Chapter 250: Makoto and titles

TL: Hi guys, Reigokai here!

Just as a comment said, I have been thinking about returning to my previous schedule since the chapters are coming shorter (which in webnovel standards, it is not).

The last normal chapter was actually an attempt to return, but I got slowed down with an event.

Anyways, no patch joke, just saying there will be an update now in release dates xD.
4 days -> 3 days.

At the time Makoto’s group was riding a carriage heading to the city Kannaoi that’s at the vicinity of Lorel’s grand labyrinth, in a far away place, at Academy Town Rotsgard, a certain pervert and genius dragon was groaning.

He -who is also a she- is the guild master, Root.

This is  the deepest part of the Adventurer Guild headquarters.

A room that rather than calling it a fantasy-like alchemist workshop, it is more like a research room of a scientist.

In content, the organization called the Adventurer Guild is a place that gives numerous benefits to the people that are considered ‘adventurers’.

In other words, it is a place with highly classified information.

The Adventurer Guild system that Root has constructed, right now, he himself is giving maintenance to it.

“As I thought, everything is working normally huh.”

There’s no problems at all.

Even though that kind of result is something to be happy about, Root’s expression was not that of cheer.

“The system error that appeared when registering Makoto-kun has not affected the system as a whole…but Makoto-kun’s level being 1, no matter how I think about it, this is where the problem should be…”

That’s what’s bothering Root.

The system error that occurred when Misumi Makoto registered as an adventurer, and the unbelievable level that came out -that is, level 1.

In the first place, the level that Root had established for the adventurers: the lowest is 1 and the strongest is 65535.

The highest value that is 65535, Root himself had set it to the same highest level as a certain old 16 bit TV game, so that’s why it is like this, and there was no other meaning in it aside from his own taste.

And since the time the Adventurer Guild was established, there hasn’t been a single person who has reached this level. It is also that kind of number.

In a sense, seeing a person reaching this number or surpassing it one day has become a big objective of Root.

By the way, even if a person surpasses level 65535, the level of that adventurer will display OVER.

It doesn’t return to 1 as an error.

Root had changed it that way not too long ago.

That time was the time when Root learned of Makoto, and he had doubted that maybe the level 1 was because of an error caused by surpassing the highest level.

And in reality, the power of Misumi Makoto is definitely not that of a level 1.

This guess of Root is certainly not without basis.

“Level 1 is a level that even children can surpass easily. As long as you have a bit of fighting capability, it should increase. Then why is Makoto-kun…”

There’s a problem, no doubt about that.

Root has been coming to this place every now and then, and repeating trial and error as he tried to solve this mystery.

Even so, the answer has not appeared yet.

“The skills he owns are appearing as normal. He is hiding his power value, so I can’t tell that part though.”

Every time Root moves his gaze and moves his fingers in the air, the board shaped thing that is floating around him and letting off a faint light was changing at a bewildering speed.

Like when continuously closing the window of a PC, opening them, and changing their size.

Numerous plates were moving busily with Root at its centre.

“His titles are also increasing well.”

The card of the adventurer guild has several functions in it that can be considered overtechnology, those functions surpass even the boundaries of the modern era.

As they increase in level and rank, these functions are unlocked one after the other, and the assistance of the guild is also proportional to the level and rank.

At first, the eyes of Makoto also sparkled when he heard of these functions, but to his regret, his level is unmovable.

Even if he wanted to increase his rank, the high-ranked requests have other conditions other than achievements, like a level condition, so he is unable to increase it.

Root immediately took this part away for the sake of Makoto, and changed the condition of strength into another one, but by the time Root had told Makoto this, he had already lost interest in things like level and rank.

With the current system, Makoto would be able to reach the highest rank while still being level 1.

Being the highest rank at level 1 would certainly stand out in a bad way.

Makoto most likely didn’t do this exactly because of that.

These titles that Root spoke are set in a way so that the adventurer receives it depending on a specific achievement and can be browsed in the card, and depending on the titles, there are also benefits.

From rookie to veteran, there are titles that are easy to obtain but takes years, special genres that require the person to repeat an action several times, and there are also some that can be obtained by defeating specific races.

Of course, there’s few benefits that can be obtained easily, and the harder it is to obtain the better the benefits.

For example, the grand labyrinth that Makoto’s group is heading to, if one has a title specialized in dungeons, depending on the title, they can show several times more efficiency than in normal circumstances.

Titles can be obtained no matter the level, so Makoto’s actions have allowed him to obtain titles as well.

But well, the person himself isn’t aware of it though.

“Aside from this one, all the others are outrageous. The first titles he obtained were [Friend of the Moon God] and [Religious disaffiliation] after all. [Miniature Archer], [Pact (Superior Dragon)], [Pact (Calamity)]…Eh?”

After that, there’s [Pact (Undead King)], [Pact ()] and Root’s eyes stopped at those parts.

“Undead king? It was only Undead before… Must be talking about Shiki-kun though. Hm? And there’s also a blank space? I haven’t heard anything about him having a pact with a new follower. Just what in the world…”

It seems like Root was bothered by a part of the title changing and that there was a new title of a newly added pact and that it is blank.

“Uwa, but the effects of both of them are incredible. It makes the [Dragon Hunter] and the [Super Wealthy] titles look weak. If an adventurer or a merchant were to obtain those high-ranked titles, they would jump in joy though.”

A wry smile appeared in Root.

There’s plenty of titles Makoto has that are outrageous.

Of course, their effects are extraordinary.

There’s not a single one that wouldn’t stand out if shown to the public, but thinking about the merits, there’s a lot of them that people would set without caring about standing out.

“Well, it is Makoto-kun after all. In the first place, he even has a title like [Friend of Moon God] which I have never set up. It was probably picked up by the system when the God from that side brought Makoto-kun here. It must be a Moon God, but it really got me there. Well, Makoto-kun himself hasn’t noticed this title either which makes him out of the ordinary though.”

For some reason, the effect is plain, but the ascending degree is as expected of a title involving a God.

It isn’t flashy, but it is definitely strong.

The unseen parts like the increase in power and favorability of chances was incredible. That’s the kind of title it is.

It is not an imaginable situation, but if Makoto were to face a tough fight without knowing of the existence of this title, Root thought that maybe he would tell him of this and gain his gratitude.

“And the one that makes me laugh no matter how many times I see it is [Owner of unconventional luck (BAD)].”

It not that he is blessed with unfortunate encounters; he is blessed with unfortunate BAD encounters.

It is specifically denoting that part, so that must be the case.

Root once again remembers Makoto.

He made a ‘kukuku’ laugh from the bottom of his throat, but for some reason, he suddenly stopped it.

“…Lorel. The palace of Yaso-Magatsuhi huh. Doma has not finished his reincarnation, and he has no dependents. Makoto-kun’s objective is the mercenary group that was created by a gamer cripple but it is merely a shadow of its former self now, so their destination is most likely at the 20th floor underground. Yeah, even if there’s the chance, I don’t think that will happen. That’s how it is supposed to be, but…the owner of bad unconventional luck huh. We are talking about Makoto-kun after all. But I can’t go there…”

Not that long ago, Makoto had surpassed the impossible and encountered Root.

Because it was definitely impossible, Root hadn’t thought of a countermeasure.

It was like a possibility inside a possibility.

If a variety of situations are taken into consideration, the chances would easily surpass the hundred millions, or even the billions, so it was a chance that was impossible to arrive with one chance.

And the owner of such a super rare title like unconventional luck, managed to draw out the card Root had set up himself. So easily.

There’s no title that shows its effects just by possessing it.

But if the person possessed the [Owner of Unconventional Luck] to begin with, there’s most likely strange occurrences happening around that person’s surroundings no matter the title.

The fact that he has obtained a title for it, means that everything is already too late.

A thrill-filled life is assured.

This is awful.

The Yaso-Katsui grand labyrinth, Root, who certainly called it the shrine of Yaso-Magatsuhi, silently closed his eyes.

“I don’t think it is possible that you will meet the phantom of Futsu…impossible, just what am I thinking? There’s no way that can happen. Now then, I gotta do something about Makoto-kun’s level 1, that’s why I am here after all.”

The simple thought of it was stupid, so Root stopped thinking about it.

Even so…surrounded by information of Makoto, Root’s expression was still clouded with no signs of clearing up.

◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

“Oooh, the other side of the outer wall is on the level of Tsige. Part of it is because there are times when the mamonos of the labyrinth attack them, but this sight is pretty nostalgic.” (Tomoe)

“As expected of a big city-desu wa ne.” (Mio)

When we looked at the distance from a slightly elevated hill, a big city spread in our vision.

Just like how Mio described it, it is big.

As expected of a prominent land in a major power.

Tsige can’t compare.

Tsige is limited in their terrain, so comparing wouldn’t be fair though.

But it really is big, you know.

The capital of Limia and Gritonia, the old metropolis of the demon race, no matter where I compare with, it isn’t as much as this one.

It might also be because it is in an open field, but it is incredible.

A magnificent view.

In my eyes, the outer walls look normal, but the inner walls are pretty tall and tough.

There’s also a number of agricultural lands on the way to the city.

I can also tell from here that the water from the rivers is being drawn into the inside of the city in a systematic manner.

Ah, I see.

The Wise’s knowledge in Kannaoi is most likely being utilized in those kind of parts.

It was probably because it was easier to implement compared to Mizuha because of the topography.

In Mizuha, it gave the feeling of being a parallel world city with a Japanese-like atmosphere; Kannaoi gives more of a feeling like the Japanese have placed their ideas in it, their livelihood.

Well, it doesn’t change the fact that it is a mix of Japanese and Western features in a fantasy world though.

“Hoh~, I can see a lot of ideas in a variety of places that most likely stemmed from playing around and from a flexible perspective. As a whole, the affectation in Tsige as a town is still lacking, but in this town, I can feel grace in it.” (Tomoe)

Grace, huh.

I see.

I am used to seeing those kind of places, so places like this feel nostalgic.

There’s a tall and sturdy inner wall, but from the impression that the city gives as a whole, I can’t feel any sort of enclosement.

Hah…this is a pleasant surprise.

The style of this city, or more like, the systemization of this land can serve as good reference for Tsige.

After finishing settling down with the independence, we can have Rembrandt-san and the others observe the place. It might create a pretty good reaction.

The wasteland and the labyrinth; the sensation of distance between them. There’s a bit of a difference between both places regarding that, but there’s no doubt that the development of both places were brought by the wasteland and the labyrinth respectively.

I changed my mind.

I won’t be concentrating only on the labyrinth, I will also properly check out the city itself.

“Kannaoi looks good.” (Makoto)

“Yes.” (Mio)

“Right.” (Tomoe)

Mio and Tomoe nodded.

It seems like the two have taken a liking to the city with their first look.

For now, there hasn’t been any interference of Tomoki, and he hasn’t attacked us either.

This is going really smoothly.

“…Even though we are looking at it from afar, why is it that you can understand it with such detail? That’s so mysterious-na no desu. I’m dumbfounded-na no desu.” (Iroha)

Iroha-chan, who has been silent until now, muttered this.

Oops, we were talking with our eyesight as the standard.

Since coming here, not only were my glasses unnecessary, my eyesight is better than that of the Maasai people and can see far away clearly, so it had turned into something natural for me.

Just as she said, Kannaoi is still far.

It is definitely not a distance where we would just go down and arrive at the city.

If we walk for a while, a lot of agricultural lands will be here and there, so there will be a lot of people on the road as well, but it seems like it was a bit too fast to talk fervently about the city.

I can smell food that has a scent similar to that of miso, and I am also interested in it, but…it would be better to pretend I don’t notice until I am actually close to the food huh.

“I can also smell miso-desu wa. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of way they make it, right Waka-sama?” (Mio)

Mio instantly notices and is all smiles.

“…Kannaoi is certainly in possession of miso, but I can say for sure that right now the only scent here is that of trees-desu. There’s no way that’s possible.” (Iroha)

“Well, it is Mio after all. Don’t get so bothered by it, Iroha-chan. Now then, just a bit more to go, let’s go.” (Makoto)

I urge Iroha-chan, who is making a complicated expression and an uneasy expression at the same time, to depart.

The carriage had stopped for a bit.

Even so, the sun is still high and we will probably arrive by today.

It would be better to increase the pace a bit more so that we can spend the night at an inn in the city, and that would be more comfortable.

Okay, let’s go with that.

“That’s right. It is the Kuzunoha Company, so this can’t be helped-na no desu. I can agree to that.” (Iroha)

Iroha-chan is desperately trying to agree with what’s happening in front of her.

No, it is not the Kuzunoha Company but Mio…

Well, that’s fine.

Anyways, from what we have checked of Shougetsu-san’s group that went ahead of us, they have been attacked a number of times, but it seems like they haven’t lost a single one.

They are also at a pace that won’t have any problems in arriving at Kannaoi while the sun is still up.

Leaving aside mamonos, our side has been able to arrive here comfortably without being attacked by people.

Everything okay.

The first thing to do once we arrive…

“Hm?”

I stop.

My breast pocket was warm like the Cairo.

But I haven’t placed anything that should be warm.

What is it then?

“The adventurer card?” (Makoto)

From the leather case I use to place my business cards, I take out the origin of the heat.

The O-parts high-spec card terminal that I received when I registered in the Adventurer Guild.

My level has not increased at all, so its functions have been sealed all this time.

Now that I think about it, I have not been using it lately.

Did it get lonely?

“It is somewhat warm.” (Makoto)

I can feel a vibration as if something inside of it is revolving.

Ah, it is that. It feels like when an outdated hard-disk is working.

It isn’t as noisy, and the heat isn’t that much of a deal, so there’s no harm in it. It doesn’t turn violent, and it is simply emitting a red phosphorescence.

But this is a first, so I am a bit uneasy.

“It doesn’t seem like it is sending out magic power or transmitting anything.” (Tomoe)

Tomoe promptly analyzes and tells me that there’s nothing dangerous with it.

“It is definitely Root doing something strange again. Seriously, that pervert never does anything good.” (Mio)

Root huh.

Just like Mio said, there’s the possibility.

He said that he wanted to investigate the reason of the level 1 and has been tinkering with it.

The card suddenly made high-pitched sounds like when scratching a blackboard, so I stormed his place yelling and he confessed.

It is plenty possible that this is part of his tinkering.

That guy, he said that he wouldn’t lie to me with a serious face, but he simply doesn’t lie and has a lot of things he hides.

When I complain to him, he nonchalantly tells me that I didn’t ask.

There was a time when he said in a loving manner: ‘Want me to tell you all the things in this world that I know of? Are you letting me do that?’ as if threatening me.

His male self is out of question, but now, even his female side is a no.

“It calmed down. That Root, what did he do?” (Makoto)

“Level…1…” (Iroha)

“Ah.”

Iroha-chan saw my level.

It is written pretty big so she saw it huh.

“It is fine, it is fine. If we add Kuzunoha Company + Raidou-sama, it is still understandable. Yes, I am fine-na no desu.” (Iroha)

Yeah, she doesn’t make a ruckus, but Iroha-chan has piled up stress.

‘Fine’ is not an almighty word.

Iroha-chan, you are worn out.

Let’s just pray for her inside my heart.

If we were to tell her that Root is the guild master of the Adventurer Guild, I feel like she will be on the verge of peeing, so this is the boundary where we should be prudent.

She hasn’t asked me anyways.

…Ah, I ended up saying the same excuse as Root.

I see…

I was thinking about going tonight to enquire with that pervert about today, but let’s ask him with a calm heart.

Because I have now understood a little bit the meaning behind that excuse.

“Fumu… Oi, Iroha, I will show you my card as we—” (Tomoe)

“Stop it!” (Makoto)

I stop the pointless messing around of Tomoe before it happens, and the calm and merry journey begins once again.

Almost at the same time as the curtains of the night come down, we managed to arrive at the city of Kannaoi.

Can someone enlight me about this Maasai thing?
      ?.?…

      1. I think the Maasai are an African tribe, but I’m afraid I don’t know anything else-if that’s even it.

Maybe they’re known for excellent vision?

      2. Maasia are a nomadic tribe in Kenya belonging to the Cushite tribal classification. They are known for cattle herding, jumping really high, long distance running and the most famous is as a rite of passage the male kill a lion – usually in a group. The vision characteristic being mentioned is not really a thing. Unless, they are talking of a different Maasai.
        Info: I am from Kenya.

      3. Actually, for an unsigned 16 bit integer it can contain 0 to 65535. So, there is one number not used here (zero) and it should be the real lowest.

        Agreed

  1. I’ll be honest, I’ve kinda gotten used to a more relaxed schedule that lets me reread and digest chapters.
    Totally not complaining though.

Ah. I tell a lie. Because this means we’ll run out of chapters all the faster. D:

      1. The translator said that it’s still on going in the latest chp, and said gonna tl it 3/4 per month, and there’s no update on it in the last 3 month.
Im kind of know what part of it that make it confusing for you, specially the main plot and what circumstance that the MC actually got into, but it’s just “still not explained” to me.

  2. This is exactly the situation where: I’m happy that we have more chapters but mad at the same time we won’t have anymore since it will catch up with the author..

  3. “I don’t think it is possible that you will meet the phantom of Futsu…impossible, just what am I thinking? There’s no way that can happen. Now then, I gotta do something about Makoto-kun’s level 1, that’s why I am here after all.”

    [BAD LUCK] SURPRISE MOTHAFAKA !!

    1. Stupid pervert dragon… Understimating the power innate to all MCs is the worst mistake ever.
Dammit with the level explanation, I was sure it was a memory overload because he was at 2^16

      1. I wont be surprised if the supercomputer that root have for the adventurer card overheat and explode. Because makoto level perhaps already reached the god level. You cant count that.

  4. You can’t level up because you yoruself haven’t leveled…
You’re leveling up the moon god bit inside ya~ which is apparently sentient to some extent. Or something that ate said power and you’ve been leveing that..

The card is attached to you, and read skills you developed. but you can know skills without the ability to use them.

Need to make a card for the innerself too xD

    1. As always, I really love it when the author addresses speculation the comments have been having and this time is no exception.

The author most definitely crushed the theory that Makoto is a numerical bug from being too high level. So all that’s left is the theory that his bow practice resets his existence and that he’s simply separate from the leveling system as a whole, right?

      1. The “reset by rebirth” theory is unlikely in my opinion. by what we sa the system is more developed that what we initially thought, Root probably collect intel in real time.
If Makoto were to reset at level one every bow training, that mean his level would go up and then go back to 1.
but Root didn’t hint anything that makoto ever left level 1, or having fluctuations, it sounded more that he was ever stuck in 1.

  5. When you discover a bug(?) that allows a player character with obscene stats, but is stuck at level one.
Root’s little scene gives off the image of a programmer pulling an all-nighter debugging their game.

On the topic of Root, anyone remember Tomoe once describing her(at the time) as some sort of really strict and regulation-oriented dragon? It makes me more than a little curious about her first meeting with an otherworlder, actually.

  6. I guess before because he make himself in situation like dead with his archery training his level reset everytime, but it won’t change from except his title. Maybe because of sakai
    thanks for chap

  7. Okay, firstly, let’s give a big cheer to Shiki! Way to go increasing your power enough to evolve into a whole different existence! Even if you can’t catch up to your senpai, your hard work has been recognized.

Secondly, wow. I didn’t think Root could actually make this world adhere to gaming that much, but here it is. Titles that are gained with achievements and benefits that come with them. [Owner of unconventional luck(BAD)] made me laugh way more than I should have.

….Hmm. I feel like there’s a way to manipulate probability in your favor if you visit a casino with Makoto, but I’m not exactly sure how I’d go about it…

  8. This whole bad luck and one in a million that always happens really remind of one of the witch stories from the Discworld series.

      1. Base 2 can still translate but base 32 or 64 has a hard time because it could trap a decimal or have an untranslatable symbol. It is the basic problem that many systems had back in the 90’s when 64-bit systems came out but couldn’t run 64-bit software on 32-bit CPUs but you could run 32-bit software on 64-bit CPUs. Basically it is easy to translate from a lower level but not a higher one. I mean you couldn’t play any modern game on those Guild Cards that are running on a 16-bit processor.

  9. Ha! Tomoe and Mio are practically gleefully bullying poor Iroha’s Common Sense.

I have to say, my opinion of her is rising by the chapter. She’s adapting pretty well to this situation and the Kuzunoha effect.

Even though she seems to be piling up disbelief, Iroha looks like she’s handling Common Sense damage pretty well. I wonder why that is? Mio’s “vaccination” last chapter? Her young and adaptable outlook? Influence of an otherworlder culture upbringing?

No good, there are too many factors.

  10. Makoto just can’t level up with be rebirth every times he pratice and he become that strong at level1(rebirth) so I think level2 need part of level1 with normal leveling. Yeah just destroy the world before pratice(rebirth) again for the sake of level2!

    1. that’s the most sensed theory i saw so far, people are born lvl 1, so even just growing up doing nothing will make you stronger than lvl 1 and lvl up

but makoto literally die when he practice archery, technically starting over at lvl 1 again, but twice as strong as before the practice, even god slaying might not lvl him up at this point, and he would just revert back to lvl 1 by practicing archery anyway

    2. your theory is actually pretty plausible dude. I feel it makes sense and i think that if it’s tested with what has happened so far it can really hold up nicely. My memory isn’t that good and i’m not really in the mood to review the early chapters; but i’d say that all it takes to see if your theory holds up (highly probably) is to check the first couple chapters with that in mind. Starting from the part when he registers on the adventurer’s system and from when he stops doing his archery training until he starts doing it again i’d guess (Even there his base stats were too high already…).

I’ll take your theory gentleman 🙂

      1. I think that it was mentioned that tolevel up one needs to kill someone of the same strengh or higher, sadly an existence of that level for Makoto would have to be in the tiers of Spirits kings and Gods, and anytime that he has fought something like that he hasn’t illed it. But even with all that he should have had some level when he registered so I am summing thats whats been bothering Root so far.

      1. I did capture the red dot you know, I’m not lying.
This week I was busy to pest…. to wake up my owner for Sahur, he likes to oversleep, so I made him cannot sleep instead.

      2. What a coincidence. My new freeloader cat always bother me when it’s time for Sahur and Iftar. Annoying even. His favourite place? In my room, on top of the window where the curtain hang. I thinks he likes to watch me mas… play pc games.

        Wait, so many similarity.
        Aren’t you my cat !?

      3. No sir, I believe you mistaken me with another cat.
I believe my master never played any games, he only like to massage himself in certain parts of his body while looking at animated female picture. So I helped him by play biting and poke his part with my fluffy paw, he seems to like it ? He always rewards me with snack afterwards.

      4. Then you’re not my cat. He likes to bite my toe… or shove his ass on my face when I’m sleeping. Leaving dead lizards on my shoes every morning…
I swear he is like an old guy who has a deep grudge on someone.

    1. “Lv1…”
LMAO I can already imagine her face when she say that
I bet Tomoe want to show her card and say that both of them lose to Raido in direct fight, she will be beyond broken if that happens. good call Raido !, for once in your life you made a quick right decisions.

  11. Many Thanks for the update!

So… he’s blessed with bad luck like a certain wielder of a special right hand? That clearly explain lots of things. But it still bothers me that he’s at level 1. Continue your hard work, hentai-san.

Lovely to see Iroha-chan slowly breaking down, is she the incarnation of that world common-sense? Poor her, you’re not at your Death March’s counterpart yet, don’t worry.

  12. I’ve been assuming for quite some time that his ‘level 1’ is the equivalent of if a ‘true’ god was level one. Add onto the fact that the world that he has control over is still growing and the help he got from the god that sent him over, maybe even giving him a ‘god soul shard’ or something?

  13. Root, doing what Root does best : annoying Makoto, without even being in his proximity

Poor Iroha-chan, making (and failing) her SAN checks :v

  14. Poor Iroha, her commonsense is already being bullied XD If she saw Makoto fight right now her commonsense would be broken immediately hahahaha
    Thanks for the chap ~

  15. thank you for the chapter…
“I don’t think it is possible that you will meet the phantom of Futsu”… hmm. do I smell a 5th follower ? 😀

  16. Thanks for the chapter, Reigo-senpai.

Looks like poor Makoto’s luck is going down hill. Still… 24 chapters left until caught up to the raws. I forgot the name of that one novel, but I REALLY hope that Reigokai picks up the one about the Janitor.

  17. help. An Izod impact test was performed on 20 specimens of PVC pipe. The sample mean is equals 1.44 and the sample standard deviation is s = 0.22. Find a 99% lower confidence bound on the true Izod impact strength. Assume the data are normally distributed.

Round your answer to 3 decimal places.

      1. Question of chicken GOD and endorsed by TRUCK-kun. Not suspicious at all. It could not be possible a test on who to send. Nope. Not suspicious. That is impossible.

        1. Hmm ? What are you implying ?
I’m not Chicken God. I’m just a Truck passing by and happened to find a lost chicken.

*hides cooking oil and flour behind seat*

  18. I’ve said it before, but Shiki is going to grow into something formidable when he integrates fully with those rings. Makoto expanded his mana pool considerably between contracting Mio and contracting Shiki, so his full potential is at least at that level.

[Pact ()] – I was thinking about it, and isn’t it strange that Tamaki’s contracted form is more child-like? The only examples we have of that happening are when the subject is weakened or fragmented. Komoe is a fragment of Tomoe, and Lancer looked like a kid when he was weaker.

Well at least we can all agree that that Phantom is going to get wrecked.

  19. Thanks for the chapter

    ^(°oo°)^ buhihiihihihihi!!!!!

I think the title[Owner of unconventional luck(BAD)] is a common title and the easiest to achive to all MC. However it is still super powerful title that let all kinds of MC to exp an unexpected events.

  20. Level 1 huh… either something is messing with him getting “experience” or maybe its root’s mistake for clamping the numbers in the positives. These levels ARE derived from some world blessing right? So if the “system” sees his increase in personal power as moving opposite of this world, could it be moving him “up” in the negatives?

Shrug… This chapter just seems to point out the “system’s” OVER check but not an UNDER equivilent.

  21. ty for the chap
i really like the guild card system
and i must thank the author to give us this piece of information
    also… root… are you a flag bearer?

  22. Name : Misumi Makoto
    Race : Human
    Level : 1
    HP : Not much …probably
    MP : Uncountable
STR : My blow create lake
VIT : just a scratch by hero sword
    INT : I’m just a merchant
MND : Made Harmony Supreme Dragon cry
    AGL : Unnecessary
DEX : Break even concept of accuracy

  23. thanks for the chapt!

why is there no title of “friends with the gods of war and destruction” ? he should have obtained them when he met them. Since he has disbelief with the religion and theres no “friend with the demon lord” or “creation magic” as well

    1. Destroy ? No ! This is far from destroying anything.
We will call it…. educational experience… yeah let’s fo with that.
If she can go trough all if this she will set to be a tougher person in the future, all this experience will make her prejudice go away and she will not put value on something carelessly.
Makoto doing a great favor by destr.. educating her properly.

      1. I agree. Chances are that these few days are going to stay with Iroha for the rest of her life, and much like Makoto’s students, she’s going to be better off for it due to the new perspective she’s gained.

      1. Me and my ghoul friends are a bit busy lately. They currently have a summer job for a famous game company.

  24. perhaps level is just percentage vs growth potential
and growth potential is fixed from birth infered from “previous life”
but MC can “reborn” as he like, hence, perma lvl 1

  25. Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but something I noticed is the colors of Makoto’s followers. Tomoe (Blue), Shiki (Red), Tamaki (Green). RGB, the three colors which can make pretty much any other color when mixed together. Then there’s Mio (Black) which absorbs and assimilates any other color, which makes sense with her entire character. Then there’s Makoto, who’s ‘true form’ turns out to be a completely white outer shell so he could really turn out to be anything since he starts off with a sort of ‘blank slate’ (too bad the hyumans are breaking that shell).

Also Root, setting up those flags. Good on ya buddy.

  26. “My breast pocket was warm like the Cairo.”

I believe it should be spelled as kairo.

Kairo are portable hand warmers for winter use, reputedly first used by ninjas.

  27. Thanks for the chapter! 😄

Tfw the program works right 99% of the time, except in one specific case it throws a fatal error, and you’ve been through every line of code and you can’t. Find. The. Damn. Problem! 😅

    1. umm, print random debug print and wait till it crash?
or calm down till you can read them properly again?
or re evaluate the damn workflow?
my current project produce glitch cause i sort the array first then taking part of it first rather than the other way.
took me a long time to notice

  28. thanks for the chapter!

so, even root doesn’t know why makoto is level.

    [Pact (Undead King)]
Shiki talked about ascending something greater than a lich when he fought in limia, does that mean he finaly succeced

    [Owner of unconventional luck (BAD)]
at least, it’s official and set in stone now.

“I don’t think it is possible that you will meet the phantom of Futsu…impossible, just what am I thinking? ”
Root: the odds are so low I would call it impossible, but…

“My breast pocket was warm like the Cairo.”
When Root thinks about you, you feel a warm heat in your chest. do you get the hint? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

“It is definitely Root doing something strange again. ”
Mio, did you just casually used the name of the demi-god head of superior dragon before iroha?

  29. I’ d like to see all his titles and why doesn’t Tamaki’s info not show up? She is the fourth pact. Does minor gods not show up? Reigokai, you took me by surprise and grateful for the chapter.

    1. I think that’s because she is an unknown life form.
tsukuyomi showed as moon god because gods are still know, but tamaki is a shikigami (I think?), maybe it’s something that never existed in root’s world, thus why it appear blank in the system.

or there is some plot behind tamaki…

    2. I assumed that’s because she’s something of a lesser god. In a number of stories, beings on that level typically can’t be read and their names get obscured.

You could say that Tsukuyomi shouldn’t be referenced then, but his “title” and “name” could be separate. It’s possible that the same thing would’ve happened if Makoto formed a contract with him.

  30. Thanks for the chapter, after the day I had I really needed this. Well author-sama you just increased the level of difficult of one of the toughest mysteries so far, but learning about all of those titles that he has was great. So shiki is no longer a simple Lich now he is an Undead King. And now we know about his luck. I hope we guet more info about this titles in the future.

  31. THANK YOU REIGOKAI !

Sorry I’m late in response (two chapters late!) because I was busy with real life. But I make sure to properly read the new chapters when it was fresh released.
    *******************************************

So, even Root doesn’t know the exact reason of Makoto’s problem with levelling system. Not that Makoto is interested in it anymore…
I guess he is stuck because he is level 1 ‘demigod’. That’s why. He is also ascending into a god, a god of Misfortune. Hahaha… wait. Maybe he is?

Iroha’s common sense is slowly breaking. Wait till she see Makoto in action, then a ‘new’ common sense will replace it.

His pact with Tamaki is still not shown in his status/titles because she never leaves Asora. Her existence is still unknown. I’m guessing that the status will change like Shiki’s, becoming [Pact (Angel)]. On that note, Shiki is so underrated that we didn’t realize that he is actually a strong follower with the most potential among others.

    1. Shiki was always a pretty big shot though. The problem is that he’s stuck being compared to national(Tomoe), global(Mio), and universal(Makoto) calamities. The fact that he’s able to try to catch up to them at all shows off his growing potential.

Somehow, I doubt he’ll ever reach a point where he can compete with any of his seniors, but who knows? Let’s give him a couple centuries to play with.

  32. oh yeah can someone that has been reading ahead understand who the hell that phantom? still didn’t understand it (I use google translate so you know my pain)

      1. Please… don’t read it like that.
I’m not being sarcastic. If it sounds like that, it’s unintentional. Honest.
I was trying NOT to spoil anything.
Logically saying, the name ‘phantom’ really means the ghost of dead people that still haunts a certain place. In this novel… it’s a foreshadow of a future encounter of Makoto with said Futsu phantom. And… this phantom IS related to Root hundreds of years ago and closely relates to how Root ends up as he/she presently is. Root him/herself said the name so you can expect that. (I don’t know how to phrase it anymore without spoiling anything so let’s stop here, or Train-chan will kill me)

Any explanation about that phantom at present would step into the realm of Spoiler.

        Happy?

      2. *choo..choo…*
        …..
        T… Train-chan. You’re here babe?
Wait, you heard wrong. I didn’t cheat on you.
        …..
        Listen to me. I swear I didn’t.
What? I never went to the Spoil Realm, it’s the red light district, I know. I definitely wouldn’t go there and check out the girls. Promise.
        ……
No I swear! Why are you changing the railway here?
        …..
        Wait !
        It’s PringleStorian ! He started it !

  33. Thanks for the chapter. When it was talking about the bad luck it reminded of vol 6 of “A Certain Magical Index”. When Tsuchimikado was talking to Aleister near to the end. He ask if he knew what “hard luck” meant. He answer “It is a another term for “rotten luck””.
Tsuchimikado told him that “hard luck” is the strong luck with which one will always overcome hellish misfortune, no matter how many time one encounters it. So Makoto will must likely over come in kind of misfortune that come right at him.

  34. “I don’t think it is possible that you will meet the phantom of Futsu…impossible, just what am I thinking?”
Oi Root, exactly! What are thinking! Impossible & the strongest existence (still level 1) in the same sentence? Guess we have meeting Futsu to look forward to 😁
    Lol, silly perv!
    Thx for the chapter

  35. Thanks for the chapter.

This might seem like it’s not related to the chapter but we still don’t know what’s his (Makoto) talent he was born with. That seems to be an important part.

    1. Wasn’t that talent his ” perfect aim ” ? or the perfect aim was other thing? Sorry for bad english.

  36. While i am also happy about the increased speed i think should appreciate his loyals more and finish those sponsored chapters first.

      1. I don’t know what you guys are talking about. She’s handling this perfectly fine. Rona had a harder time dealing with the knowledge of Kuzunoha than her.

        ….Wow. That’s kinda sad.

  37. just wanted to ask but is the side story already over? or is there no one who is donating for it to update?

Anyways WhoHO!! yay the authur is back! hope we get a earth arc or something where makoto comes back to earth because it is said that makoto will not even reach adulthood or something when he returns to his world by a god and his even 19 now so I guess its pretty close? So I guess he will return before defeating the bug and then later learning what happened to his parents and maybe finding out who is the healer that is considered unique encounter even by the gods.
Can’t wait for the next chapter!

    Also random comment but:
    Praise the lord!!!!
    Bless you all.

  38. Thanks for the chapter!
If a chapter suddenly returns to being long, don’t hesitate to delay it for a day if that will be more convenient for you. Chapters/3 days is nice and all, but I would rather you not lose any sleep just to get us a chapter a day earlier than is comfortable for you. We won’t be going anywhere, we can wait if we have to.

  39. I came up with a theory as to why makoto’s lvl 1 problem a few mths ago. Aft rereading the series, i remember the theory.
My guess is that root’s lvl based system is based on the soul experience or smtg similar.
It was stated by chiya that the current makoto is like a shell with a crack on the neck.

What if, the being inside the neck is the real self and it is blocked by the shell makoto created himself to seal his own ability/talent and root’s lvl system is using that as a source to define the lvl of a person. It was unable to giv an accurate reading as its being blocked by that shell(proxy). This would explain a lot on why his lvl never increases aft living years in that world and fighting a lot. Normally his lvl would increase. Slowly that shell is being shed tho.

Although slight, he is being accustomed to bringing out is true self to combat. Its very likely that in the future, he might realized his original talent and embraced it in order to move forward to the confrontation with the goddess. Maybe eventually, when he is released from his own mental burden, his true lvl will finally be expose and bring chaos to the world. 😛

Well guys, its just my theory but what do u guys think?

    1. Maybe… but it may also have something to do with his bow training and concentration. Remember he diffused his consciousness to the point of death and rebirth. This could effectively reset his level everyone he dies and is reborn…

    2. I figure it probably has more to do with the Draupnir. Keep in mind that everyone thinks he’s super weak because the rings and clothes syphon off his power to the point he doesn’t have a magic signature. The system root set up might work on a similar principle to what people use to estimate strength so it can’t register his.

  40. How nostalgic. Coming back to this chapter after my first tech internship, I feel like I understand Root a lot more lol. Sometimes code works, sometimes it doesn’t. I often get this WHY WON’T IT WORK?! feeling

  41. Author, is already to late to try to give importance to the level system and the adventurer card, even if you add titles because until now there wasn’t even the concept the effect of say all that now is minimal, it’s only in the level of been a little curious, nothing more.
