooperative was because…she wanted me to notice his power and how dangerous he is. And to make me understand what would happen if we were to get in the way of Makoto-kun and Kuzunoha Company, no matter if it’s a major power.
In basis, they would be able to utilize that long ranged attack to destroy towns one after the other, and supported with that supply line, they would crush the army with the monsters that are a match of thousands. With only the war potential that I have a grasp on, they are probably able to bring down even Limia. What an ambush I got…) (Hibiki)
“Looking at it, I can expect much of Meiris Lake. When the errand is over, can I get some time even if it’s only for a bit? I want to take my time checking it out.” (Makoto)
“…Yeah.” (Hibiki)
“Now that I think about it, that Lorel priestess, Chiya-san, was it? That girl, is she alright? I heard that she is down from a shock, and I have been bothered by it.” (Makoto)
“…Is that….because she looked at you and fell?” (Hibiki)
“Uh, as I thought, it was really because of that? What was the reason for it? Honestly, I couldn’t tell why.” (Makoto)
“That was…my doing. Didn’t you get a report from Lime about the power of the priestess? You seemed to know about the matter with the purple cloud after all.” (Hibiki)
“The power of the priestess?” (Makoto)
Makoto tilts his head at the words of Hibiki.
About the eyes of the priestess, Lime had reported it to Tomoe, and Tomoe thought of several countermeasures with Shiki and Mio.
Just that it didn’t take actual shape, and in the end, Mio didn’t use any countermeasure at all when she faced the priestess.
Makoto doesn’t know anything about that.
Makoto did tell his followers to only report him things that are necessary, but they didn’t tell him all the information.
Because even if he were to be told that, he wouldn’t be able to process everything.
Just by listening and reading the reports, the day already passes.
Regarding the priestess’ eyes, they planned on telling him before going to Limia, but in the end, it slipped by.
They concluded that they would be leaving it to the countermeasure of the super confident Mio.
“Chiya-chan is able to look at that person’s essence, or more like, real nature. In other words, she obtained a demonic eye that can see through the self that the person himself doesn’t notice.” (Hibiki)
“Is it like the mind’s eye?” (Makoto)
“Probably. And in truth, only she can use it, and she has finally grown capable of utilizing it on her own will, that’s why we returned to Limia. The other day, I told her to look at Mio and Makoto-kun with that eye of hers.” (Hibiki)
“…That means, she saw something in Mio and got a shock, and when she saw something in me, she collapsed?” (Makoto)
“That would be the case. I still don’t know what she saw. I have done something bad to Chiya.” (Hibiki)
(Even the chills and bad feeling I am getting are intense, so the thing that Chiya-chan saw might have been outrageous. But when she saw me, it seems like she saw my self shining. This ominousness I am feeling from Makoto-kun, just how was it reflected to Chiya-chan? That girl has amassed a good amount of experience, and she wouldn’t fall unconscious for most of anything.) (Hibiki)
“That’s information that makes me pretty depressed.” (Makoto)
(Mind’s eye huh. I can’t say that it would bring real harm to me, so maybe that’s why Tomoe and the others didn’t notify me of it? And in truth, it was the other side that collapsed anyways.) (Makoto)
Without being agitated that much about not being told of the priestess’ eyes, Makoto just accepts it.
‘Things like true character and essence, wouldn’t getting those checked actually be something to be grateful about?’, is what he was thinking at most.
“When she wakes up, I will ask her about the image she saw of you, so if you want to know, I will tell you. You can probably learn something of yourself that you didn’t know of, you know?” (Hibiki)
“Is it okay to hear it? I actually have interest in it.” (Makoto)
“It will depend on Chiya to see if you will be allowed to be present at that moment though. It would be troublesome if she were to collapse again after all.” (Hibiki)
(Hiding or deceiving would be a bad move. It is not completely impossible, but he is not someone that I can have as my enemy. Even so, I can’t help being scared of having the current Makoto-kun as an ally. The best plan would be isolation. To create an environment that no one would be able to use him…) (Hibiki)
“…She went ‘kyaaa’ after all.” (Makoto)
“In my eyes, you look like a normal young man though. Well, I do sympathize since that appearance is probably giving you a hard time in this word.” (Hibiki)
(First, the most indispensable thing is to have him at arm’s reach, in a distance that the eye can catch. And then, I have to learn of what he treasures, what he wants to protect; I have to grasp that inclination of his. The war with the demon race is still in progress, and even if it reaches the point of post-war period, it is easy to see that the Empire’s Tomoki is going to go wild. Right now we have our hands full with the reconstruction of Limia’s capital, and cleaning the festers created, and yet, an unbelievable thing has come in front of me. He is practically a world destroying bomb like the ones that appear in low-budget SF movies. To overcome all this, I have to move now. Seriously, this world is really worth being in. Could it be, that Goddess is the God of trials or something?) (Hibiki)
“Hard time…I really did have a lot of those.” (Makoto)
“About that, I would like to take some time and listen to it after we finish your errand here.” (Hibiki)
At the field of vision that was cleared in a moment, the big lake that was visible reflected the sunlight, and it was simply beautiful.
In the path that Hibiki and Makoto passed through, there were a lot of corpses, but a spectacle that seemed like it was washing away that brutal reality was spread before their vision.
As Hibiki spoke with Makoto, her impression and evaluation of him had changed drastically.
When she arrived at the lake, what she was thinking was about the time when priestess Chiya would be waking up, a thinking that was really set foot into reality.
◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆
On the other hand, at that time, the priestess had woken up.
Still in her lying position, she only had her eyes opened without saying anything.
She was silently breathing.
(Mio-san is the spider. The Black Calamity Spider. I can’t believe it, but it is the truth. That person looked like the same giant black spider of that time. No, it wasn’t the same. There were two things that were different. The first thing were those eyes, in the past I could only see fiery instinct burning from those eyes, and yet, now they were incredibly calm and quiet. The other one was…a choker.) (Chiya)
Chiya was thinking.
About what she saw from the Kuzunoha Company when they arrived at Limia.
Lime who had come out first, was the same as before.
In a spectacle that looked like a diorama, there’s a large tree.
Looking at it calms her. In the images Chiya has seen, it is still top class.
The next one that appeared was the black haired woman, Mio. The moment Chiyo saw her, she almost unintentionally screamed.
A giant black spider appearing from the carriage.
It didn’t rampage in any way, and was simply smiling at Chiya who was looking at her.
Chiya placed a hand on her mouth, and was somehow able to hold down her voice, trying her best to be as calm as possible.
And then, she noticed.
Those eyes that were different from before, eyes that one could feel intelligence in, and that choker.
That choker had a chain attached to it.
At times, the spider showed loving gestures as she touched the choker and chain.
It didn’t seem to hate it.
And that chain stretched towards the inside of the carriage.
Kuzunoha Company’s representative, Raidou.
Finally, the concerned party had come out from the carriage.
At first, Chiya was looking at Raidou’s figure without using the mind’s eye.
As a hyuman, it was an ugly appearance that’s normally not seen, but that’s all there was to it.
She was unable to perceive his magic power, so compared to Lime and Mio, one could tell at a glance that he was weaker.
It is said that he is a merchant, and it doesn’t seem like a specially strange person, is how Chiya felt.
And then, she looked at Raidou with her mind’s eye.
(He had a chain in hand. The chain that extended from the spider.) (Chiya)
He had a hyuman shape in complete smooth white like that of an egg.
It had a short build, and it looked like the silhouette of Raidou himself.
Until now, Chiya has seen a number of people looking like this.
There have been people that looked like they were made out of mud, and there were also people with a metallic tinge as well.
It is not a common case, so Chiya guessed that maybe it is an image that people, who are bound by something, share.
And the only thing they have in common is that they are hyuman shaped and traitless.
There were some who had long limbs, but that depended on the person, and Chiya herself still doesn’t understand what it means.
This is something that’s brought by her lack of experience, and it can’t be helped.
In the image of Raidou, there was a big and incredibly beautiful bow in his left hand.
And in his right hand, there were three chains.
One of the chains extended towards the spider, and the remaining two stretched towards the distance.
(The meaning of those chains is probably that of control, or servitude. The bow is the weapon he uses. Just that, it was incredibly beautiful and it looked like he was holding it preciously, so it probably doesn’t amount to only that.) (Chiya)
At first, Chiya was able to observe the image of Raidou with composure.
Things like the chains, the bow, and that white; she was able to think of their meaning.
Until she noticed something, that is.
She remembers that it was somewhere around his neck.
Just trying to search for that memory was making her whole body shiver.
But Chiya closed her eyes once, and opened them as if she had prepared herself. The trembling in her body stopped, and she faced that memory.
She didn’t want to repeat her failure.
(Right, if I remember correctly, it was at his neck. At only that one part, the smooth surface was cracked, and the very center of it was dark. I thought it was a small stain, but it wasn’t. It was hollow.) (Chiya)
At that time, Chiya strained her eyes and tried to look inside that darkness.
And then, she saw it. <Staring back at her.>
(Something was there. Was there? Is there? I don’t know. But those eyes, they were only looking at me, and yet, my head was inundated by several images of death. It was as if I was being killed over and over. This is only my hunch but, I think that’s not a living thing. It is something that shouldn’t have eyes to begin with. And that something is looking at the outside from within him. With great interest, it looks around restlessly.) (Chiya)
Chiya who was facing the eyes that were peeking from the crack of the image, had fear grabbing a tight hold of her body, and just as her emotions told, she screamed.
Even if she screams, he won’t disappear, and it won’t solve anything.
She knew that, but even so, Chiya had no other choice but to scream.
When confusion and fear fill up one’s head, they turn that way, is what Chiya thought as she looks back at her disgraceful behavior.
In all of her life until now, she hasn’t experienced something like this.
Chiya didn’t have the confidence to stay calm if she were to meet Raidou and Mio again.
(A person that has something like that within himself, is able to control that black spider. Sairitz said that he is the same Wise like Onee-chan, so she wanted him to visit Lorel, but that’s not good, that person is a no. I don’t know what those other chains are connected to either.) (Chiya)
The demon race and the Demon Lord are enemies that Chiya can still understand.
The fight against the demi-humans and mamonos that oppose hyumans as well.
Currently, Chiya, for the first time in her life, couldn’t understand the foundation of something, and was being enveloped by a giant uneasiness she doesn’t know what to do about.
The reason was obviously Raidou.
(What is the Kuzunoha Company? It is definitely not a simple store…) (Chiya)
While knowing that she definitely had to report about what she saw, Chiya was still unable to leave her bed.
Just that, her impression of Raidou who she hasn’t exchanged a single word yet, was now the worst.
◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆
“Hm…Senpai, over here.” (Makoto)
“Makoto-kun, this is your first time coming here, right?” (Hibiki)
“Yes.” (Makoto)
“Why can you tell it is there? You don’t have a map, right?” (Hibiki)
“That’s because I was told the location of the person that will be guiding us in this lake.” (Makoto)
“Hmph~, I see.” (Hibiki)
Makoto and Hibiki walk through the lake shore.
Makoto was walking without any hesitation and Hibiki asked for the reason of it.
Half of Makoto’s answer was a lie.
It is true that he heard a guide would be waiting around the lake, but Makoto was actually using [Sakai] to pinpoint that person’s location.
Right now he is not using his Magic Armor, and was only using [Sakai] to investigate the surroundings.
(Thinking about the place we will be going now, I think it would be better not to use Materia Prima. But when you abbreviate Materia Prima it turns out as MP, that literally translates to magic points. And it can also be reversed to turn in PM. Maybe Root doesn’t have naming sense. Well, it is not something I can say though.) (Makoto)
Makoto was completely in sightseeing mode.
On the other hand, Hibiki was in quite a tense state.
There’s the fact that she is thinking of a countermeasure for Makoto, but if it were only that, it would still be within her permissible range.
That she is currently losing that surplus she normally leaves was because she was cautious of the encounter between a certain existence in the Meiris Lake with Makoto.
Hibiki has been notified that this place is the territory of the Superior Dragon with the alias ‘Waterfall’.
Hibiki who had previous experience in encountering Lancer, had more knowledge of a Superior Dragon than normal people.
She hasn’t met one directly, but it is a dragon that even has a regional religion.
She understood that it isn’t an existence that can be carelessly touched.
(I have never met the Waterfall dragon, but there’s no doubt that it is that dragon that is maintaining the control of Meiris Lake and its surroundings. The reason that faith is directed at it is more because of the gratitude for the blessings it has given than its power. The mamonos don’t come out from the forest around the lake and they don’t try to increase their turf. It’s no mistake that this unnatural situation is related to the dragon. And in truth, the water that this lake has, has benefited in the expansion of the greenery. Hunters have been coming and going to the outer circumference of this forest, and in the several rivers that this lake has created, towns have prospered. In other words, the Waterfall dragon is a dragon that can coexist with hyumans. In that case, it is better to avoid unnecessary dispute. I can’t have it die by the hands of Makoto-kun.) (Hibiki)
For Hibiki, Makoto had already become an existence that can defeat Superior Dragons.
No, he had already become an existence that surpasses the Waterfall dragon.
This is one of the many possibilities that Hibiki has created in order to grasp the background of Makoto.
Right now, Hibiki saw Makoto as a dangerous being that has a ‘Don’t touch, dangerous’ sign with skulls all over the place.
“Ah, there it is.” (Makoto)
“Eh?” (Hibiki)
Being told that, Hibiki looks at the place that Makoto pointed.
At the faraway waterside, there’s certainly something visible.
“It is that person, the guide. Just in case, I will ask if it’s okay for Senpai to accompany me further.” (Makoto)
“Hey, Makoto-kun. I am sorry for saying something that’s probably obvious but, there’s someone here in this lake that’s like a chief, and it is like a water god of sorts.” (Hibiki)
“A water god huh. Nice way of putting it. It is true that it might fit Orient dragons.” (Makoto)
“…You know that something is in Meiris Lake, right?” (Hibiki)
“That there’s something, you say… Well, yeah. I do know the basic knowledge of the place I am going. This place is the territory of the Waterfall Superior Dragon, right?” (Makoto)
“…That’s something that’s not made public though. It is only being passed as a legend in the villages close to here and the towns that are at the river basins.” (Hibiki)
Hibiki herself had heard this directly from the royal family, so learning that it was being passed down as a legend was something that happened after.
Just that, the way Makoto spoke so confidently that there’s a Superior Dragon called Waterfall in this Meiris Lake was bothering her.
“I heard that from the person that requested this delivery.” (Makoto)
“By the way, can you tell me of that requester? I am a Japanese person and a hero, but it is also true that I am associated with Limia Kingdom. I can’t have you making problems with a Superior Dragon.” (Hibiki)
“…About the requester, please let me ask the person himself in another day. It is a job, so I think it is best to not say anything I don’t know if it’s okay to say. But it isn’t a business that will cause any problems with the Waterfall dragon, so it is safe.” (Makoto)
“Understood. I will trust Makoto-kun.” (Hibiki)
(It seems like he at least has a sense of responsibility in the job he has accepted. Just that, uhm, the one that Makoto-kun pointed out as someone…isn’t it a mamono? In that case, it should be appropriate to think that it is not a request from the Adventurer Guild. Just what is he giving to who?) (Hibiki)
As she guessed, in the place that the two have arrived at, there wasn’t a hyuman, but a mamono.
Hibiki could feel that it was a mamono that was within the strong kinds, and that mamono was approaching them without showing any kind of hostility as it made contact with them.
For a hero that has only been fighting the mamonos, this was a bothering reaction.
“Greetings. You have received word of me, right? I am the one that came with the delivery, name’s Raidou.” (Makoto)
The mamono nods.
(Words are working? Is that an ability of Makoto-kun?) (Hibiki)
In Hibiki’s ears, Makoto’s words were heard as japanese.
But those are not words that work on mamonos.
And yet, it seemed like Makoto’s words got through the mamono, and Hibiki guessed that maybe Makoto used some sort of ability.
“Yes, that’s right. I have it here. Also, if it’s okay, the Limia Kingdom’s hero Hibiki-san seems to want to go as well. Is that okay?” (Makoto)
“…”
(He is having a conversation, right? In my eyes, it only looks like a lump of gel, the size of a hyuman, trembling. Thought transmission? But Makoto-kun is speaking normally.) (Hibiki)
“Thank you very much. Eh, here and now? Understood.” (Makoto)
In the time that Hibiki was thinking about a lot of things, the conversation seemed to have reached a conclusion. Makoto gave his thanks and then, it seems like it requested something, he took the bag at his shoulder and opened it.
What appeared was a big egg.
Hibiki thought it was a spherical object, but it was something that surpassed Hibiki’s expectations.
“…Makoto-kun, what’s that? I can tell it is an egg by looking at it though.” (Hibiki)
Hibiki felt that if she asked just like that, she would only get a response that it is an egg, so by taking into account the response he might give, she asks for a deeper explanation.
It was a pretty big egg.
At the very least, it is an egg Hibiki has never seen before.
“It is rare to see one of this, right? It is a dragon egg.” (Makoto)
“DRAGON?!” (Hibiki)
Her words unintentionally came out strong.
The Meiris Lake is the territory of a Superior Dragon.
And at a place like that, they are having a conversation about a dragon egg.
It could become a delicate problem in an instant if not handled properly. Hibiki got agitated.
“Yes, it is the egg of the Waterfall dragon. I am kind of helping it return home.” (Makoto)
“Water-fall?!” (Hibiki)
“Senpai? As expected, you got surprised?” (Makoto)
Hibiki lets out incomprehensible words without caring about the eyes of others, something unusual from her.
Makoto talks with fun as if he had heard a joke.
For Hibiki, it was not the time to be surprised.
If Hibiki was really trying to let loose or make a joke to entertain, she probably would be showing more composure than this.
“Why do you have something like that when you were supposed to be in Rotsgard?” (Hibiki)
Controlling her breathing that was about to turn disordered, Hibiki was somehow able to continue her words.
“That was uhm, there were a lot of things going on.” (Makoto)
“…You said that this is the egg of Waterfall. In that case, it will become the child of Waterfall, right? Could it be, there was an idiot who would steal the egg of a Superior Dragon?!” (Hibiki)
“Eh, ah. When I said it was the egg of Waterfall, I didn’t mean it in that way. This is Waterfall itself. A lot happened a time ago you see.” (Makoto)
“Waterfall itself?! Hey now, Makoto-kun, this isn’t a matter that can be wrapped up by just saying ‘a lot happened’, you know? Waterfall is the dragon that lives in the territory of Limia. I am not totally unrelated to this.” (Hibiki)
“Well, that is…if I don’t ask the people here, I can’t say much either. Eh? Wait?” (Makoto)
Hibiki seeks an explanation.
Makoto was wondering how he would tell her, and looked at the direction of the gel.
In that place, there was the appearance of the gel that had changed a part of itself into a hammer.
It seems to be an action that it was doing after telling Makoto, but it seems like Makoto himself couldn’t understand what it was doing.
And then, the gel swung down that hammer.
The hammer arm of the gel hits the egg as if it was natural.
And obviously, a big crack appeared on the egg.
Actually, it should be surprising that it wasn’t smashed completely.
“Safe. Or more like, it is unexpectedly tough.”
“Wait—”
Makoto and Hibiki were looking at it dumbfounded.
The gel didn’t do more than that, and was standing before the egg.
A silence ruled the space, and within that silence, the sound of something hitting could be heard.
Hibiki noticed that the sound came from inside the egg.
“This is a joke, right? Are you telling me that it will be born here and now?” (Hibiki)
“Ah, so that just now was to assist on the hatching huh.” (Makoto)
Because of the situation, the composure of Makoto and Hibiki did a complete reversal.
They watched attentively just like that.
Finally, with the crack as the center, the thick shell was lifted up.
As it was lifted up, the head peeks out like a chick.
The head of the dragon comes out from the egg.
( Just what in the world happened for a Superior Dragon to suddenly hatch. Makoto-kun doesn’t seem to be that agitated. Are you telling me that this unprecedented event is a normal occurrence in his everyday life?) (Hibiki)
(…It is a western style one huh. It is a dragon that has taken a lake as its territory, and is specialized in the water element that is the best at healing, so I was expecting a snake-shaped one though. Is Tomoe the only one that was a snake-shaped dragon? Uwa, even though it hatched just now, the way it is breaking the shell is not cute at all.) (Makoto)
Makoto who was expecting a snake-shaped dragon, saw the head and claws of the dragon, and sees that its silhouette was similar to how the western dragons are depicted, and made a tensionless impression.
The gestures of shaking its head and body to shake the shell off was something that he was expecting, but even though Waterfall was the size of an arm, it was using its claws to break the shell in an incredibly composed manner and coming out from it.
The light in its eyes was not that of innocence or purity, but the eyes that would make one thing are those of an adult.
After Waterfall calmly left from its shell, it begins drawing something in the air with its small legs. In just a few moments after hatching, it was able to exercise magic.
The surrounding egg shells quickly froze, turned into dust, and disappeared.
(So it even does the cleaning itself.) (Makoto)
Makoto was thinking that this dragon kid was seriously not cute.
Waterfall was moving its head to the sides several times as if confirming its state, and it first looks at the mamono.
“You have protected this place well in my absence. It seems like I will have to increase the number of you guys in the future.”
From the mouth of the dragon, fluent common language came out.
(It is even able to talk as soon as it was born. Couldn’t it have just come back here on its own? I didn’t hear anything about them being like this the very moment they are born. That damn Root… Gel-san is happy here, so well, that’s fine.) (Makoto)
Leaving aside the discontent of Makoto, the Gel was trembling more than any moment before, and inside the transparent body of it that doesn’t have that much temperature, a number of bubbles were appearing.
And then, Waterfall faces Makoto and Hibiki.
Makoto who has a good amount of Superior Dragon acquaintances like Root and Tomoe, was the same as always; on the other hand, Hibiki’s body was stiff.
For Hibiki, this is the first time that she has properly met with a Superior Dragon.
At that time with Lancer, it was a fight, and the one who did most of the fighting was actually Shiki.
It could be said that this is the first time that Hibiki can talk to a Superior Dragon.
“…Raidou, I am impressed that you accepted the request of that free-spirited and troublesome person. I give you my gratitude for returning me to Meiris Lake.” (Waterfall)
“No problem.” (Makoto)
“I want to have a good talk with you later so, can I have your accompany for a little bit longer?” (Waterfall)
“As long as I am able to return by today, there’s no problem. Right, Senpai?” (Makoto)
“Ah, yeah, it is okay, Waterfall…-sama.” (Hibiki)
“Fufufu, I don’t mind you not using -sama, you know? Limia’s hero, Hibiki. Leaving aside if it was actually necessary, I give you my gratitude for guarding Raidou all the way here. I also give my gratitude to the Limia royalty that has been abiding to the contract until now. As a show of my gratitude, I will invite you to my dwelling along with Raidou. It’s been awhile since I have invited people though.” (Waterfall)
“Thank you very much.” (Hibiki)
(What a wise dragon it is. It seems like there’s complicated circumstances, but I have nothing to lose in being able to hear the conversation if only for a bit. Also…it seems like Waterfall thinks something of Makoto-kun too. I stuttered though.) (Hibiki)
“Well then, I am counting on you. Raidou, Hibiki, please just keep a tranquil heart as you are.” (Waterfall)
Waterfall sends a gaze to the Gel.
As if answering that gaze, the Gel inflates its body largely, and expands itself.
Its body opens up as if it were opening its mouth, and after wrapping up Waterfall, Makoto and Hibiki, it dives into the lake just like that.
“In the space between the lake and land, there’s an area where I live in. We will be arriving soon, so please enjoy the scenery underwater as we wait.” (Waterfall)
The body of the Gel was muddy, but it turned transparent and was made possible to look outside.
A 360° scenery that felt like one of those aquariums, had spread in their view.
(Not the space between the land and sea, but the space between land and lake, huh. Aah, it is great that I had my Magic Armor off. I would have troubled Gel-san when it was wrapping us after all.) (Makoto)
(Calmly, and maintaining one’s spirit constantly cold, you look at the situation. No matter how harsh it is, if you don’t have this margin in mind as you act, you won’t be able to reach the best result. Having a margin is not leeway, but an insurance line. Don’t get impatient. Even if this can affect the current war and what happens after. Even if I am unable to obtain the best result, I won’t give up on obtaining the better result. That’s my current duty.) (Hibiki)
The day in Meiris Lake continues.
◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆
The capital Asuta.
Its reconstruction was not looking good.
The royal family’s riches, the noble’s riches, the hard work of the knights and the residents.
Even when they are using their investments in an adequate manner, they are being hindered by the season, and it wasn’t proceeding as they thought.
If the capital had been destroyed to the point of becoming an empty lot, it would have probably made the reconstruction faster.
However, there’s a great number of rubble and gouged paths, and to begin the actual reconstruction, they have to deal with that first.
Moreover, in this world, there’s the existence of mamonos and it is war time as well, so they had to work in the outer walls first.
Compared to normal towns, it is a pretty fast pace, but in this case with the capital, there was a town that was doing a miracle-like reconstruction at that same period.
Academy Town, Rotsgard.
The scale of Rotsgard Academy and the capital are around the same.
The two were similar in the part that they possessed satellite towns.
But the reconstruction speed of Rotsgard after being destroyed was absurd.
Even though the disaster occurred at the same time, the information of Rotsgard had reached the ears of Asuta as well, and because of their absurd speed in it, the residents and nobles that live in the capital were suspecting that maybe there’s some sort of problem in the reconstruction at the capital’s side.
In the end, the Limia royal family requested a reconstruction cooperation of Rotsgard.
It is well known that the reconstruction of Rotsgard has a high number of students and magicians working in it, and Hibiki who considered that they should take the same method, stood as a messenger and requested for help.
After less than a few months, the plans will probably differ, but the many students and magicians will probably participate in the reconstruction of the capital.
The fact that they have requested for cooperation was at the same time proof that Rotsgard didn’t need that many magicians anymore, and was also showing that it is already returning to its former shape.
In just a few months, a prominent town had climbed up from a disaster, and recovering.
There’s no doubt that the revival of Rotsgard will be spoken of for a long time to come.
“They are taking their sweet time here.”
“Rotsgard is just way too fast. It is also because our place is helping out, but that place is a treasure trove of magicians. I think it was a miracle result that was brought out by the good combination of people commanding and people executing.”
“Also, they have the chance to remake it, so they should have made the outer walls at a more distant location, and increase the scale of the inside. Are there no people here that can use their head?”
“…Nee-san, an outer wall is the lifeline of a town. Just rebuilding it is already a high priority task. It seems like this time the foundation was fortunately okay, so it was judged that it would be plenty enough to rebuild as it is.” (Lime)
“…Ah, so that’s why they didn’t move it one inch huh. Even though they should know that they are in a location where they will constantly face the meddling of demons.” (Mio)
“It seems like Hibiki and a number of nobles were contemplating on moving it, but in this situation, it is impossible. If they were to force it, by the time they finish the new capital, who knows how many of the inhabitants would be left.” (Lime)
Being guided through Asuta and seeing the slow reconstruction state, Mio gave an honest advice.
Lime gave a follow-up by saying that in a realistic point of view, Asuta is actually doing a good job, but Mio’s expression didn’t seem to show a single shred of consenting to that.
He was also being careful about the second prince who is silently guiding them to the next location.
Because the words of Mio were definitely heard by him.
No matter if they were told there’s no need to worry about formalities, Lime is not the type who would take those words for granted.
While feeling chills that maybe Mio was trying to buy a fight with Joshua, Lime was moving about in confusion between those two.
“Mio-dono and Lime-dono seem to have seen the miracle town Rotsgard, so I think it is a plausible opinion. The current situation of the capital is a problem that is hurting our heads, and it is the truth that we are hurrying because of our feelings that we should finish it as fast as possible. The proposal of Hibiki about moving  the capital was something that has to be considered, but in the current state, regaining the functions of the capital and the towns, as well as the livelihood of the people was of higher priority, so at this time, we couldn’t do it.” (Joshua)
“How leisure. I wonder if you will be able to finish while it is still winter.” (Mio)
Normally, a city wouldn’t be able to recover so fast.
It is something that has to be planned for at least a few years.
“We have to at least arrange the looks, no matter what. Ah, you two, it is here. From here, we can climb up on top of the outer walls. I think you will be able to see a different form of the capital from here compared to the castle.” (Joshua)
Just as Joshua said, a part of the outer walls had something similar to a cabin constructed, and from there, a long flight of stairs stretched up.
The three went to the top of the outer wall, and have an unobstructed view of the capital’s interior and outside.
“This is… The talk was that people will be coming from Rotsgard, but even so, looking like this, I think it will be taking around half a year before it takes proper form.” (Lime)
“As expected of Lime-dono, a splendid diagnosis. The result of our discussion about the assistance of Rotsgard, was that it would take around that time. Hibiki said that there’s still room to make it faster though.” (Joshua)
“By that time, the demon race will be attacking already-desu wa. The logic that the enemy won’t attack because you are in the middle of recovering is not possible.” (Mio)
(Mio-neesan. We should stop this topic soon. This is a problem of Limia, and help from Rotsgard will be coming. Even if we stick our head into this matter, well, I don’t think it will show a good result. Boss didn’t tell us anything either so…) (Lime)
(…Lime, are you looking to be peeled too?) (Mio)
(Peeling?!) (Lime)
(In the first place, just how much do you think Waka-sama has helped in that Rotsgard reconstruction? And in truth, what’s most important is to have them understand that very point. Be silent.) (Mio)
(No well, uhm…) (Lime)
(Be silent, okay? I will properly talk to Waka-sama later. It’s okay to just match what I say.) (Mio)
(…Understood-ssu.) (Lime)
Unable to stay silent, Lime send a thought transmission to Mio.
But he ended up being shut out himself and curling his tail.
In the first place, the standing and power of Lime and Mio are way too different.
Travelling together with Mio was impossible for Lime.
It could be said that the most he could do was change the direction slightly.
“Well then, does the Kuzunoha Company have a good idea?” (Joshua)
Joshua asks for a suggestion from Mio.
Those words were a given.
“Of course. If you want to, I can show you a bit of it right now.” (Mio)
With a smile, she answers prince Joshua as if nothing.
Seeing this, Lime had his usual expression, but internally, he was rolling around in suffering.
(Uaaah! It is happening again! It is that same smile! Boss, please return quick! This is impossible, with only me, this is definitely impossible-ssu!!) (Lime)
Lime didn’t know what she intended to do.
Just that…he was sure that she was going to do something.
It hurt.
Lime’s stomach was hurting.
“Go ahead please.” (Joshua)
With slightly sharp eyes, Joshua said these short words.
“Okay. Ah right, prince Joshua, that section there has a lot of rubble, right? It looks like you haven’t worked on that part yet.” (Mio)
“We haven’t been able to work on that section yet. The part that can be seen at the other side as well, and the part at the left side too. We haven’t been able to clear away the rubble yet.” (Joshua)
“Are there people there?” (Mio)
“The entrance is currently prohibited.” (Joshua)
“Then, is it okay to use magic?” (Mio)
“…Go ahead.” (Joshua)
“Fufufu~.” (Mio)
Mio didn’t say anything.
She took out her folding fan from her bosom, and pointed it towards the place that is still filled in rubble.
Prince Joshua looked carefully at Mio’s appearance and the rubble alternately.
Lime was already looking at some place faraway from the rubble and letting out a dry laugh.
“I will be doing it-desu wa.” (Mio)
“?!!”
The short words of Mio.
At the place where the folding fan was pointing, in an instant, a dark swirl appeared at the ground and everything was gone.
Being swallowed by the dark swirl, the earth and sand, along with the rubble, had disappeared completely.
Prince Joshua places his right hand at his mouth.
One could easily tell that he was showing surprise.
(She did it. She ended up doing it, Boss… Now, they probably know that the Rotsgard reconstruction speed had something to do with us as well. It is true that it is the place that Boss is living in, and we haven’t done much in keeping it a secret, but…I thought that it would have been better to keep it hidden-ssu. Mio-neesan is planning to destroy it, a lot of things.) (Lime)
Lime felt that something else was coming out aside from his long sigh, and the cries of his heart resounded pitifully.
“Also, you said that side over there and the left side was the same, right? Then…” (Mio)
Mio continued onto the other two parts, and erases the rubble.
Even though there were priorities to take care of first, the terrible spectacle that had been left like that for several months, had disappeared in an instant.
“Just what kind of magic can do something like this? Was there a spell like that in the dark element? Also, what’s swallowed there…where does it go?” (Joshua)
While looking at the place that had become a completely empty plot of land, Joshua mutters to no one in particular.
“I will be taking it out after this-desu wa. It is okay to let it out anywhere outside the outer walls, right?” (Mio)
Mio answers the mutters of Joshua that were not directed at anyone.
“Ah, yeah…I want you to avoid doing that where the camps are though.” (Joshua)
Joshua who had lost his courteous way of speaking towards the Kuzunoha Company, had answered Mio as if she were the supervisor of a construction work.
Just that, from the relationship between Joshua and Mio, this way of speaking is no problem at all.
Actually, it could be said that until now, he had been way too courteous.
“So you don’t mind. Then, at that part-desu wa ne.” (Mio)
Mio didn’t show much interest in the change of the prince, and continued speaking.
There’s also the point that she didn’t care about the attitude of the prince as she acted though.
Pointing the folding fan to the outsides of the capital, a dark swirl was created.
In a distant place, rubble, earth, and sand came out one after the other from the dark swirl and as it fell, it made the ground tremble and did a dull sound. It even reached the ears of the three who were at the outer walls.
“What a powerful magic.” (Joshua)
“Powerful? Something of this level, I can do it hundreds of times-desu wa. The rubble and scraps of wood in this place, I would be able to throw it outside in one day if I wanted to. Lime, with this, how much did it shorten the reconstruction time?” (Mio)
“…Right, let’s see-ssu. It probably reduced 2 months of work-ssu.” (Lime)
“Ara ara, how simple.” (Mio)
“Mio-dono, then can you please lend us that power of yours? What you are trying to say is that you will be helping us in the reconstruction of this capital?” (Joshua)
“I will confirm with Waka-sama once he returns, but if it’s just for one day, there’s no problem-desu wa. Waka-sama is not here and I don’t have anything to do anyways.” (Mio)
“‘Just for this one day’, what great words! Of course, I will be giving a proper compensation. I will bring the one in charge right this instant, so please, do lend us your strength!” (Joshua)
“I don’t care about the one in charge, but prince, the condition is that you will be there as well. You will be witnessing what the Kuzunoha Company’s Mio will be doing.” (Mio)
“If my presence is enough, I will engrave it in my eyes.” (Joshua)
The sun was still high up.
It seems like the day of Mio and Lime who were suddenly assisting in the reconstruction work, was still long to be over.

The chapter was pretty long, so I won’t be able to make it for tomorrow.
Just consider this chapter as two. Teehee 😛 *sparkle*

      1. well…. i dont know how to differentiate the Nepu’s beside i already in denial mode because of that pedo nepu giving me too much of works that i just simply overlook him ‘ – ‘ )

      1. i think its 208 to be the part 2, and oh boy what that Chiya see……
a silhoutte of WHITE MAN WITH A CRACK ON HIS NECK WITH SOMETHING DWELLING INSIDE OF IT AND IT GAZE BACK…… what kind of OLD ONE is parasiting Makoto body !?

      2. @Dicky Satria
Having not read past what’s been translating, this is my theory:
The darkness (and eyes in the darkness) are Asora and the people living in it.
Kind of makes sense since Asora seems to be some kind of pocket-dimension tied directly to Makoto, and all of its residents are monsters at the top end of the power scale (could explain the ‘feelings of death’ coming from their eyes).
Obviously I might be totally wrong, but for my few seconds of thinking it could fit.

        1. That’s indeed an interesting way to look at it, but there’s just one problem. Their souls aren’t connected in any way, and even the 3 who have a soul pact with Makoto(Tomoe, Mio, Shiki) are not shown in his soul. What is shown of them is only the chains, which means only Makoto’s part of the pact. Proof of that being what she only sees the chain in his hand connecting Mio because Mio is right there beside him and also looked at with the Mind’s Eye at the same time. As for Tomoe and Shiki, Chiya only sees the chains going to the horizon(as in they go in a direction and cannot be seen further), and this would be due to them not being present, and thus not possible to see from looking at Makoto’s soul. It is thus impossible for the inhabitants of Asora to be seen in Makoto’s soul since that would mean that their are more closely connected to his soul than even his 3 soul pact followers.

      3. This is 207 completed. You can see that this chapter easily as long as 2 chapters combined.
208 is also as long, as part 2. If I’m not mistaken this two chapters is the longest for this arc.
Hey, the title is ‘a long long day’ so the content should be long 😀

    1. What a loooong chapter! I am very grateful even it counted as 2 chapter. Hibiki and Chiya impression of Makoto is changing. Chiya not even spoken with Makoto before. Haha. Makoto’s common sense is too different with Hibiki… I wonder what they will talk about with err… something dragon…. I don’t remember.. Looking forward to next chapter! 😆

HE KNOWS, THIS MOTHERFUCKERS KNOWS ALL ALONG!
And I honestly thought he just clueless all this time, dudes you better checking adventures guild power rank once again, you have power to flatten any continent with a whim. How can you underrated yourself so badly…
Anyway we have more pressing matters now.
All common sense, assemble!, prepare to sacrifice 99% of our population.
Madam Mio is going rogue, she will destroy every one of us at this rate, our only hope for survival is to call Makoto ASAP.
We got no time to waste, if we still want to exist in this novel we need to alter the course of history, sacrifice to anything and everything, we must let this 1% common sense to survive.

      1. >better checking adventures guild power rank once again
I suggest you re-read earlier chapters, Root explained it a while back. He’ll always be lowest level, the way it’s designed to gauge strength is flawed and won’t work for him (May even have been intentionally designed like that by Root).

      2. What I mean by that is to check Hibiki level and high end level party that exists, then he need to compare them to his own army, I bet even excluding Mio and Tomoe only hero party can handle blue lizardkin and don’t even talking about new battle potential like battle maniac sailor soldier (sorry already forgot her name) and neptune kin.
Currently Makoto holds the most elite groups that capable teleporting via Asora dokodemodoa. How come he not realize this simple fact….

      3. Dokodemodoa? Wow that was nostalgic. The so called go *freaking* any time and anywhere door of some futuristic outdated paradox felinoid transient machine huh?

      1. There is a Lovecraftian god that was Described as a mass of darkness that swallows stars, that could be it, or you know his hatred towards the Bug, or it could even be some being sealed inside him.

    1. Could be that she saw him as an egg, and the gift from the Gods, is what is starting to peak out from the crack, or she got a look at that last possible Makoto timeline….

      1. It’s possible that it’s Makoto hidden potensial.
He is pure white “good” boy.
… Until you break him, do that and prepare yourself to fight cthulhu he seal deep inside.

      2. Or maybe some deity was spying on him. Makoto already grabbed the interest of Tsukuyomi and Susanoo, how much longer will it take before the rest of the family starts visiting? Especially since now that we know Tsukuyomi is rooming with his mother for his recuperation. Considering the vision Chiyo saw, it is not that strange to think that Izanami, a Goddess of the Underworld, is keeping an eye on the one that reduced her son to such a state.

    2. I have a feeling that thing in his neck is his alter ego. By that alter ego, i mean the machine like state he gets into when he fights. Io said it felt like there where multiple people inside that power ranger suit when he fought Makoto in Limia.

      1. Does that mean if she sees Makoto fight the white and black parts will switch places? Will we see an eldritch monster restrained only by a small collar of reason and emotion?

      2. It’s also one of the possible answer to that dark thing, Makoto sometimes become cold and machine like, even himself are not in control when that happens, it could the that darkmatters doing.

  1. Hibiki can’t make a plan for makatos nature, also that thing the preistess saw might be his magic or the way he views the world, also I find it cute how even when the preistess saw mios nature as a spider with a chocker and chain, her spider nature was carresing the chocker affectionately. Showing how much she loves makato

    1. I feel like in the same situation, Tomoe’s nature is probably playing Cat’s Cradle with her chain, and Shiki’s is studying it like a rare lab specimen.

      1. They did right ? They become the “shadow” of shiro. Replacing the earth dragon at the first level, I think at that point they already become different part and not connected to shiro at all.

  2. What a chapter! It took me 40 minutes just to finish this chapter! Good Job Reigo-dono, with your sacrifice many readers would be appeased. . . . for now.

  3. Yes more. More glory for the kuzunoha company. And makoto really needs to stop being so humble. He is beginning to feel like he is humble to a fault now.

    1. from how I read it Makoto acts humble for the same reason hard-core gamers do challenge speedruns (i.e. darksouls without ever leveling up or pacifist skyrim) because otherwise life gets boring. if Makoto went off and actually revealed his power and confronted the goddess then everyone would either worship him with cult-like fanaticism, flee from him in terror, or scream and pass out. perhaps mio and ema would survive with their personalities intact, but such a deviation in character feels like it would break the rest of his followers.

      1. I think Makoto’s humility is more about manners.
He has a role in society, self imposed sure, but a role none the less, and he acts within that role.
And he will accept arrogance and assholery from people, as long as they also act within their roles in the society, but gods (can’t) help you if you break those social rules or try to twist them to your benefit (see Tomoki getting his ass kicked).
I think it’s atleast in part a survival mechanism, he retreats into comfortable roles, and then gets panicked when people act outside them, or angry if people try to abuse them.

  4. The number one would be his attachment to his original world but…I feel like he is different in that aspect from us.) (Hibiki)
well Hibiki… for that thing you’re absolutely WRONG because the goddamn BUG kick makoto out just after seeing his ‘UGLY’ face ‘ – ‘ )

      1. I really love how Hibiki manages to get things so wrong, without actually being stupid in this chapter.
She simply has few false (but understandable) starting premises, so her logic chain gets totally derailed from almost word go.

  5. Thanks for the chapter.
Spoiler-san said: “The internal conflict on Hibiki mind will begin on the next chapter. Is it really Raidou is the Destroyer of the World? 😡 “

      1. When i see doomsday merchant, i was thinking they are selling doomsday to the highest bidder… Here Doomsday for one race, guaranteed 100% annihilation, come buy and see….

    1. Ueehh?? I thought you were dead last chapter?
      You must be a clone…
With everything going in her mind, it’s safe to say that “senpai noticed him”.

  6. Sweet 😁
    Thx as always 😊
Hibiki starting to realize how powerful raidou is 😅
And Mio showing off just how powerful they are to the prince 😋

  7. So my guess as to what the priestess saw is something akin to the change on nature from sentient being to divine being, not the firat time i have read about this…
Just the outlook of a god on human life is like that, like bugs, amusing bugs but something that can be swiped when it becomes boring.
So the new nature created by hos blank state should be like a kid…looking at something walk with interest to then pull it’s legs and see if it does crawl.

    1. Maybe, I think it might be that Makoto is an egg, and the gifts he’s gotten from the Gods are about to hatch out, it may already be merging with his Sakai awareness….
Or maybe the glimpse into that last possible future, left a mark on him, that let Chiya see some of it…?

        1. I don’t think it can even be one of those things since Shiva already took away the visions and destroyed/erased the other timelines like those. Also, if it was the case, then it would mean that Chiya is at the level of a god for being able to see other realities.

    2. … Actually his true nature is just the white form
The thing on his neck is probably what makes him be able to speak any language, aka bug’s gift, which is a complete divine gift
The heroes gifts probably don’t look that way because they are incomplete, but Trashmoki’s eye might look ugly though

    3. I think the egg shows Makoto’s polite side and that it can break, and the thing that peeks from the crack is his dark side that would come when he breaks. The crack might have come from when the merchant guild master of Rostguard (forgot his name) badgered him about his business and when Rona kind of, sort of, lied to him. Those were the times when he seriously reflected on wether he should change himself, thus creating a crack and showing a glimpse of his dark side. Makotwo and Makothree could be versions of himself where the eggshell has been destroyed and his full murderous dark side is unleashed (drawing parallels on how Makotwo likes to play around on how to kill people i.e., microwave them, and how Chiya sees different ways to die when she looks into the crack).

  8. If my internet were working and I didn’t have to use my phone, I would be talking about how much of a headache reading the raw to this chapter was. Still, Reigo-senpai managed to properly translate it. So thanks for the chapter.
On another note, Spoiler-San is still away in another world right now. So no spoilers at the moment. Sorry.

      1. Something about being stuck in another world to deal with a demon lord? By the way, how’s that going for Spoiler-san, Mario-kun? Is the demon lord reasonable? Can he be negotiated with? If he can, Spoiler-san might want to consider striking a deal with him if he can get good perks and benefits.

    1. Same. Afterall, she usually understand and prepare for things before they occur. However, in this case, she’s been caught off guard, with no mental preparation what-so-ever, and she’s not used to that.^^

  9. Haha, Mio spreading word of Makoto’s real power. i wonder if this will decrease or increase his troubles :3
It will certainly give him a good idea of the real influence he has on the world as it is and get him thinking about what he wants to do.

  10. Thanks for the chapter.
You can understand why Mio acts the way she does. While the guy’s just tryna live a carefree, fulfilling life and handle his business, everyone is imposing their own conjectures on him and trying to manipulate his views on the world and the way he uses his power.

      1. Sleeping cat, yeah, tigers are cats, right?
        Let sleeping tigers lie.
Actually, let any tigers lie, they get really pissy if you call them out on their bullshit.

    1. Agreed, Mio is just angry that people constantly disrespect and attempt to manipulate him, and so she’s trying to give a (small) display of his ‘faction’s’ power so that they might think “Just maybe, it’s too dangerous to fuck with these guys and we should just leave them alone”.
She’s kind of doing that by manipulating his surroundings (while – arguably! – not manipulating Makoto himself).
She’s also worried that he is still too…naive, I suppose?…to handle the world and would prefer to ‘get it over with’ in terms of giving him a reality check. Likely with the logic of ‘better to break and recover from it while in (at least relative) safety than when it could be a crucial moment’.

  11. Seriously, Makoto’s role in the hyuman realm is just to sight see huh?
    lol, on superior dragons:
Hibiki: let’s proceed cautiously. it’s like a territory of a god you know..
Makoto: hmmm, I wonder if it’s an eastern or western type.

      1. Geash, he can wait in line for his groceries the same as everyone else.
After all Asora has the BEST groceries.
Powervice, he and makoto should get along
“You want to deal with that war?”
“Nah, lets drink tea untill someone we know needs saving”

      2. well…. since Asora have quite nice ingredient i think its a nice thing for Kuzunoha Company to export their goods and sell it to Echigoya Company, while both of the company bosses having a nice family dinner with all of the executive

      3. and i think Arisa and Mio going to be a good buddies in sharing things of how they will ‘conquer’ their ‘Master’.
Mio get some cooking recipe from Lulu. Tomoe, Liza, Karina, Pochi and Tama sparing to improve their combat ability. Shiki and that…. knowledge princess (i forgot her name) sharing their knowledge of magic and having discussion of lot kinds of magic.

      1. Maybe it’s worse than all of them. What if he’s the one who sleeps beyond this universe. I forget his name, but he’s the All-father of the malevolent old ones. The one who cannot be awakened as he sleeps to the cacophony of drums.

      2. Nodens, the hunter could also work. He is at least partially benevolent to humans bugs…
Maybe Ghorth, since all ancient monsters seem to awaken as Makoto draws near…
Nyarlathotep for his ability to bring a sense of creeping chaos into this world of the bugs tyrannical order… Also, Nyarla-chan is to cute not to mention
Cyäegha, the destroying eye, since all that enters his eye is up for destruction? he is even hiding a world that he holds waiting in the dark of his world…
X’chll’at-aa, the unborn god? he was an egg, with something peeking out…

      3. Sounds to me like Makoto is the product of some God of Mad Science’s attempt to produce a hybrid of a whole plethora eldritch beings.
….Yeah. I could see someone like Shiki doing that if he ascends to godhood a couple centuries after Makoto does. Actually, Tomoe seems to have an affinity for that sort of thing too.

          1. Not sure if that’s sarcasm, so I’ll just respond as if it isn’t.
Eldritch is a word used to describe abomination-type existences(in terms of having bizarre incomprehensible natures), usually absurdly powerful. The most famous example would be the Lovecraftian elder gods, and most famous among them would be Cthulhu.

  12. Firstly, I’m confused about Hibiki’s reaction to Makoto’s views on war. If someone takes up weapons with the intent to kill someone (wether it be for money, country, religion, or loved ones), isn’t it natural for them to expect to be killed as well? Even if he said it in an off-handed manner, I can’t find fault in his reasoning.
Secondly, I can’t believe that Chiya saw Makoto as a fucking eldritch being, even being unable to comprehend him! (I take the emphasis that the narration placed on her inability to comprehend him as an indication that her eyes allow her to comprehend what she sees on some level.)
Third, Makoto wanting to find cuteness in Waterfall’s rebirth was hilarious. He wanted to see the dragon struggle a bit with the egg shell, and stumble when it tried to walk, not act like an adult straight off the bat! Get with the program, stupid water dragon!

      1. she doesn’t see them that way, huh? I was surprised by that. I thought that she was a scheming type. Is it because of the heavy burden of seeing a comrade die before your eyes. … this is a loose way of categorizing people but in MBTI personlity, she’d be in between (ENTJ or ENFJ)

    1. Frankly, I found a lot of Hibiki’s views very hypocritical this chapter. She talks about the importance of a life and how you can’t just kill without feeling anything…after fighting the demons without even really hearing their side of the story and fighting a war of genocide against them.

    2. Firstly, I’m confused about Hibiki’s reaction to Makoto’s views on war. If someone takes up weapons with the intent to kill someone (wether it be for money, country, religion, or loved ones), isn’t it natural for them to expect to be killed as well?
I feel like there may be a Japanese cultural context here that we’re missing. Japan is an officially pacifist nation and his attitude may sound weird and murderous coming from somebody who otherwise has a “thick Japanese smell”.

    3. while the reasoning is true..saying that kind of thing in a off-handed manner is the problem here, i think even veteran soldiers will feel uncomfortable answered that kind of things.
i suspect that a power to “understanding mamono” given by the goddess are corrupting makoto’s mind, because while that way of thinking maybe natural for someone that come from war-ridden country, it’s unlikely for a person from a peaceful country to think that way unless he’s a sociopath or just bluffing when get asked that kind of question(well maybe to look cool or whatever)…well how can you explain someone that asking his subordinate to eat hyuman flesh for a sake of stealth was normal? haha
ahhh talking about the abyss on makoto’s neck make me remember, when tomoe&mio arguing to save Toa or not…they getting pressured by makoto and getting scared as hell… maybe they sense the Old one a little that time fufufu~ i really want to see it if there’s a war with the goddess arc

      1. But if there was a taint from the Universal language gift, wouldn’t the other gods have mentioned it? I just can’t think that they wouldn’t say anything, considering how much they’ve taken a liking to Makoto.

      2. @coatl45 but isn’t the Gods tell makoto to increase his magic capacity daily…maybe to keep something in check and in chapter 170 there is interesting conversation:
「Dear me. It is good that the ability that he is developing is his talent with a bow. That is best for Makoto. He is already putting that Surehit to use not only with the bow, but also with his magic.」(Daikokuten)
Daikokuten suddenly narrows his eyes and looks at Susanoo.
        His expression is reproachful.
「Hey hey, I just suggested a way to prepare Makoto so that if he were to ever fight a god, he could somehow manage, you know?」(Susanoo)
「… It is frustrating that we can do nothing but pray that this will be enough. I hope that the next thing we hear about that world is not a request for its destruction.」(Daikokuten)
the weird one is on the latter why there’s a possibility for a request to destroy a world? when they can put a choker etc on the goddess..and the way they talk about makoto it’s just like they want to keep him alive but in the same time afraid if he’s getting too strong.

    4. Coalt45, personally I think the white shell(which is the same as that of a normal “hyuman”(not human)(and what Makoto actually is)), represents that in plus of him overcoming his mortality and weakness as a hyuman, thus the crack(along with his internal magic being too strong for a mortal shell).
I think the crack might be there for 3 possible reasons:
Makoto has too much magic power inside him, and abilities that were too strong for his body/soul. Think of the time when his body and soul were too weak for the power he had in him, and was thus bleeding even from the eyes. It was in response to him going to die from that in the close future that the gods told him to do his magic/soul power doubling with archery more often in order for his body/soul to overcome that.
Possible reason #1: The crack appeared when he was suffering from the thing I mentioned above(including the bleeding from the eyes)
Possible reason #2: The crack appeared when he reached the point where he was getting at the level of power of a god, and thus the mortal shell cracked.
Possible reason #3: Similarly to the reason #2, but instead with the crack being due to Makoto directly stepping into the realm of gods when he achieved Creation Magic.
Heck, it might even be a mix of all 3 reasons, with the crack simply gradually getting bigger.

    5. Also, as for the “eldritch being” inside Makoto, I absolutely don’t think that it’s from an external source(that it’s another being inside Makoto).
I personally think that it’s just the representation of what makes up a god. I’m sure that Chiya would see something similar to that eldritch abyss if she looks at a real god too.
The way I see it, this makes sense, one of the main reason why gods are gods isn’t just power. It’s mostly them being a higher state of existence beyond mortals, beyond normal understanding. So it makes sense for them to be internally eldritch. Beings whose soul cannot be understood by mortal. This is something common in Lovecraftian lore.
Heck, even in Lovecraftian mythos, the normal gods are actually eldritch beings too.
Here’s a quote from the H.P. Lovecraft wikia:
“The Elder Gods have human-like appearance and they are benevolent in nature. In different parts of the world such as Egypt, Mesoamerica, and the Mediterranean they were worshipped by ancient humans. Nowadays, they are remembered as the gods in just about every ancient race, including Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Aztec, and many others.”
And here are a few among the ones that have been mentioned by name in works relating to the Lovecraftian mythos:
      – Hypnos(the Greek god of sleep)(mentioned in a short story named “Hypnos” and written by H.P. Lovecraft himself)
      – Nodens (who is a Celtic deity)
      – Bast/Bastet (The Egyptian Lioness goddess herself, who is also connected to Sekhmet closely enough that it’s debated that the two deities are one and the same)(She is also mentioned in works written by H.P. Lovecraft himself.)

      1. Yeah, I figured that there wasn’t any other being within Makoto, otherwise, Chiya would’ve seen two being’s essences. Her power allows her to view a physical representation of a person’s soul. What she sees isn’t real, just what her mind can comprehend of the subject’s soul. I was just having fun with the fact that she saw what amounts to a person with the essence of a god.

    6. Oh, one more thing. I do also think that Makoto’s god-level(or near god-level) use of Sakai played a role in what Chiya saw. I think that might be a reason why the crack was visible at all.
What I mean is that if he masters Sakai at a god level, the crack wouldn’t appear at all when he is trying to look like someone with no special power. And indeed, the only spot she could sense power from was the crack.
As such, his shell has most probably already broken, since he has already stepped into the realm of gods, even having Creation magic(which even most gods cannot use). As a result, continuing on the idea of normal gods being eldritch entities, Makoto’s soul now most probably look like what Chiya saw inside the fake shell(of Sakai), and she thus only saw a very small part of it.
This also bring another interesting point… If one day Makoto uses his true power once again(like the time with Root’s attack) and that Chiya is present, she will get to see Makoto’s soul without the Sakai concealment shell. Considering that just the little crack and what could be seen from it already gave her such a huge shock, now try to imagine how she would react from seeing/sensing the true non-concealed form of Makoto’s soul.
The result would in my opinion be the same thing that happens when people gaze upon/notice/see a true Lovecraftian entity. In short, she will have one or more of the following possibilities:
1- She’ll become insane. Her mind will go into a state of utter madness.
2- Her brain will melt from her mind and soul not being able to take in the eldritch information that will be coming to her head due to the Mind’s Eye.
2- She’ll fall into a coma from which she will never wake up.
      :3

    7. Ah, I forgot to mention another thing. If, like I mentioned before, the white shell is indeed the concealment form of Sakai on his soul, making him be felt as though he’s a normal talent-less hyuman, then this brings up another thing. Also continuing with my earlier point of normal gods also being eldritch entities(like the Elder Gods in Lovecraftian mythos), then I wonder about a few possibilites if Chiya sees a god:
1- She uses Mind’s Eye and it doesn’t work(for 4 possible reasons: A)due to the target being a true god; B)if its due to concealment(which I don’t think they would do); C)due to them modifying the perception of them by others to their advantage(if charm is something a mortal can do, what can a god do?); D)etc.)
2- She uses the Mind’s Eye and she sees the essence/soul of a true eldritch entity, and thus suffer one the fate one’s mind receive when gazing upon such an entity(aka, madness overdrive, brain/mind melting, etc).
3- She uses the Mind’s Eye, it works, but she cannot see much and is just confused at the result. This being due to the power being too weak to even be able of peeking at the soul of a god, but she would still get to perceive a bit of the energy/essence surrounding the soul. As such, it would only do as much as sensing somewhat the presence of magic/ki/energy in another mortal instead of seeing the soul.

  13. Thank you for the chapter~
I Wonder what it means. I’m gonna assume that white hyuman like exterior is probably the personification for what he thinks, he stands for? Fairness, justice, equality, etc… and that crack with something staring back is likely to be a more malicious side of him or that the foundation of his ideals might be misaligned, he does have a prejudice towards hyumans. Actually wasn’t describe as being hollow aswell~
I’m willing to bet the only reason his Inner essence is so descriptive and even extreme is because he so goddam powerful, and anyone else who “just like him” would get a downgraded version of that~
Man, there was allot to this chapter that I want to cover Mio, Hibiki’s views on Makoto, the waterfall dragon. Chapters like these I can’t help but love there’s just so much content to them~

    1. From her description, people with no real ambition or depth, show up as vaguely hyuman forms, I guess the material shows their character. She mentions seeing people made of mud, and people made of hard, shiny, metal. So maybe, inner Makoto is only very superficially a hyuman, with that exterior already cracking from people poking at it, and the inside is starting to show.

  14. Me: Yay, new chapter… time to read…
    – a few minutes later –
    Me: I’m halfway through
    Eyes: can’t take this anymore…
    Me: just a bit more
    Eye: staphhh…
    – few more minutes later-
    Me: finally im done…
    – thanks for the chapter… now im too tired and my eyes hurt… ~still, great work reigo~senpai

    1. — Right now, Hibiki saw Makoto as a dangerous being that has a ‘Don’t touch, dangerous’ sign with skulls all over the place. —
Why the hell I see it like someone home that have super scary guardian dog…
      XD…
      — Uwa, even though it hatched just now, the way it is breaking the shell is not cute at all.) (Makoto) —
Is that the point that u retort Makoto?
      XD…

  15. This chapter has so many interesting things. It’s funny that Makoto thinks that he has achieved the maximum influence that power alone can have. It’s also funny that Hibiki doesn’t even consider that power alone can have a maximum influence because their power levels are just way too different.
I am not sure about Hibiki evaluation of Makoto’s. The Empire hero mindset looks a lot more psycho than Makoto. Makoto mindset seems to be that of a soldier or a statesman. I am pretty sure many nobles around Hibiki share his mindset. Tomoki also has nuke like magic, which is definitely on a scale of destroying towns, the same level of power Hibiki thinks Makoto has. I am not sure if she is aware of Tomokis attack though. She also doesn’t seem to be aware of the plans the Empire has for guns. All in all my evaluation of Hibiki fell a lot. She is nowhere near someone who can change the entire world.
Chiya vision was awesome. I wonder if the dark part in Makoto is what led him to destroy the world in the alternative time lines. It seems to be somewhat in check now. Since she was able to see the ruling pacts I was surprised there’s no representation for the gifts from the gods or Asora. Makoto has the gift of understand and creation.

    1. Hmm. I think someone should play Makoto’s Advocate (get it?😆), but in Hibiki’s defense, she’s not doing too badly considering she doesn’t have even a fraction of the full picture.

    2. “All in all my evaluation of Hibiki fell a lot. She is nowhere near someone who can change the entire world.”
I disagree, she is capable of changing the world. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be for the better. Because of her own shortfalls and prejudices, she would change the world for the worse, though it wouldn’t be obvious at first. That’s why I like the fact that Makoto is there as well. He acts as a foil to her ‘reforms’. As long as he’s around, she can’t do as she likes. If Makoto ever decides to withdraw from that world and leaves it to her, that world is doomed.

  16. wooo!
That was a long chapter. Hmm I have to read back to check if Root said something about the Sand dragon being the only one to retains its memories after being reborn. If so the whole talking water dragon after hatching might be a slip up.

    1. Rather than a slip-up, I think the waterfall supreme dragon was simply able to understand/perceive the surroundings of the egg to some extent. At the very least enough to be able to understand what Root is saying. I personally think that Root talked to Waterfall’s mind when it was still inside the egg.
This might be what Root actually meant when Grount(sand dragon) came to Root’s office while Tomoe was there. Root mentioned that it was a get-together of 5 supreme dragons, counting the 2 eggs he still had with him, one of which was Waterfall’s egg. They might have been able to discuss with the dragons inside the eggs.
Also, considering that the Supreme Dragons are such high existences, while they lose their memories when reincarnating(except Grount), it is still highly probable that they do not lose their abilities(and can still use them instinctively).

  17. I think what Chiya saw in Makoto has something to do with what the goddess did when she granted him the ability to speak common language. There’s no way “blessing” someone with the language would make him feel like his head will explode, I don’t remember if he bleed but I think he did too.
Maybe it wasn’t a blessing but a curse or something like that, after all, she hates his looks so bad and wants him away from her precious hyumans.

    1. No. It’s actually a mistake on her part. The gods explained it, but they were speaking in a way that might’ve been hard to grasp. The Common language was supposedly a gift those who prayed to the goddess received so that they didn’t need to spend time learning to speak (another example of spoiling them into stupidity and forcing Demi-humans to kneel to her wether they want to or not). But she had actually cut corners on that (surprise, surprise😒). She had taken the ability to understand the languages of all things that all gods have, and given her followers only one language, or facet, of it. When she first spoke with Makoto, she was in such a hurry to get rid of him that she just gave him the ability to speak to all things, excluding hyuman’s Common (so it would be difficult to “contaminate” her precious hyumans). Then, when Makoto made the deal with her the night he fought Sophia, she just crammed the last facet of the Universal languages gift that she had withheld at their first meeting. She probably didn’t think about what she did at all, considering she was panicking and trying to hide everything she did and the state she had let her world get to from Susano’o, Athena, and Daikokuten (not that I think she would’ve thought that hard about it to begin with). The only reason Makoto was able to withstand the ability of a god like that was his unique meditation method with his bow. He’s fine now because he continued that practice.

        1. Nope, just that she gave him a fragmented gift before, and then gave the rest later. It’s not too surprising, really. Being able to understand the language of all things really should belong solely to the gods. Can you imagine the kind of power that gift gives? A human who can speak and reason with wolves can have those wolves do their bidding if they go about it the right way, and that’s only the tip of a very large iceberg.

  18. That makoto….
Dont laugh after saying “i didnt expect for it to be so powerful”
OMG …. people would be shocked that their mouth gape after hearing that.
And yet he thinks that is almost normal.
    Thank you!

    1. Which at least lends some credence to the theory that he’s at least beginning to become that blue/orange morality someone brought up last chapter. I’m not going to say that he is, but I will admit that he might be leaning towards it.

        1. Sorry, but after thinking about it, I really don’t think I can consider Makoto a candidate for it. Obviously, time will tell, but the problem is that Makoto is, at least in origin, a human being.
Orange/Blue morality, to me, means that the values are inherently either incomprehensible or at the very least impossible to sympathize with. The word I’m able to easily accept is Value Dissonance.
Makoto’s views on killing are slightly psychopathic, but from the perspective of a ruler of a country, it’s not that strange. There’s a perceivable pattern of thought and an understandable sliding scale to follow(Enemy vs Ally, Detriment vs. Benefit, etc).

  19. You know I was expecting Hibiki to use her head a little but just goes to show ya that she is still a naïve idiot playing hero. Like for non bug god sakes she can’t actually see the situation she is in and still thinks the goddess is a good, still tries to plan on opposing Makoto in some foolish way and still keeps to her dumb ideas about how the world is all flowers and butterflies with the goddess in charge. I especially found it stupid how she was bitching about how Makoto apparently had an apathetic attitude towards killing others when his requirements are probably the most sensible out of the 2 dumbass heroes. Yea lets bitch about how he will only kill people if they present a direct threat to him and have no problems about it due to the fact that they should be prepared for the very consequences of their actions yet the 2 heroes pulled out of nowhere are being used as pawns to put down what is essentially a rebellion from an oppressed group. Like dear lord Makoto better see how extremely naïve and egotistical Hibiki is sooner or later or maybe the abyss that is deep down inside is soul can do something about that. Sooner or later its tendrils will lash out and bring utter mayhem upon the fools.

    1. She just try to make a conclusion out of info given. She does not meet Tsukoyomi, all her information is given by Goddess, her circle of friends are hyumans, and the demon never try to communicate with her outside of battlefield

      1. I will admit that she is intelligent but considering how much info there is and how long she has been in that world. She still thinks the bug is good and this war wasnt a rebellion from the oppressed till now after Makoto said so even when there was plenty reason to be skeptical and at least investigate the situation but nope she is still a naive pawn in my book. She never questioned the religion or the war as far as I have seen and was just going along being a pawn in suppressing the demons but I will least give her that she was tryong to reform some systems in the hyuman govt.

        1. ” In that case, in his eyes, he might be seeing the current war with the demons as a revolution from the oppressed class.” was said by Hibiki, not Makoto.
care to explain “there was plenty reason to be skeptical and at least investigate the situation”? what is that supposed to mean? what was she supposed to ‘uncover’? how was it supposed to change anything at the war?
          chapter 64
-The girl who thought the demon race were monsters was surprised at first when she saw they had blue skin and an outward appearance extremely close to that of a human. At first she hesitated in fighting against them, but after a number of fights and seeing the deaths of her comrade soldiers as well as the enemy soldiers, she began accepting the constant fight to take one another’s life.
-Demonic beasts that could understand human speech, demon race, and also hyumans. In her current sense of value they are all on the same level and that principle has still not changed. That she was able to cope with this brutality that would normally conflict with her ideologies and faith is because she came to a conclusion of her own.
-Above all, the companions that fight at her side are important. Inside all the noise, the importance of their life is clearly heavier than that of a stranger. If these were companions that followed you in your journey, more the case.
she questionned the war and come to the conclusion she will protect the people she cared for, and that’s it

      2. Lately Hibiki is looking a lot like Kouki, she’s smart and all but looks on convenient interpretations to justify her acts.Sometimes she reflects on her contradictions sometimes but never tries to correct them making her look crooked.

        1. “looks on convenient interpretations to justify her acts”
sorry, I may be biased for Hibiki, but I don’t remember her doing that. when did she?
I remember Tomoki doing it in the dream with Makotwo: with the charm power, succession to emperor, the nuke…
but Hibiki, I don’t remember it.

      3. Which convenient interpretations and which actions are they being used to justify?
She’s in a war with the demons. That’s what she was summoned for. She doesn’t need to justify it to anyone.

      4. Of course both parties are fighting for their survival, demons will exterminate hyumans if given the chance. The situation is gone too awry for reconciliation (Bug wouldn’t allow anyway).
I called convenient interpretation to her political ways, she’s hellbent on playing the savior when she’s exactly the same as the Demon King(he is at least aware of the damage he is causing).
Read again Tomoe and Hibiki conversation and tell me if her plan is factible (her “peaceful” solution scared the hell out of me).

      5. Ok, I’ll bite. The two Hibiki quotes which I think indicate her solution are:
“「… Yes, at first. But as I learn of this this world’s customs and traditions, I realize that people who think like me are in the minority. I think that the relationship between humans and demi-humans is one of the problems that cause wars, but what we need to immediately deal with is the war that is happening right now. I will not condone the hyumans’ attitude towards demi-humans, but I will not outright deny it, either.」(Hibiki)
        and
「It’s exactly as you say. I am a calculative, shrewd person. The aristocracy in Limia must be reformed and the empire must be held back through diplomacy before I can raise the societal status of demi-humans. Of course, this is assuming that we win the war.」(Hibiki)
Which part is the scary part? She wants the war to be finished first before trying to change society’s values? That’s a reasonable approach, because you don’t want to fracture your own side while fighting a war. It’s a quick way to lose. (Whether or not this could be achieved in her lifetime is a separate issue. However, given her Charisma, she probably could.)
I sorta see Hibiki as the Lawful-Good alignment (I’m not sure if this is correct. Never played DnD). She believes in helping people, but she also believes in upholding the law (society’s norms and beliefs). If she’s going to try and create any change, she will do it in a gradual way that does not cause disorder.

      6. She’s supposedly a genius who gets hints from the slightest conversation strong charismatic etc….
How the hell is she not aware that Bug is the moral compass hyumans rely on? She declared demons and demi-hyumans as inferior species and encourages racism, if Hibiki really wants equality she has to kill Bug if she won’t kill her then she is lying like a politician.
Unlike Earth where Gods are abstract Bug is constantly speaking to hyumans and directing them, that is something a little reform won’t change.

        1. Ok, I just refresh the page
“I called convenient interpretation to her political ways, she’s hellbent on playing the savior when she’s exactly the same as the Demon King”
The demon king play the role of savior of the demon race too.. I don’t see your point
“(he is at least aware of the damage he is causing)”
All the talk about Hibiki’s hesitation and the guilt on the weight of taking people’s lives, and you see her as not aware of damages?
“her “peaceful” solution scared the hell out of me”
are you talking about the revolt? if she said she will cleanse the overly corupt country without a drop of blood you would have jump on her saying she is stupid and naive.

      7. First, it seems unfair to expect Hibiki to kill a god. Just because Makoto can do it, doesn’t mean anyone else can. So a rational person like Hibiki has to live with Bug, and figure out other ways.
Second, just because Bug set some rules doesn’t mean the Hyumans will follow them no matter what. Look at Illumgand (before he got tricked by the Demons). Look at the citizens of Tsige, or Rotsgard. They’re learning to accept Demi-Humans and even like them. So clearly, persuasion and peaceful methods are workable.

      8. It’s not about being fair/unfair, it’s the only option, Bug controls hyumans they are her fanatic believers. There are some exceptions but that’s it.
Those two cities are nothing more than irregular, they are close to the wasteland Makoto and Rembrandt (who is not a believer) have heavy influence there.

      9. Killing Bug is not the ONLY option, because it’s not even an option. They’re called Gods for a reason, and that’s because they’re so far beyond mortals it’s ridiculous.
(It’s like saying you have two ways to get to Japan. Take a plane or click your heels and say “there’s no place like Akihabara.” Regardless of how unpleasant one choice is, the other one is a joke.)
Only Makoto has a chance, and that’s because he can keep doubling his.magic. He had enough magic to create Asora, and he could still BARELY handle one all-language spell. The other heroes aren’t even remotely close to that.
But basically, you’re blaming Hibiki because she wasn’t given enough power to rival GOD. You’re treating Hibiki as some sort of perfect superhuman even MORE than Makoto, and feel betrayed when she turned out to be normal.
And while I agree that Rotsgard and Tsige are exceptions, the point is that peaceful methods CAN change hyumans minds, and Bug isn’t acting to stop it.

    1. I prefer this pov actually. Everyone’s thoughts and reactions are displayed, and it’s a lot more entertaining to me than a chain of events in one person’s perspective. That might just be my preference because I enjoy knowing as many sides of the story that I can get a hold of.

      1. Yeah I see where you are coming from. For this chapter the 3rd person perspective works well because of all the scheming and thinking done by the other characters. I personally like the first person perspective because I like that personal connection with the protagonist. It makes me feel like I am there and I feel more engaged. 🙂

        1. I’d like to add two more points to that.
The first one is just because there’s more room to focus on a single character’s perspective compared to multiple. The author did a good job giving both otherworlders their due attention, but that’s also why this chapter is insanely long.
The second one is simply because of the dramatic irony. The biggest one I can think of off the top of my head would be Makoto going “There was a Devil out in that battlefield too? He made a whole lake!? Geez, Sofia was troublesome, but I’m glad I didn’t run into someone as scary as that~”

      2. I agree with coatl45. I too prefer it when a narrative isn’t stuck to only one point of view. In some stories it works(such as in stories with the emphasis purposely put on an unreliable narrator), but in most other cases, I prefer to read the point of view of more than a single character.

  20. Demo….I mean you need to cleaning rubbles, time consuming tons of rubble with dead bodies? Mio (the calamity spider)the friendly construction supervisor the answer. The easy payment for her is only an ancient and antique castle or walls to eat. What do you waiting for? Call her now!!!

  21. Thanks for the chapter reigo-san
So the thing that chiya saw is probably what the demon maid girl forgot her name did awhile back at the demon territory right I mean what she put on makoto neck like a collar or something and she prolly misunderstood that as something ominous lol

      1. Ok then what do you any of you think I mean there was sari(is her name) cuz other than that dont remember anything else put on his neck though or prolly forgot.

  22. It’s simple the dark thing in his neck is the obviously :
gpd athena put on makoto and bugodess it got a watchful eye and if they do shit it kill them probably.(god tier curse)

  23. ….. so Makoto “ugly” appearance is like an EGG… and the real Makoto is like a Embodiment of True Darkness with creepy Eyes and Death aura comes from the cracks…. okay…. that’s scary as fuvk…. but badass!!!!
(imagine Pride’s Shadow but more creepy and deathly…)
err…. imagine a Big…Black…Scary….Spider do a Lovely gesture and smile towards you…. i’m suprised that priestess still can hold it….

  24. I laugh a lot in this chapter, cause this chap can be turning point to for how other see Kuzunoha Company & headache of Tomoe and Shiki cause Mio doing
    Thanks for chap

    1. Oh, there will definitely be lectures. Especially from Tomoe. I’ve always been surprised how a dragon prefers to use the silent secretive methods to get her objectives done, even if her specialty is illusion and magic of the mind.

      1. I suppose it’s because it’s more fun/interesting that way? The dragons have a rather carefree and playful attitude to everything, with Root being the worst.
Then again, they’ve been around for who knows how long. They’re like someone who beat a game and decides to play it again with some self-imposed rules, to make it more interesting. They can even respawn when they die, ffs.
Root even made a game like system with the adventurer guild, complete with a level indicator. How much more game-like can it get?
As a fellow overpowered monster who also takes things at his own pace, no wonder Makoto gets along with them so well.

  25. definitely Hibiki is judging makoto on what she is will do being in his place, very hypocrite, and the eye that stares back at you…
Reigokai, congratz on finishing this chapter.

    1. Also wonder what that eye thing inside the makoto egg is.
      or what does it mean?
      any ideas anyone?
or can someone explain that part to me please

      1. The egg might signify the fragility of Makoto (as much as we hate to admit, his mental state is more fragile than normal people. The potential worlds that he glimpsed more than spelled that out.). As for what I affectionately call the Eldritch Within, that’s probably the horrors that would be released if the world was to break the egg. And several events have already chipped away at the shell enough so that the horrors can gaze out of their prison of reason.

      2. “Eldritch Within” what a fitting name…
Yeah basically that’s quite sums it, an egg that seal the monster that should not see the light of day for obvious reason.
Btw it’s already 2 years in novel time line ? It means Makoto is turning 17? That means he finally enter legal age to conduct “intimate” skinship with Mio right ? I think Makoto still bound to modern age moral code no matter what, he may be apathetic towards hyuman because that one incident, but everything else is totally japanese in my perspective.

      3. @jinsan Don’t get your hopes up since herbivores are rampant in japan not that I blame them. Too much expectations with little reward plus huge risks.

  26. wuaahhhh
Mio is flaunting the Kuzonoha company’s power
Hibiki is surprised about the new reborn superior dragon
if only she knew that one of Makoto’s follower is the 2nd strongest superior dragon and he is of acquaintance of the strongest superior dragon too.
he danger level would up more several times than that of the SF movies she mentioned
    thanks for the chapter
this chapter felt really long to me I think if it were the other web novels they could divide it into four chapters

    1. I can imagine that coming up in the conversation that is to come. Hibki hears Root mentioned (and that he’s the most power of the dragons), and asks if she can meet him as well, to which both Waterfall-san and Makoto show faces of disgust.
They then try to dissuade her, and one of them drops the word “Pervert”, which the other affirms. They then continue to refer to Root as such, to Hibki’s great confusion, and unease.

      1. It would like to see it happen next chapter
but i don’t think Makoto would react like that to hibiki
Makoto’s respect for Hibiki is too high
even with change of his image of her to lower in this chapter there is still his respect for her unchanging

  27. It was an enormous chapter. Hibiki has the right state of mind. Actually telling Limia and Hibiki what they are dealing with is a pretty good idea. And this is a trivial level of power that they are showcasing so not much problem coz of it.
Hibiki also seems to have a good grasp about Tomoki. I’m worried about him doing stupid things that might make Makoto show his full power and killing him. The Goddess is most likely interfere at that time to save Tomoki’s ass. Wonder how the Earth world Gods would react on that kinda scenario.
    Thanks for the chapter!

    1. She can’t. Makoto’s three divine sponsors collared her, remember? She can’t break the rules anymore and overtly interfere with the world the way she did those two times she forced Makoto into battle.

    2. In my opinion, the Bug goddess’s intervention to stop Makoto from killing Trashmoki(after he tries to act against Makoto, probably also using charm on some of Makoto’s people who aren’t immune) will be the event that will lead to Makoto finally killing the goddess, and thus will be later in the story.

  28. THANKS FOR CHAPTER!
Wow Hibiki’s political side is too much, she is thinking like how a politician would think of other candidates and look at the other parties good points and that same way of thinking is being applied to makoto and for a brief sec she mentioned that his aides might be charmed and that they aren’t following him because of his archery. Which makes me think that she might actually be looking at people similar to The Matrix (just numerical).
Wth Chiya sees Hibiki as a she is but just shining but I expected the devil himself.

  29. Eh, just an idol thought, but has anyone considered that the evil god-ish being that gave Hibiki, and assumedly Tomoki, their ace in the hole powers is actually evil Makoto screwing about with other timelines? Probably not, but still, just take a moment to think about it.

    1. Lol, that’s be funny. But personally I think that god who did that is the one who was mentioned by Shiva, Susanoo and Athena. They mentioned among themselves(when they left Makoto’s place) that there was another being/god who was on the side of the Bug goddess, and it was implied/hinted(the way I see it) that this other god is one of the reasons why they cannot outright deal with the goddess themselves(as in can’t just go and kill her). So instead they are going the route of imposing limitations to what the goddess can do regarding Makoto.

  30. Thanks for the chapter.
One must not look at the length of a chapter and decide that it’s long enough to be counted as two, but only as one long ass chapter that should probably be considered “The Sponsored Chapter of Hell” and continue to give us the normal schedule chapter next at your convenience……you idget!
No matter I look forward to the next chapter. May it be as long and hearty. 😛

    1. Oh for f-…Whatever. Technology is annoying. Moving on.
Waterfall seems like an agreeable fellow.
So Tomoki already has some children, it seems. What…should we make of that?
And Lime…seems to have taken up the foolhardy quest to protect Common Sense-chan. It would arguably be easier to fight Makoto…

      1. it’s been two years already.. if he’s knocking up girls since day 1, I’m surprised it’s only brought out now
hmm, so their age would be
        Makoto 17 -> 19~
        Hibiki 18~ -> 20~
        Tomoki 15~ ->17~

      2. I might be wrong, but didn’t the two heroes and Makoto got summoned at different times, the heroes arriving much more earlier than Makoto? Several months, or more, maybe?

  31. so makoto on the outside is still a clean egg like a blank state but in the inside he’s already ‘OUT’ ?lol
and damn hibiki still regards makoto as a ‘boy’..
after this trip to limia makoto will be known in a different way as he expecting 😀

  32. I believe what Chiya saw was the future “God” in him viewing the world around him. And the body of Makoto is the vessel or shell containing the self until its ready to “Hatch”.
I know I’m not the only one who thinks he will become a god or something like that. And thinking along those lines and with the hatching of the dragon egg in this chapter and the description of what Chiya saw, I think it’s a good possibility that this chapter was a hint to what is possibly going to happen in the future. Maybe, maybe not. Should be awesome to find out what it all means later in the novel.

      1. … too late ? He is been on that route since he create that mazinger arm.
Creation magic are “usually” exclusive to god-kin, which mean Makoto is on the process on ascending to God realm, be it God and Devil is up to Makoto to decide.

    1. It coukd also be the cold mentality he shows when fighting. And supressed rage at the bug. But i hope your right and its him turning into a god since he pretty much is with that power

    2. Sounds about right, but it can be also his indiffrence or his hostility to hyumans or Bug (after all this ability comes from her).
Ps. Sorry for laguage English isnt my best

    3. or it´s one of the gods, like you know Shiva who gave him that ability to see weird dreams of parallel worlds? xD maybe he´s watching makoto so he wont become like the fails of the parallel worlds xD
It would explain how Chiya got the feeling of dying over and over, when she looked a god of detruction right into the eye, right?

    4. Now I can’t stop imagining Makoto breaking out of his shell, and someone idly thinking how the way he does it is not cute at all, and how disappointed they are at that.

    5. Makes sense. Makoto’s already demonstrated a strange knack for combat. And he does seem to have an odd value of life. Sort of like an ‘all or nothing’ mindset. His ‘Empty’ combat mode could very well be some sort of Monster or Death God personality bleeding into him. In fact, what with Asora being full of monsters and intelligent super animals, I could very well see him becoming some kind of God of Mamono’s.

    6. But why no one point the fact that Makoto is uggly. Even his parent and sister are so beatiful, from the begining is bothering me.
And how he can be so clean after so much murders and plots

      1. Yeah I think his ugly appearance is a curse set by someone or something so when the “Bug” did summon him wouldn’t taint him when she sent him over and would choose others to take his place as the hero(s). So that his life would be the way it is now.

        1. Is something like that … But that id from before that his parent made the wish to cross over other world, because his sisters and him born ok the new world so maybe a god from the “Earth” do something before that he born and send him backup, but i dont think that is tsuki-sama

    7. It true he might be a vessel to become a new God but that black thingredients with eye looking through a crack is more like Makoto inner self the part that can kill without remorse

  33. In the past, during his fight with Makoto, IO mentioned how it felt like he was fighting more than one person. Makoto himself noticed how there seemed to be a colder, dispasionate personality within him. It could be, as some have mentioned, an evolution from a mortal being into one standing above them, or maybe something piggybacked on him. A dark god or demonic entity (Think Loki, Satan, Beelzebub, that kinda thing)
One thing to support this is from Suzanoo, who said that Tsukuyomi’s power cannot create, yet somehow was used to create Asora. Makoto is a contradiction, and I think that plays an important clue as to who, or what is inside him. Something is altering, or reversing how Makoto reacts to the magic and power around him.
He grows stronger by dying (Firing his bow), he creates using power that cannot create and posseses skills that a human cannot have (Creation magic, all speech). I’m almost willing to say that he actually does die when he fires his bow, and somehow steals the power of alternate reality versions of himself to revive.
Now, one kink is the other deities. They don’t notice anything abnormal in him. They treat him as if that’s completely normal. They either can’t see what the priestess saw, or to them, it’s normal/not worth mentioning. This also gives some crediance that they just see him becoming more like them.
I honestly have a million theories, but I don’t have any real clue. I just hope it doesn’t turn out badly for him and the others. Even though Tomoki deserves to get beaten a bit for his attitude, I don’t want to see him get slaughtered. Same with everyone else. I fear, though, that the world is gonna turn against Makoto and he’ll turn into a destroyed.

    1. Well, I hope I can clear one thing up for you. The ability of all speech was given by the goddess when he first came to that world.
As for the Creation magic, I’m of the opinion that other races can’t do it not because of a lack of ability, but a lack of power. Ability and talent for it could have a say in it (explaining why some gods can, but most can’t), but if those of other races had the raw power to pull it off, it might be possible for many more to do it.

      1. “Considered” God, yet not yet. Let’s say he is on the route of becoming one.
As how I get from the conversation of three god, the creation magic need two things:
        1. Huge mana pool to shape something from nothing
        2. Imagination to actually construct the object.
Makoto splendidly tackling this two requirements which mean he have potential to become God, but not yet.
And jeff has stated interesting theory there, if Makoto did really steal power from other reality like jet lee “the one” movie, he could be storing their soul inside of him, that’s why chiya see something so dreadful.

    2. The alternate personality is probably related to his teacher back in Japan, and might be why the teaching ended so soon.
If he does literally gain power from dying, then I’d look more at e.g. Osiris & other resurrection gods. Particularly since the alternate worlds were implied to have literally existed, but been destroyed by Shiva as a bit of housekeeping (though I suppose it’s possible that Makoto already has a fully-populated afterlife as a result).
As for anything “piggybacking” on him, I assume that it would have come from Earth: he already had his “targetting” special ability back there, after all.

    3. Chapter 192 A new step
“Well, it is a good inclination. Makoto, hear me out. You can’t let your principles grow and perform a royal road. You also can’t let your emotions grow and advance a path of military rule. Slowly, it is fine to do it slowly, so think about the future, and decide in a way that you think is good. [You probably have already noticed yourself, but you are carrying a troublesome thing that would normally make you unable to open your eyes anymore.] Without being engulfed by it, slowly advance as a mortal, okay? Don’t just run away from destruction. In that point, your decision regarding that demon girl was good. As a Lord, that decision would have been bad, but as a human being, it wasn’t bad.” (Daikokuten)

    4. The point you brought(the one about Makoto’s powers contradicting themselves somehow) is very interesting.
Also, I’d like you to read some of the comments I wrote when it comes to what Chiya saw when looking at Makoto. To find my comments more easily, you just have to do Control F and search for the word “Lovecraft”, and then if you can’t find the comments, just click to see older comments and try again, and so on until you find them. It shouldn’t take you long.

  34. “(Something was there. Was there? With great interest, it looks around restlessly.) (Chiya)”
Reaction: Oh my its like the ‘Invisible Thing’ inside Imagine Breaker.
Ok references aside , remember all of the Possible Future Makotos in his Dream. I am get the feeling there is more to that than meets the eye…….
“(…Lime, are you looking to be peeled too?) (Mio)
    (Peeling?!) (Lime)”
    and
“At the place where the folding fan was pointing, in an instant, a dark swirl appeared at the ground and everything was gone.
Being swallowed by the dark swirl, the earth and sand, along with the rubble, had disappeared completely.”
Reaction:Scaryy!! Mio is Scary…She is way scarier than Novem (sevens)
“When talking about long ranged attacks, in this world, as expected, magic is the one that shines. If it’s only a single attack, ritual magic is best, but the preparation is troublesome, and it is easy to make countermeasures for it.” (Makoto)
Reaction: Ritual Magic!! I knew it, Shiki’s magic really ressebled Levinia Birdway’s Golden-style Cabal magic aka Western Magic.
I wanna see eastern style magic with Paper Talismans and Paper Crane Origami used for War.
Imagine Makoto chanting eerie sutras. With his face(which people of bug’s world consider ugly), his Demon Lord Legion Aura, and the creepy sutras, I am sure enemies would freak out when they encounter something like that.
    Final Note:
One solution to Hibiki’s Bug fascination is Makoto telling her other gods exist, use Earth and the Age of Enlightenment as an example and know that Hyumans can manage well without the Bug(that is if they can adapt lol).

    1. I just realized something. When Chiya said “But those eyes, they were only looking at me, and yet, my head was inundated by several images of death. It was as if I was being killed over and over.” It might be her sensing the result of Makoto’s special Archery training.

    2. Heck, even Tomoe said that when Makoto is doing that archery concentration thing, it feels as though he’s dead. If Tomoe can feel death in those times, only from external sensing, then Chiya can probably sense the result of all other “deaths” when looking at Makoto’s soul.^^

    1. I wouldn’t be surprised. Although I wonder why she hasn’t called her out on it. She isn’t stupid or dense (thank the Concordenax), but she doesn’t really care, or try, to read the situation. Maybe she doesn’t see it as her business?

  35. I think that Hibiki has a very mistaken impression of Makoto from their short interaction, so here’s my opinion as a soldier. Those who WILLINGLY step onto the battlefield should be prepared to lose their life, there is no right or wrong at that point. If millions stepped onto the battlefield willingly against me and I had the power to wipe them out, I would be willing to do so. This doesn’t mean that everyone who picks up a weapon is a warrior who’s putting their life on the line, some are forced there or just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, those I would have no problem letting go if they made themselves known. Life in the field of battle does become worth less when judged purely from a combative perspective, but it still has worth, at that stage, it’s a matter of personal values on how much they’re willing to sacrifice.

    1. It Makoto way of thinking and it true but what scare Hibiki not that Makoto can kill but how lightly he can do without minding value of life others and it a problem because if he don’t mind it at all he will able kill millions without bothering and we will have same Makoto as when he served Tomoki where he destroy country because he can

      1. The difference between that Makoto and this one was Asora. Makoto is a ruler now. He might resist the title and reverence they give to him, but it remains the same. He will kill those who threaten his people when he needs to, without mercy. He needs this mindset, but because Hibiki doesn’t know his position among those people he described to her as “acquaintances”, she doesn’t understand why he has this mindset and comes to the conclusion that he’s a mass murderer. Technically, he is, but can he be faulted for his reasons for being prepared to slaughter armies?

    2. @Falinmer
That’s the arrogance of the Hero, “everyone I killed opposed me therefore they are evil, but if someone else does it he/she is evil”. That double standard is the common point of most heroes.

      1. I think that in Hibiki’s case it’s just threat assessment. “He has no breaks in moral aspects and power, therefore much more dangerous than simply being powerful (but had problems with use of full scale of his powers)”

      2. I was talking about her absolute hypocrisy on the subject, she has killed countless demons/demi-hyumans/hyumans but because she did it as a “hero” she is good, when someone else does the same they are evil (Io also pointed that out).
Both are killing their enemies that endanger their plans or lives but only one side is evil and dangerous?

      3. I think you’re misunderstanding Hibiki’s problem with Makoto’s killing.
She understands and accepts the action of killing. Even the killing of hyumans.
It’s Makoto’s absolute INDIFFERENCE to killing that worries her.
Hibiki talks about how killing took her a little time to get used to, and how even Tomoki needed time to adjust. But from her perspective, Makoto appears to feel NOTHING. And that scares her, because he is a walking tactical nuclear warhead.
And she’s not wrong either. Makoto wiped out thousands of soldiers on both sides of the war during his first fight with Sofia, and he hasn’t given it a second thought.

      4. @Blue
Makoto felt bad when he killed the adventurer (when the orc died) but he got over it soon, showing his adaptability.
Are you talking about that time when Bug dropped him into a battlefield as a disposable piece? When Sofia almost killed him and Makoto frantically defended himself? Yeah because that was totally planed…
He might be able to kill without much remorse but Makoto seeks peace.

      5. @DB AV
I’m not saying Makoto WANTS to go killing. I’m saying that Hibiki THINKS Makoto has ZERO problems with killing, and that’s what scares her. (And thus, Hibiki is NOT being hypocritical.). And the author seems to have decided Hibiki has crazy good intuition.
For instance, when they were first in Zetsuya, and Tomoe kills the people spying on them, Makoto’s only reaction is “Mio, clean it up.” and “Tomoe, you are totally the evil magistrate here.”
I do agree that Makoto did cry after killing the adventurer personally, but I STILL don’t know if it’s because he killed someone or because he’s sad about the Orc, Arke, and Komoe. But either way, even that is abnormal. As Hibiki mentioned, even professional SOLDIERS had to go through careful training to get used to killing. It took Makoto, what, half an hour and a good cry?
Also, to be accurate, Makoto’s first act of killing was the Demons at Shen’s temple. (To be fair, there were other concerns at the time, so it’s a little iffy.) I think he even blew one of them into halves.

        1. ” I do agree that Makoto did cry after killing the adventurer personally, but I STILL don’t know if it’s because he killed someone or because he’s sad about the Orc, Arke, and Komoe. But either way, even that is abnormal. As Hibiki mentioned, even professional SOLDIERS had to go through careful training to get used to killing. It took Makoto, what, half an hour and a good cry?” – I don’t remember mutch of that chapter but Makoto went through the memories of the adventures before killing the only survivor, and what he saw drove him to make that decision, when he cried was more for the hole situation that a single fact in it. And Hibiki mentioned in this chapter that he is not the kind to express mutch of his feelings and the hint in the conversation between Tomoe and Shiki is that he is still procesing that incident in an unconcious level.

          1. Y’know, the way he represses his emotions like he does might be why he’s a walking tactical nuke with a hair trigger. If he doesn’t vent his negative emotions, eventually he will explode, and it’ll be a Vesuvius or Krakatoa type event scaled up to consume the entire world. Of course, if he didn’t suppress those emotions, he’d still be a walking tactical nuke, but he’d be more stable. I mean, we’ve seen Makoto lash out in rage, what, twice? Thrice? The adventurer in Tsige. The time he ordered the conquest of Kaleneon. And the time he beat Tomoki like a set of bongos. And how many times has this world shat on him? I know that it isn’t really in his nature, but I am a believer in the importance of being able to vent one’s negative emotions so that when bad things happen, they can be dealt with an appropriate response, with the response still being reasonable.

      6. Also, to clarify, HIbiki is worried about how much Makoto values lives. To give another comparison:
When Hibki lost Narval, she was traumatized for weeks, months.
When Makoto lost an Orc, and Komoe (I think the Arke lived), he cried for at most 1 day and was fine by the next.
You COULD call that Makoto being adaptable, but being THAT adaptable is abnormal. And possibly indicative of being a psychopath. Even now, Hibiki admits that killing an enemy is stressful. Whereas Makoto once said getting into a war with the demons (or not) is the difference between kicking a rock with his left leg or his right leg. Once he decides someone is his enemy, he (apparently) feels NOTHING about killing them (again, UNLIKE Hibki)

      7. @Blue
That’s a good point… Makoto might be a bit extremist in his love-hate relationships, thankfully he is not the aggressor.
About Hibiki’s feeling about demons, Io criticized her severly at how easily she ignored demons and demi-hyumans lifes. She was simply broken because of Naval and comparing her to an unnamed orc is a bit of a strech.Altenate Makoto’s rampage because Mio and Tomoe died is enough to now how losing them will affect this Makoto.

      8. That’s a fair statement. Makoto does value Mio and Tomoe much more than he would unnamed Orc A. But his response is again, another reason for Hibiki’s fear about how much he values lives.
A normal person, like Hibiki, might kill for revenge. But they will also limit it to the culprit. They don’t go killing the culprit’s friends and family.
In comparison, if someone kills someone precious to Makoto, he goes full-on genocide. Not just the people who killed Mio and Tomoe, not just the Goddess who set up the system, EVERYONE.

      9. If you are talking about Another Makoto we don’t now what happened. In Hibiki route I can only guess that she used and abused Makoto and killed his subordinates before he broke and started killing hers, but I might be wrong so let’s wait and see.

      10. While I would agree that we don’t know what Another Makoto experienced, unless the WHOLE world (and I mean everyone. Including children, babies, and old people) teamed up to kill him and his friends, his reaction is too extreme.
And part of why I know this is because Another Makoto (Makotwo?), nuked Lorel in the course of a war and turned a whole country into a desert. Once he designated them as enemies, he doesn’t care about civilians or soldiers. Children or the elderly.
(To be fair, Hibiki may have also killed civilians. The question is whether she did it knowingly or unknowingly. I do doubt that she would have killed children demons though. She still seems relatively normal, moral-wise. Like a soldier.)

      11. another point would be the first time he killed a person wasn’t the adventurer but the demons’ spy in the wastelands. he killed 4 (or 5?) demon by accident but since it was an accident he didn’t give a shit about it

    3. in another way, i think that Motoko impression toward Hibiki is hitting the spot, her best ability is not her swordman ship but her leadership aura yet in same time she is as hairle… whoop … harmless as Motoko see her…
She is too righteous to do some backstabbing behind Motoko , and even if Limia judged Motoko is a threat, Hibiki would need ton of thinking to decide that should her kills him or not.
not like trashmoki who threw everything he had in some bare seconds at Motoko …
if a guy points his gun at you, its about kill or killed, not about murdering or someone has 80 years old parents and 5 years old kids back home

    4. Legally? “act of war” sort of covers it all like a reverse-amnesty for soldiers, unless something like a UN tribunal is called to charge a few generals/leaders for war crimes and such.

  36. thanks for the chapter. It is a long chapter indeed, love how makoto break hibiki’s and chiya’s common sense and mio is doing same thing but bring Joshua is making use of her to the fullest, I do not know if that is a good thing or bad. =)

    1. its not make use, its about her company good will, some tini village like Asuta, her company can build one over a week just for her beloved master test his bow

  37. I believe Chiya saw him as a white, egg-like humanoid because of all the he has equipped or is currently using to suppress his mana leakage. I think the thing in his neck is because of the bug’s gift to him. Remember, the other God’s told him that what she gave him was an incomplete forbidden power, I think. Then, when she gave him the last of it (the ability to speak hyuman languages) it started causing him problems.

    1. I think its more like a pure white humanoid form like an egg with smooth and white surface but the upper part of the neck at the face part is cracked with a complete darkness with an eye looking at your very soul… Like Chiya said, white can be a form of being traitless like makoto is, going on what is happening at the same time not being completely pushed by the currents.. and his dark hollow part is the darkness within himself like how he has simplistic view of lives like in his battle mode

      1. I don’t think being simplistic make such a dark darkness though, since simplistic could be treat as naive and innocence, and Chiyo could have seen a monster with curious eyes with…killing..intent…
Now that I think about it… but it probably wouldn’t be that dark. The darkness have to come from something else.

    2. Keep in mind the power the Goddess gave him is no longer incomplete. It was incomplete when he didn’t have the common language which she shoved in there with a bit of trouble as part of their bargain. However we still don’t really know about what was bestowed upon him by the other 3 gods that visited him.

      1. Replying madcart here.
The ability name is “all understanding”
Yes, it is true that it is incomplete at the start. Well, technically, the bug gave him the ability by excluding hyuman speech so that it is normal ability. If she had gave him a complete version, it would be god class ability that may cause his soul to collapse if he did not hav sufficient mp.
When makoto was kidnapped the 2nd time, the goddess insert hyuman speech as per shiki’s request.
But this has caused bleeding through his eyes and nose… So, the gods suggested that makoto shld upped his mp limit to contain the ability within his soulz.
So, it is completed at the point when the bug insert the hyuman language, juz that he had some mp issue.

      2. Didn’t Shiva gave him those parallel worlds dreams? or was that an extra I’m just waiting for Makoto to use Tomoe, Mio and Shiki’s specialty with 100% control

  38. Thank you for the chapter. read from the beginning to here. Time well spent.
ohhhh I can’t wait for more reactions from Chiya and Hibi****.

  39. Thanks for the chapter! Some of the older comments have great theories presented. Quite good I might say.
And Reigo-senpai, take ur time ~

  40. I wonder if that black thing is the personification of Makoto’s power.
I mean, if you look at all of the way Makoto used his power… he did seemed pretty demonic no?
Like the way his mind cleared when in the middle of battle, or the amount of his absurdly absurd filled absurdity mana pool…

    1. well If I remember when makoto met a hyuman for the first time, this was scared of him because his power was so dense that even normal people would see it

  41. Thanks Reigokai for the chapter. I honestly enjoyed it quite a bit. These chapters honestly feel so short to me actually, but compared to other chapters, I like these more.
Any way, I read through most of the comments and there are quite a few things I agree with (Makoto’s Armour and Hibiki); however, I would like to share my own view on this as well – do note this is up for debate.
I agree with the notion that the humanoids are those without ambition, but can’t they also be the “masks” we all use in our everyday life? Think about it. We are all merely monsters living with manners – which ultimately is our masks. People learn to have them depending on circumstances. A certain psychiatric patient would show only micro expressions to hide her depression in order to get her freedom so that she can finally end her curse. A world war veteran who killed thousands can still feel the thrill of killing, yet has to go back to being a good neighbour so that he doesn’t get arrested. Murderers masquerade as the nicest of people so that their darkness can eventually envelop their victims and give the murderers the despair they so seek in others. That is what I think that Makoto’s white, humanoid, armour is. Remember she compared it to mud-like humanoids and steel-like humanoids. Isn’t that just the strength of the façade they have? Hibiki doesn’t have that since she never really had to hide herself. She was always one of the best, she was always the one making most of the decision, and later on her character became so twisted and hypocritical that she doesn’t even realize she isn’t herself anymore, but merely some kind of monster which is composed of everybody’s wishes – the shining light which Chiya saw, the hope they have for her which she encompasses. Now think about Trash in Gritonia. He had it too, he was bullied and had to take on the façade of the weak so that he could live, but once bullying goes past a certain threshold – the threshold which is determined by the person’s personality and character, it often ends up in either suicidal thoughts, or thoughts about killing another person – the person who inflicted the pain on him/her. Thus when he was summoned, his façade was immediately broken. That is where Makoto is special. He hasn’t broken yet, and Tomoe, Mio, and Shiki are terrified of that happening and so don’t want that to happen, and do anything they can to stop that from happening. A prime example would be what Mio is currently doing in Limia for Makoto – for her sleeping prince cat.
Thus the darkness might just be who he truly is creeping out – and let’s face it, we are all monsters in human disguises. I know a multitude of people who would honestly kill other people if they would not be obstructed by the law, I know numerous amount of people who would rape women if they could get away scot-free – as terribly sad as this is. In any case, isn’t that just the oppressed Makoto we see – the monster at his neck? Think about all the dreams he has had, the cursing, the microwave, the desert. It all indicates just how fragile his personality instilled in him by modern society really is. THink about it, why does he prefer to be alone? Loners often know themselves better than others. He practiced the bow because he liked it, but , in my opinion, also because it isolated him. Just look at how horribly he took the fact that he made his junior, Hasekawa, cry when she confessed and he turned her down. I say that darkness is the monster he has been trying to hide, and the armour is doing a pretty good job of hiding it, but Bug, and the heroes, and Root, and all those other mongrels are chipping away at his platemail like a blunt sword would, but they don’t know that the monster that hides underneath that is millions of times more terrifying than the knight in shining armour they think he is, who has come to save the princess they so wonderfully wish to keep out of reach.
Thus why the heroes’ understanding and actions are rather laughable, but also understandable. Think about it, Hibiki is hypocritical since she herself is an inconsistency. Tomoki is the monster he has always dreamed of becoming, since his mud armour has been destroyed by the Goddess. That is why she summoned them. Not only were they beautiful, but the were easy to manipulate as well. That’s another reason why I think Bug called Makoto ugly, maybe his inner Devil is so much more terrifying than a God of War or a God of Creation. He is, after all, called a Devil; and words often carry a trace of honestly and fact in them, albeit only slightly.
Sorry for the wall of text. Just figured I’d type my view and it ended up a nice castle wall. … Another would be fun.

    1. Pretty good observation, I said. Though does that mean his Persona come out because he want to be alone? If I remember correctly, the author never made any allusion to his past life that suggest he want to (more so, he want to interact with people). I agree that Makoto…probably isn’t as humaned as he think of be though, judging by his adaptibility. And maybe he doesn’t even realize the darkness within him, except for it very surface in which Makoto called his “second”. (Also, I don’t think being want to be alone is enough to make an Elder God-like thing that people in the comment talk so much)

      1. I cannot completely deny your point, as such I believe your theory as a lot of credibility, I just based mine on the first few images provided in the first chapter of the Manga. There you can see Makoto as a somewhat withdrawn person with only one or two good friends. It seemed to me as if he were keeping everything and everyone at a set distance from himself, though that might just be my own view being forced down on him.

    2. Hi
Personally, i liked ur views on the cracking being caused by others and hibiki being just the collection of wishes from ppl.
If i were to interpret the mud and metal silhouette, i would interpret it as:
      1. Mud being easy to wash away when one will change or reveal the inner self encounter some type of events or scenarios.
      2. Metal as well hidden type, which u need some agressive method to draw it out. Or maybe someone who is suffering in his heart (iron maiden)
      3. Egg like is nurture type. It is to develop over long period of time or still developing, aka, late bloomer…
However, since makoto’s had an crack on it. It can be a premature birth of an quality caused by the surrounding.
(Well, i interpreted the crack at the neck area as being strangled…)
With eyes looking towards the outside, it may be a representation of him changing in correspondence to the other.
Maybe because of his hyuman discrimination, he is exluding “dun piss me off” aura on hyuman. This may be the reason why Chiya could see/felt death from it…
Afterall, hibiki seems to asked for a buff like ability which power her up the more ppl think of her as hero (not confirm yet).
If what u say turn out to be the close to the author’s, maybe bug a good god afterall.
Technically, she throw him into the wasteland to prevent the hyuman from corrupting him (thou, i doubt the goddess see the problem in her creation). She may had given makoto the ability of “all understanding” minus hyuman language give makoto another form of trials.
If u think back, would goddess throw him into wasteland or battlefield, thinking that he may not had chance on winning

      1. Well, there are some things I completely agree on, and some I just can’t completely wrap my head around – but that is not because of insufficient facts, merely my own bias.
In any case. If you read the side story of Makoto’s Mother and Father and Bug, then you see that she really is a rather strong god, she created a portal with a few of her helpers, and held the massive gravity in place with nothing but what I call determination. You also see her acting quite childish, which means that anything can really go for her decisions, which is why children are so difficult to deal with. They act more on emotion than on fact, as we saw with bug pulling a temper tantrum and sleeping for 13(?) years.
However, I like to believe in a bug which is both a bug and at least someone who has had respect for quite a few centuries in her position. It is contrasting, but still.
I do, however, agree that your views and theories are very good and quite possible, some even more than most of my own.

    3. tl;dr but i kind of grasped what you were saying. Being away from a world where killing is strictly prohibited and living in one where life and death depend upon your mentality could be eroding his sense of values

    4. I loved reading your comment. You also brought up some great points.^^
I’d also appreciate if you could go read some of the comments I wrote concerning the nature of what Chiya saw when looking at Makoto’s soul. To find my comments about that, you just need to do Control F and search for the word “Lovecraftian”(if you don’t find it, just click to see older comments). I think you’d also be interested in the possibilities I brought up.
Oh, and lastly, I really, REALLY like your point concerning masks and the psychological aspects relating to them.

  42. thanks for the chapter . i dont know why but my firs comment didnt get posted ???
and when i tried to re-post it said duplicated post. ?! “and i was thinking that i got in the top 10 :)”
    anyway thanks for the chapter.
and i think there is a small typo in
“The fire spear that was released from her had pierced through the beast that came lunging at us, and was now carbonized.”
it is supposed to be “her hand ” or “her, had”. or i maybe wrong.
1- ” I feel like as a woman, I would have to eliminate him first before the Demon Lord. There’s also unconfirmed information that some Empire noble has given birth to the child of Tomoki. And in truth, there’s a number of girls that are currently pregnant.) (Hibiki)”
i really want to see him die now lol. he is more than trash even on the eyes of hibiki
2- “(Well, leaving that aside, the next thing that bothers me is this. Thinking about the natural traits of a hero, I would be able to understand, but I am slightly wondering if those two ‘are the same’ as well.) (Hibiki) ”
no he is not, if that was the case you will be pregnant by now.
3- “At times, the spider showed loving gestures as she touched the choker and chain.”
yeah thats mio for sure now. chiya-chan power are top.
4- “This is only my hunch but, I think that’s not a living thing. It is something that shouldn’t have eyes to begin with. And that something is looking at the outside from within him. With great interest, it looks around restlessly.) (Chiya)”

    1. didnt finish my comment and it got submited ?.
      4. chiya-chan we need u to analyze “makoto” more. to see that he is not the destroyer of worlds that u think he is inside.
that was a really long chapter. the next one will be on Friday i cant w8 to read it.

    1. He isn’t a Cthulhu. A Cthulhu doesn’t make sense, it like saying he is a Steve.
He might be an Elder god, an Outer god, or one of the Other gods
He could be one of the Great Ones, or one of the Great old ones.
Cthulhu is the name of a specific being, the high priest of the Great old ones in the city of R’lyeh, not it’s species.
Sorry for the rant, pet peve. But yeah, Makoto is Cthulhu-mytos esk in his mindwarping powers.

      1. Unfortunately if I wrote Old Ones, fewer people get the connection. Somehow Cthulhu became synonymous with the species. I once wrote Old Ones and someone asked what they are. So yeah, I wrote Cthulhu knowing it’s wrong.

        1. Fair enough. Confirmed that Makoto is from the cthulhu mythos might be better then? Otherwise we are sanctioning calling humans Steves as the specie name.
While i frequently do name my species in spore and evolution games Steve or Ted, i still think it’s slightly cringe worthy

  43. That was delicious food for my thoughts. Yum! Moo has really become a schemer though… is that a good thing or bad thing? I know it should be a good thing but it kinda feel like something became lost in the process.

  44. Would be interesting if the thing inside the crack is actually the actual makoto himself, like what he will become should the outer part/shell/ common sense maybe, got broken.
Maybe something like that world’s version of alternate makoto(s)?

  45. Makoto’s eyes of the abyss isn’t it sakai?
The eye that can lock on millions of tiny creatures that formed the purple cloud at once.
And also the one that can lock on to all of demon’s device in rotsgard.
No wonder chiya got scared, locked on by that = dead after all

  46. Chiya…. you poor thing….
You have to talk to makoto yet, and you have already formed the worst opinion of him?
Its your fault for being a peep tom, whore..,.
And hibiki seems more wise than I believed, even ina short time she has noticed , makoto is not your tipical op hero like her…. is much more, and maybe a short fuse nuclear bomb if you dare to molest him….
mío is lovable, she don’t care anithing but makoto, and she has her own agenda in this trip. Make hibiki and limia know makoto is not joke, and better they don’t taint him…. cause their country will disappear very fast….

      1. well… just look at the event when the people in the first hyuman base makoto encountered and their boss call makoto UGLY GOBLIN and see how MIO PIMPSLAP the MOFOS until his face like a freakin anpanman (if you want to look at the interpretation of his face, check the manga around chapter 14~16 i kinda forgot)

  47. Wow, thanks rei-sama for the chapter.
That black in Makoto seems to be Makoto itself. I think the white shell is probably common sense and power that bound it. I remember the three gods discussed about Sekai “limit” his growth in very peculiar way which creating Asora. This also explain how he accomplished creation despite its proved that only gods can do that.
I also think Makoto has power of “death” seeing his power seems increased the more times he died(arrow shoot). This explain how Priestess saw the black as being death over and over again and Makoto views of death.
I wonder what happen if Makoto out of his shell? well the Author seems to have given us a picture how its gonna be if its done “poorly”. I cannot wait to see whats gonna happen next.

    1. well , maybe Motoko origin were not even hyuman…
the success rate of crossover to another world without god support is low so his parents agreed to give back one of their kids if gods need them
However if just sacrifice a kid can give double seats ticket to cross the world, Truck kun would lost his job for sure …
so i bet he is something must hide away from Goddess, nurturing in other world just to bring back to destroy her later. ( all of his dream ended up with find the goddess to kill)
lets just name him anti goddess combat troop that solid purpose is kill the Goddess

  48. Thanks for the chapter as always Regokai-sensei, don’t worry we can survive a couple days with out update (shivers). Well Mio plan is working just fine, to think that she would reach such a tremendous result with such a simple action, say wonders about her. Kudos to hibiki for reaching the conclusion she did with so little info, altough she better walk reeally, Reallyyy, REALLY CAREFULL her thinking on how to handle Makoto is going in a dangerous place. It was good to see her inner thinking and the conclusions that she has drawn. Tomki is already a PAPA!!!!!!! Hope they are girls. lets see how he handle the stress of been worrying about who his daugther is dating!!!!!!!

    1. That….would actually be immensely amusing. Tomoki might not (but probably will) be a terrible father.
If he does develop paternal instincts though, it’d be funny to see how that goes down.

          1. I wanted to say ” incest is an impossibility” but Tomki can actually fall that mutch in my book, the irony is if his daugthers fall for a someon just like him, and he realizes that, How mutch will he despair!!!!!!!!

  49. hmmm i thought only Grount the dessert dragon was the only dragon that can retain her memories after being reborn, how come waterfall can speak as if he/she is an adult

    1. it was said “your memories intact”. I think they keep the importants part and forget the rest.
I think root asked for the spell because he didn’t want to lose the memories with ‘his’ husband in case he die

  50. Damn I don’t even think hibiki knows why she’s fighting demons, she’s been on god knows how many battlefields and she’s going around calling people murderers… I swear she got summoned they handed her sword and said those guys hit us and she just ran off.

    1. that’s because she sees herself as right and just. In a war soldiers are all murderer, the victor decides who is right and wrong.. and also her beliefs are kinda changed since she was defeated by Io at stella fort at first she thinks the goddess system should be abolished now she thinks it should continue

  51. I think I understand a little makoto’s personality he’s just slowly becoming indifferent to life and he’s unconsciously realizing he’s above the life forms of this world unlike his other self’s who had strong emotions regarding the world he’s going to be the cold indifferant character and if we want to stick to him becoming a god it fits complete indifference, and extremely powerful I think

    1. … I also like everyone in Toa party.
Also Zara, somehow I cannot hate someone that actually holds into his principle. Even when what he did is wrong, at least he did it with right mindset.
Well the other hyuman is so trivial that I feel nothing lol, but those that has become key character to shaping Makoto to where he is now is pretty much likeable. …. except Hero party, any hero party.
