Chapter 271: The difference in the sense of value in life

Sponsored Chapter

Ooh boy, we actually hit the last sponsored chapter!
Many thanks to the ones who supported these chapters, I am truly grateful!
Since -sadly- the last chapter up-to-date for the novel is approaching, I will be saving the speech for later.
Anyways, enjoy! 😀

“Now then, there’s a mountain of things I want to hear of you, but first of all, why are you here?” (Makoto)
“Of course, to meet you.” (Root)
The top floor of the Kuzunoha Company’s new head office.
After releasing Root from the restrain at my office, he said this with a straight face.
Ah, of course, I entered through the backdoor.
As expected, it would be bad to have the customers that are in the middle of shopping learn of my return, of course, I can simply explain them that’s not the case, but I decided not to expose it.
“Okay, that might be one of the reasons. Then, the other reason?” (Makoto)
“To inspect the Adventurer Guild of Tsige. Lately, the places around here have been rowdy, so it was to make a confirmation of sorts. And in truth, it seems like the Guild is pretty cooperative to the movements of the town.” (Root)
“Yeah.” (Makoto)
That part is exactly as he says.
We are having the Adventurer Guild cooperate entirely.
Thinking about the public position that Root talks about, and the Adventurer Guild’s significance, just having it as a meeting place is already helping plenty.
With the matter of the independence and the coup d’etat in Aion, there’s plenty reason for him to come here to inspect.
Then, he simply came flying here after hearing about me from Sofia, but it is not like he has any sort of ulterior motive?
Eeh? That Root?
But what he is saying makes sense…
It also sounds convincing.
“Makoto-kun?” (Root)
“Are those really the only reasons? Aren’t you scheming something?” (Makoto)
“None none. I heard from the report of that girl that she had met you, heard a nostalgic name, and that you would be going to Tsige. Meeting with Makoto-kun was a matter of luck, but I thought that it would be nice to come to Tsige at least once, that’s all.” (Root)
Laughing lightly, he flaps his hand in front of his face and laughs.
“…Then that topic is fine already. Next, Sofia who I met not that long ago, what was that about? What are your intentions?” (Makoto)
“Uh, yeah. It is true that I was thinking about making it a small surprise for Makoto-kun, so I kept it a secret. Uhm…how to say it…Makoto-kun, aren’t you especially angry? Now that I think about it, I feel like it was the same a few moments ago too…” (Root)
“I heard and learned about a variety of things you were involved with, and I saw for myself the matter of Sofia after all. Just means that there’s no short amount of questionable things. Root, after what happened, didn’t you finish off Sofia? Why is she still alive, moreover, younger?” (Makoto)
“Things I was involved in, huh. I don’t think I have done that many things that would warrant hate from Makoto-kun though. Also, about that girl, I am simply having her take responsibility for what she did, you know?” (Root)
“Responsibility?” (Makoto)
Root was supposed to have retrieved the power of the Superior Dragons from Sofia and finished her.
I thought that was the last of the adventurer called Dragon Slayer, and yet, he tampered with her memories and made her younger.
When I asked for the reason, what I got in return from Root was the word ‘responsibility’.
“Sofia and Lancer went and did whatever they wanted for the sake of their own goals. Of course, there was no small amount of sacrifices because of it. Because of their intervention, there have been several countries falling to ruin. The amount of people and material damage is still unknown. The chaos they created utilizing the war was also quite the deal. When Lancer grows to a certain extent, I will have him return to his original place, and will have him work as one of the dragons that provides trials, just like Grount. With none of what he has done till now, that is. Then, about Sofia…” (Root)
“About Sofia, you say. She wouldn’t have done something like atoning. She wouldn’t regret walking the path she chose. That’s how it felt, you know?” (Makoto)
“Yeah, even at the border of death, she still spouted begrudging words towards me.” (Root)
With both of his palms up, he shrugs his shoulders.
That does sound like the last moments of someone like Sofia.
I somewhat could tell that she wouldn’t be doing something like plead for her life.
“Then, even with that, she didn’t die?” (Makoto)
“Ahahaha! Oh you, Makoto-kun, that’s not like you.” (Root)
“What is?” (Makoto)
“Die and that’s the end. ‘Counting death as taking responsibility, don’t joke around’, isn’t that something you said as well? Even if a crime has been committed, there’s a limit to how many things one can take responsibility for when the one responsible is dead. Apparently, that’s not something that can be forgiven. And so, that’s the gist of it.” (Root)
“…”
True.
I don’t know when it was, but I do remember having a conversation like that in Rotsgard, with Tomoe and Root.
I think it revolved around *seppuku*. <disembowelment>
Stirring society plenty, and when they realize that their objective can’t be accomplished, they refuse to live in disgrace and choose suicide.
‘All the responsibility is on me, so I want to bring a closure to my own life’, just how selfish that is, is what I said. Well, I slightly remember I said that to the two while I was drunk.
“I am also of the same opinion as you. It is wrong to think that with death your responsibilities will stop their hounding. Luckily, she was an adventurer with power. She was also a vessel that had a bit of my power within her after all. That’s why I decided to breathe life into her for recycling.” (Root)
“Recycling…” (Makoto)
“By having her work as an adventurer in the direct control of the Adventurer Guild, I will have her work in reducing the amount of problems in the world. In other words, I am having her take responsibility.” (Root)
“…And why did you tamper with her memories?” (Makoto)
Root didn’t seem to show any hesitation as he explains the reason why he revived Sofia, and about her currently working.
“That’s a foolish question, Makoto-kun. With how she is, there’s no way she would have obediently followed my orders. Just as you saw, she was possessed by hate after all.” (Root)
“That’s why you imprinted in her that she would happily act for her loved father?” (Makoto)
“Honestly speaking, I didn’t care about her relation with me though. I simply sounded out her dormant desires after the bleaching, and imprinted memories of an environment she would accept more easily. Seriously, I laughed, you know? She hated me that much, and yet, her dreamed upbringing was that of being loved by me, grow her power straightforwardly, and contribute to society. Really, she walked a path that was completely contrary to that.” (Root)
“Root…” (Makoto)
“It is true that I probably surprised you needlessly. If it wasn’t a fun surprise for Makoto-kun, I apologize. But, is it really something to be so angry about?” (Root)
“…”
“Sofia and Lancer really created chaos in the world. If you want to, I can even show you the details of that damage in the future. They have to atone for that. If possible, by their own hands. Isn’t that right?” (Root)
“…”
It is true that, if possible, that’s how it should be.
If it is possible, that is.
I felt that these words had pretty distant meanings for the human me, and the dragon Root.
That’s right, because this is how I think, and in truth, I still think this way. Can it even be called atonement when you have to go all the way and do things like reviving and tampering with their memories?
Can it be recognized as the atonement of the Sofia that perpetrated them?
“The current Sofia is putting her all in her work. She is also tackling the reconstruction of Kaleneon with all she has. Not because of reasons like ‘the reward is good’ or ‘there’s a formidable enemy’, it is simply because she is happy that it is for the sake of the world. She also obtained the past she wished for. No one is unhappy about it, and I think it was a somewhat good decision though.” (Root)
“No one is unhappy, huh.” (Makoto)
As I thought, is this what they call a difference in views?
In the explanation of Root, there was no unpleasant scheme I felt there was.
No, giving me a surprise was a bit unpleasant though.
For him who has lived for a long time, it seems something like bringing back to life a hyuman that has died once is not that big of a deal.
Now that I think about it, even when Lancer changed a brave into a sword for his collection, it didn’t seem like he did much to stop him, and even if he acts like a hyuman, it is probably wrong to talk to him with the sense of value of a human being.
He normally acts strangely like a hyuman, so it really confuses me sometimes.
No one is unhappy.
That’s true.
“So that means…Sofia was reborn…” (Makoto)
At that time, Sofia was killed by Root.
That Sofia disappeared, and Root gave her the life she dormantly desired, and she was reborn.
Thus, in order to have her atone for the crimes she has committed even if for a bit, Root is having her work.
Haha.
Thinking again about it in that way, I could tell the indescribable disgust towards Root I felt when I saw Sofia had clearly been reduced.
I probably am also becoming pretty weird.
The opinions I have towards death that are inside me, there’s times when it just doesn’t hold much meaning when I am talking about it to someone on Root class.
In these kind of conversations, Shiki is the same sometimes.
“…Well, that’s about it. It would have been fine to set her a bit younger, but that age was the most convenient for her to apply the techniques and knowledge she obtained, so it just ended up that way. It is not like I was trying to check for the sexual preferences of Makoto-kun.” (Root)
…He doesn’t have any hidden scheme, right?
Yeah, let’s stop pursuing too deeply for now.
In the first place, this was an unexpected development anyways.
The real matter at hand is Rokuya-san and his group.
Regarding their immortality.
And then…I probably won’t be able to hope for a careless blutter of Root regarding the dragon Futsu.
I was asked by Rokuya-san to keep secret about the latter one, so it is irritating that I can’t tackle that subject.
“…Then, is it okay to count Sofia as a working force?” (Makoto)
These weren’t words I muttered towards Root.
They were words that leaked out from my mouth to confirm with myself.
“It would help me if you do that. It seems like the misunderstanding has been dissolved a little. But it looks like you still have more. Fine then. Let’s do a ‘please teach me, Root-sensei’.” (Root) <Pretty sure it is a Gintama reference. But we are talking about Gintama, so Gintama may be parodying something else.>
For some reason, Root made a triumphant expression as he puffs his chest.
Even so, my brain may understand, but somewhere inside my heart still doesn’t accept it completely.
How to say it, it is as if there’s still some fuzziness in a corner of it.
But he is the one offering to tell me, so rather than pursuing that fuzzy feeling of mine, it would be better to just change the topic to something else.
“About the Adventurer Guild and the Adventurers of Origin.” (Makoto)
“!! It is as expected, or more like, you really go for the toughest spots, Makoto-kun. When I heard the name of Azu-kun at the guild, a corner of my head was wondering if that might be the case though.” (Root)
“I heard a pretty different story from the one you gave me before. And so, I began to think that I would like to hear your side of it.” (Makoto)
“…I thought it might be possible, but…I see. You have met them huh, someone among them. By the way, can you tell me from who you heard it from?” (Root)
“…From a person named Rokuya-san.” (Makoto)
It should be fine to tell him that, aside from talking about Futsu.
Seems like they were friends to begin with anyways.
Or more like, it seems there were people that the woman Root had a physical relationship with after all.
With this pervert.
It is unthinkable for me.
It is already not a matter of being carnivorous or herbivorous.
“Him huh. Was he doing fine?” (Root)
As if asking for the present state of an old friend, Root makes nostalgic eyes as he asks me.
…This is the first time…I have seen Root with a face like this.
“Yeah, I think he was doing fine.” (Makoto)
“I see. As always, he was aloof from the world, loves to draw, and when he kills, he still makes those sad eyes?” (Root)
“No well, I have only talked with him, so I don’t know that much. It seems there’s the atmosphere of an impending battle, but I don’t have the intentions of being killed, so I don’t think I will be able to confirm.” (Makoto)
“Battle? Hmm, if I remember correctly, Makoto-kun’s objective was to bring the mercenary group there. Then…yeah, if it’s them, it might be possible. They are as always huh. I see, they are at that grand labyrinth. That Doma, he never reported anything to me.” (Root)
“You, don’t you have any intentions of taking a side?” (Makoto)
“None. If they are involved, I intend to silently watch over it. I also don’t intend to do much justification to the things you heard from Roku-kun.If he is the one who said it, it is all true. If I had to correct something, it is probably your words.” (Root)
“Mine?” (Makoto)
Then he admits that he made them immortal and tied them down?
If even that isn’t a matter to care about like with Sofia, I think I won’t be able to comprehend him for life.
“Regarding the part about what I said being different from what he said. Putting it correctly, isn’t it just that you heard things you didn’t hear from me? For example, the system of the Adventurer Guild. About the core of it.” (Root)
“!!”
So he has an idea of what I want to ask huh.
“And what happened to them as a result. Probably also about them disappearing from history’s front stage. So, is what you are going to ask something between those lines?” (Root)
“Yeah, if you are willing to tell me, please do. Honestly speaking, I think there’s no worse punishment than giving immortality to people. If you really see the Wise, the Japanese people as rare existences that should be welcomed, why did you do something like that to Rokuya-san and his group? If possible, I would want you to tell me in a way that I can accept.” (Makoto)
“…Of course, I will tell you. However, I don’t know if Makoto-kun will accept it. But there’s one thing I can say for sure, this is all past history that has already concluded, and the concerned party has accepted the result of it. I don’t know how much of a meaning it has inside of you that will make it acceptable or not, but I will properly tell you the truth.” (Root)
Again.
Past history.
Those words pierce sharply.
If it were about Toa’s ancestors and Sofia, it would be another story, but with Rokuya-san and his group, the circumstances are different.
Since we are talking about immortality, can it really be called a matter of the past?
And in reality, Rokuya-san is currently alive.
…Then, has he hated Root? Has he not accepted it?
That’s…
Root speaks out.
A story of long past where several familiar names appear.
Not even in the library of Rotsgard Academy it remains, but it is a story that without doubt existed.
My resolution wavers, and with my standing still not clear yet, the story involving the Guild of Root continued on.

      1. I wonder how a story called Isekai Tensei Seppuku would go…
It would either be painfully cringey with more Edge than the game Catherine…or actually something pretty cool that embraces dark themes in possibly a morbidly humorous way.

    1. Yes, that’s my intention! 😀 There’s this group of chapters that I still am not sure in what order I should be releasing them, but it will surely be more worked on now.

    1. I brought grappling hooks! Just give me a few more days and I’ll have them all linked up in a Dr. Octopus-esque bundle of tendrils.
Then we can drag everyone down with us. AhahaHAHAHAHYEEHAHAHA! ヾ(⊙▽☉)ノ
      Ah…I’m gonna miss this novel.

  1. ___

    1. Stop with the firearms Nepu Cat.
You’re giving bad influence to the young and child readers.
Should use the reversed edge katana, like Battousai.

  2. Thank you as always Reigo-san !
“…Well, that’s about it. It would have been fine to set her a bit younger, but that age was the most convenient for her to apply the techniques and knowledge she obtained, so it just ended up that way. It is not like I was trying to check for the sexual preferences of Makoto-kun.” (Root)
yeah…..sure….. lets ‘believe’ him for that…

  3. Thank you for the chapter…
Well, the cliffhanger is killing me. I want to read about the past from Root’s side -_-

  4. Where is my kapow kapow boom slash? The author is a sadist, cliff hanging the Apple fight and re-introduce Tomocki and AoO again.

  5. I think deep down Makoto is looking for clear distinct reasons to hate Root. He doesn’t openly accept the things he’s heard about Roots actions and from the start I don’t feel that Makoto has ever really given Root the chance to be accepted in his heart. I think over all Makoto is just being stubborn about how he wants to define Roots existence in his heart and can’t help sitting on the fence for it.

  6. It seems acceptance is not something Makoto can apply to his grudges and wants… Maybe as a result of too much power, but it’s obvious that he wants to right everything atound him. Pretty immature, but understandable.
I suppose the difference between him and every normal teenager is the posibility of actually getting away with it. Oh poor Root and Those mercenaries, better bend the knee before the bomb explodes.
He’s looking and acting as high-handed and prepotent as the Buggdess right now.

    1. Lol, don´t tell me it would sit right with you, if a person you know and trust to some extent, did something you see as terrible .
If your Friend told you, that when he was young, his hobby constisted of raping and robbing women and told you “But thats past history. They went to therapy after losing the law suit and life on”, without even one ounce of conscience, don´t fucking tell me you could go on beeing his friend, as if he never told you.
It´s actually called “empathy” to feel anger or sadness for other people. But i guess someone on the internet wouldn actual understand that word.

      1. Not exactly, what I mean is that though empathy is good, it’s no good to invest yourself as the ultimate moral authority on the relationdhips and proceeds of other people. Here he is taking an avenger roll unto people that if they wanted could take action by themselves. It’s not that he needs to agree, rather it’s about him accepting that the other party has gone past that.
Not that I expect someone using Lol as the opening of their rebutal to understand how maturity works.

      2. I agree with u a person who done gruesome things in past life just to be revive to atone for the sins by tampering his/her memories is not not true at all its just a fuckin lie. And worst not all the people will accept something like become a martyr people fate are created by themselve not by others thats why i understand makoto feeling of disgust and not accepting what has been born from his heart of not accepting root not only that they freaking killed the other kind superior dragon futsu when futsu finds out the biggest blander root have done.

  7. Thanks for the chapter~
We’re gonna catch-up with the raws soon, eh? Time is sure flies fast.
Spoiler-san said: “Aznoval comes to Tsige to meet his “old” acquaintance. Raidou know and on friendly-term with the said acquaintance.”

  8. First time I saw this please teach me thing is from Tsukihime I think, and that was like 10 – 12 years ago?
You can probably went back further to Showa manga.

  9. after several chapt i think makoto is a dumbass-beta-MC, fuck you makoto. stop being so fucking stupid and grow a fucking ball !!! dont let others tell u what u have to do ! just do whatever the fuck you want !
fuck , this F word wont fucking stop.
Fucking Thanks for the chapter man !

  10. Thanks for the chapter.
Man, that Root is one big remorseless hypocrite. All its talk of responsibilty when that inhuman hedonist has not taken responsibility for its crimes! Grrr!! I want to trap it in a time loop where right before it accomplishes anything worthwhile it loops back to Makoto asking it to explain itself

  11. Ugh, I’m happy… and unhappy…
Happy there’s another chapter… unhappy because there won’t be much more for much longer for a long while o.O
Thankee for the chapter though! xD

  12. I bet Root will once again rule lawyer his way out of any wrongdoing.
I think that at this point I don’t care for a reason, I just want Root to get a beatdown.
I guess I’m the same as Makoto, that dragon just rubs me the wrong way.
As for Sofia, it’s not really repentance if she isn’t even aware she did something wrong before. At this point it’s a wholy different person correcting her wrongs.
Playing with people’s memory is on the same level as toying with souls, imo.

    1. if this is actually how sofia wanted to be, in a reality where root take responsibilty for something it does, it´s ok. in this way it´s just root wrapping up “sofias living” in a nice package to feed makoto. If this was world, were root was trustworthy i would say it had some mfaotherly feeling and wanted to give Sofia a chance. but this is no such world, so i bet sofia is a sleeper, so root can turn her into a mindless robot anytime and tak ekaleneon hostage, or some shit like that.

    2. Hm, yeah I think part of what makes Root such an unattractive personality is the combination of extreme evasiveness and slavering fetishism about respective things. Also Root’s mode of speech stands out as probing and deflective. Revealing little bits of information and then waiting for a reaction. Using callbacks to things Makoto’s said rather than building an internally consistent argument. It’s a combination that makes him seem incredibly… slimy. “rule lawyer” seems like a pretty good descriptor.

  13. Hmm. I guess that went…pretty much exactly as I expected it to.
Makoto doesn’t approve of Root in any way, but there’s rationally nothing wrong with what he’s doing as far as we know and all his supposed crimes sorta dulled away through the talk.
I’m trying to figure out exactly what’s wrong with what Root is doing and I think I’ve got at least the foundation for an explanation.
In essence, Root’s actions are objectively okay…if you look at it from his perspective-that of an immensely powerful immortal being.
Root seems to have a rather callous disregard for the well-being of others in many senses of the word and has always been powerful enough to do this without any retribution-a retribution Sophia was hoping to deliver. The thing is, Makoto has this too-it’s one of his most commonly discussed attributes. So do all of his followers-though it’s more of an acquired perspective in Shiki’s case. None of these people have the standard “mortal morality”, and they can all be considered monsters in this sense.
Even so, there remains a single important difference between Root and these people. While Makoto and Co. see the lives and even happiness of “mortals” around them as inherently worthless, they leave them alone most of the time and still generally respect their values when it comes down to it.
Root, on the other hand, seems to just see everyone as toys and chess pieces to be played with and used-and possibly discarded as needed regardless of personal attachments.

  14. Thanks 4 the chapter!
We’re not going to see the battle are we? With 3 chapters to go, that’s unlikely. Unless the author continues the WN. Probably have to wait for the LN to catch up.

  15. Yeah…In a weird way, Root has become yet another foil for Makoto, hasn’t he? Rather than Bug’s stupid personality or Tsukuyomi’s odd circumstantial parallels, Root is Makoto’s divine foil in morality. Specifically, they’re both characters that are living lives of being so obscenely powerful that there’s no one meaningful to deliver consequences.
Makoto wants to remain as “mortal” as he can and is constantly trying to adapt to the people around him and sees “no” value in normal people. Root on the other hand, who has lived an immeasurably longer life, has a tendency to literally put value in normal people-that is to say, he claims the right to decide what makes a normal person meaning for existence.
Will Makoto stay this way? Will he slowly become more like Root over time? It’ll be interesting to observe.

    1. Your interpretation is great, Root act more like the devil that whispers in Makoto ear, he is old and has mutch more life expierence that Makoto can comprehend at the moment, he has made hard choices and in him Makoto sees what can drive a leader to make such a decistions if they are justifiable or not. It will help him expand his knowladge and understanding, even now when he explained to Makoto his reasons for Sofia even I though that evenif it reasonable, there is something fishy there, thats not all clear.

  16. Still waiting for the fight and this novel will stop on a flat note.I mean, who writes a book and doesn’t finish it? Thanks for the chapter. Just can’t say I like the way this is going. The Harmony Dragon is almost on the level of the Bug.So,it probably doesn’t matter to him about Hyuman lives in general. Most of the stuff discussed aren’t major issues from Root’s perspective. Makoto, the ballless wonder should just get laid. He’s been in this alternative world for three years already, last time I read something he was 17. Autobots! Let’s Rollout!!!!!

  17. i dont know why but more chapter i read about root the more i think she/he is somewhat naive(base on how i interpret it)
1.killing futsu and having physical relationship other men even though she has her husband is something she truly didnt want. reason being why he did that because he is one of the guardian of the world(or something close to that) but the problem is she/he is powerless in front of the bug…
thats why he did that even knowing that she/he will hated for that.
2.about sofia, i think the one atoning is root.reason why is because sofia is roots child and roots knows why sofia did that and decide to take responsibility by reviving sofia while losing some of her memories giving her a what she truly wants
3.lastly, i feel like root is intentionally making herself an antogonist because she want to make a hero out of makoto

  18. ” sounded out her dormant desires after the bleaching, and imprinted memories of an environment she would accept more easily… her dreamed upbringing was that of being loved by me, grow her power straightforwardly, and contribute to society. ”
Yeah, okay this right here is where the Root’s moral compass is cracked. Removing Sofia’s powers and self destructive memories and letting her have a fresh start instead of straight up killing her? Not evil.
Manufacturing a pseudo-social relationship where she thinks you’re her loving parent? Super. Fucked. Up. Out of expedience, Root’s falsified memories and built a ‘relationship’ around that falsehood instead of building a real relationship. She’s been made to feel indebted to a parent that functionally doesn’t exist.
It’s like. . . Okay remember the illusory happy bullshit land Tomoe threw Makoto into when they first met?
This is like if Makoto had never broken out of that.

  19. Thanks for the chapter, Reigo-senpai.
Well guys… I’m late for a good reason this time. I was up all night helping my step-brother fix a tow truck. That damn thing… it took us the whole night after putting a new engine in it to figure out why it wasn’t running right. After we got the firing order for the pistons working right, we had to figure out why it would stop running when we turned on the headlights. We did all kinds of things only to figure out that it was the ground wires.
Anywho, only 3 left now. Dang it, we need to slow Reigokai down somehow…

  20. If i remember correctly the teach me root-sensei part is parodied from tsukihime . . .
    yah the eroge one . . .
When you reach a bad end Ciel-sensei will give you hints to avoid it.

  21. Thanks for the translation, as always a great work, and an interesting chapter at it. Now lets see how Makoto will process the story from other POV and the morals dilema that those will bring to him. NOOOO the end is near, soon we will catch up and I will be forced to visit the author and deliver him anspeach Liam Nelson style in the TAKEN movei, when his daugther is kidnapped so he begins releasing more chapter. By the way wich will be the series that Regokai will take up???

  22. thanks for the chapter
son miranda and young sofia are both sofia and not clones
that’s still wonder why ‘miranda’ took the name ‘sofia’ when becoming an adventurer

  23. Thanks for the chapter. The whole Root wiping Sofia memory reminds me of manga “World’s Strongest Disciple”. The grandpa in a short arc was fighting these kidnappers at the end he could not forget the leader. But he had the rule never to kill so instead he put his hands together and both into a side karate chop on his head to erase his memory. The one hero who is famous and the worst to do this Charles Xavier from the “X-Men” comics. He has done stuff like having a team of X-men killed then later had memories of them erase from everybody who knew them. Of course he brain washed other people including his own son. So Root might be someone to watch out for. When hear an immortal in anime or any series sometimes that cause a lot of problems such “A Certain Magical Index” movie. Where the villain who became immortal in a little girls body tried to find ways to end her life and came so close in destroying the world. Other series would have in some way have the so called immortals try something reckless in doing something destructive in order to win a battle or to achieve their goal. Such as Vandal Savage in the DC animated movie “Justice League: Doom”, where he tried to rule the world with his members by destroying most of it. Some of the members may be a problem in the future.

  24. Many Thanks for the chapter, obviously to the sponsor-dono too!
Huh, weird. Now that I’ve actually read Root’s side, I find it very rational and logical. Or at least, not so… worth of Makoto’s anger. Rather, I think I was too blinded by MC’s point of view…

    1. Its kind of messed up that if Root does not want you to know something then he just takes that memory from you plus we dont know why Sofia was on that rampage but its to late now that version of Sofia is dead.

  25. my opinion:
the only disgusting thing I get from Makoto’s characters was his view about the value of life… truly.
whats with that gap of difference towards the people of the bug world and his original one… even towards his own student, not even a shred of empathy, but towards the japanese people (Tomoki excluded), the people he accept as his own family, he treated their life as precious thing.
it’s true that to hold and swing a weapon, you need a ‘just’ cause and had the resolve to even kill the opponent or to be killed; while I also can not agree with Root’s way of playing with life; but is it so that simple? I think it is fine to not forgive them, but don’t go towards the path of simply viewing life as something negligible

    1. I thought I’m the only one:
the way the author tackles his view of some life as worthless and some precious is no different from those of priviledged class with their ‘let them eat cake’ attitude, can be funny at times but combined with an ‘I’m always right’ demeanor it became a special kind of gross immediately.
Not only that, his action this time clearly shows that he start to think that everything is about himself. Egomania is like the worst personality for an MC to have even in marry-sue settings.
Pretty rare for an isekai themed MC to fall this low. Whiny SJW-on-a-high-horse kinda low.

  26. Root talking about ‘responsibility’? The irony. The hypocrisy.
I expect in the future someone makes him take responsibility for all the shit he has done for gods know who many thousands of years.

  27. So after this talk about how he doesn’t agree with ending ones life as atonement, why would he let -person- die later because they can’t stand the actions they committed? That persons actions weren’t their own, after all.
