Chapter 288: Wish of Futsu

‘Well then, over here please’, the moment those words reverberated in his head as always, the landscape around changed completely.

The faint red world disappeared, and a forest overflowing in natural beauty appeared.

The shadow of animals could be seen in the corners here and there.

At the place where a tree that was thicker than the rest was located and the sunlight was shining, Aznoval finds a stump and immediately takes action. In other words, he walked to it and sat on it.

His moves felt practiced as if this wasn’t his first time.

And then, he looks at his right, and as if this served as a signal, the contour of a pale blue woman comes out from the shrubs.

That figure didn’t have any specific individual traits, it simply had the figure of an adult woman.

At her hands, she holds 2 mug cups.

There’s no other people here.

There was no Makoto or Tomoe.

“Looks like you were beaten up pretty badly, Azu.”

“Futsu… Even though it has been so long since the last time we met, why are you appearing in such a half-assed appearance?” (Aznoval)

“There’s no point in putting on airs using my figure with you guys anyways. I have already used up all my surprises.” (Futsu)

“What a regret. Truly a regret.” (Aznoval)

“Even if it is something important, I refuse. And so, are you going to answer me? That person, did you finally piss it off?” (Futsu)

She gives one of the mugs to Azu, and while at it, points at his shoulder.

“This is the result of an unlucky encounter. The misunderstanding has been resolved.” (Aznoval)

“‘The misunderstanding has been resolved’? It is been awhile since I have heard that classic phrase of yours. Should I interpret it as your muscles pushing through? Why did you even end up fighting against an apostle of the Goddess?” (Futsu)

“…It was to protect the lineage of my little brother. Well, it was one the few connections I have. Have to treasure it.” (Aznoval)

“I see. Sorry.” (Futsu)

“Being one of the few friends that know my favorite dishes, there’s no need for you to apologize.” (Aznoval)

Inside the mug, there’s a completely white liquid.

It is letting off warm steam.

It is hot milk.

“…It is just milk. But well, it is true that providing a feast for a person that can actually eat is pretty hard in this place though.” (Futsu)

“There was no need to prepare my share, you know. It is the same anyways.” (Aznoval)

“I have to provide the best warm reception for the person that will be bringing the guests I have been waiting for after all. The matter of the shoulder is fine already. Other injuries are…from him?” (Futsu)

“…Yeah.” (Aznoval)

“Fuh~, I was prepared for this, but seriously, he truly is a fearsome outstanding one.” (Futsu)

The mug of Futsu was filled with a blackish brown liquid that looked muddy.

Without hesitating, Futsu drinks from it and sighs once.

“I completely agree with you. Truly fearsome. If I hadn’t surrendered at that moment, I wouldn’t have been able to come here for sure.” (Aznoval)

“Even in your state where you had learned the name of the Princess?” (Futsu)

“…So you really did know. No, I won’t ask you about about how you know about me knowing the name of Princess, okay?! No way I will!” (Aznoval)

Maybe Aznoval remembered something of his past, he screamed as if in a spasm.

“Yeah yeah, I said something unnecessary there. And so, about the future you might have ended up in…” (Futsu)

“First of all, Makoto-kun stopped in the middle of evading the Iai I unleashed. It is the technique that was activated when I first heard of the name of Princess Seoritsu.” (Aznoval)

Aznoval recalls the fight.

The fight that he was doing just a while ago.

It still remains vividly in his memories.

“He purposely received an attack that he could avoid? A technique that you yourself had unleashed for the first time? Isn’t that just you misunderstanding?” (Futsu)

“In my eyes, that’s how I saw it.” (Aznoval)

“What was his aim?” (Futsu)

“In order to bring me down.” (Aznoval)

“…He should have known you are immortal, right?” (Futsu)

“But I do get injured. If I receive a grave injury, there’s the need for time to recover. The worst the wound, the longer it immobilizes me.” (Aznoval)

“…”

“He stopped evading in the middle of it, and received my sword with his head. It cut the meat at his forehead and the blade slipped from his skull. But well, I don’t know at all how much of it was calculated. But for him, that must have been the ideal moment to go on the offensive.” (Aznoval)

“And then, before I can shift the katana and seal the battle with a reverse swing, Makoto-kun would create distance by shooting an incredibly powerful arrow that had several ring-like things added to it.” (Aznoval)

“…Was that his trump card?” (Futsu)

“Next, he would shoot four rapid-fires of the light arrows that incapacitated Rokuya at the *openings of my armor*, and in those few seconds restrained, the silver arms would be appearing at both of my sides.” (Aznoval) <pretty sure he had no armor at that moment>

“Silver arms? What’s that?” (Futsu)

“I don’t know at all. I have never seen them before or heard about them. The Elder Dwarf seemed to obey Makoto-kun, so maybe it is a treasure of them, or maybe it is something Makoto-kun had them make.” (Aznoval)

“So he is controlling armor designed for giants with magic power?” (Futsu)

“…Might be the case, but my intuition is telling me otherwise. Rather than calling it an equipment for giants, it was more like…the arms of a robot.” (Aznoval)

“Robot. Aah, an evolved version of a Golem? The Japanese people called them Robots.” (Futsu)

“Umu. But even so, I felt that even for something like that, it consumed an incredible amount of magic power. He didn’t look like the type who would wish for robots, and it didn’t looks as if he was utilizing equipment for giants. The one point I am certain of is that it possesses dreadful efficiency.” (Aznoval)

“To the point that it would make you unable to act for a long period of time?” (Futsu)

“…No doubt about it. And then, I would be captured in some sort of barrier-looking thing, my whole body would be steadily crushed by some superhuman strength, and in the end, me together with my sword Princess Seoritsu…would be wrung into meat paste.” (Aznoval)

“…Uh, that’s quite the image.” (Futsu)

“Of course, in that time, he continued looking at me with eyes as if he wouldn’t miss any sort of opposition or obstruction as he maintained his bow locked at me, and then…a bizarre conclusion was reached. Seeing that much into the future, I decided on surrendering. Because if I let him go that far, what would be waiting after would only be bad for everyone; the worst end to it all. Nothing good would be left.” (Aznoval)

“Decisive judgement…maybe?” (Futsu)

Was that honest praise, or was it sarcasm?

Futsu looks at Aznoval’s face with a bitter and complicated expression.

“I was about to be made unable to move for half a century.” (Aznoval)

“Against a youngster that hasn’t even been here for a decade?” (Futsu)

“…That’s the part that makes it the scariest. The three this time, counting the heroes, are all a group of excelling individuals. But within them, he is a special one. He is a person that I think fearsome from the bottom of my heart.” (Aznoval)

“I agree that he is special. Even from my eyes, there’s no doubt about it. Yeah, to the point that even if we were to fill up the place with warning posters all around, it would never be enough.” (Futsu)

“Well, that’s why I brought him here ‘while at it’. I wish that he will be able to obtain some sort of experience in this place.” (Aznoval)

“Yeah, I am truly grateful. You have finally brought Makoto to my place. My request has been fulfilled without room for complaints.” (Futsu)

“I am a superb adventurer after all –is what I want to say, but this time was completely a godsend. Also, don’t call it a request. I was simply fulfilling the favor of a friend. Ah, refill for the milk please.” (Aznoval)

Feeling the warm sunlight, Aznoval spends a relaxing time.

***

‘Well then, over here’, with those words of invitation, the landscape changes in an instant.

The faint red world disappeared, and what appeared was a hermitage.

She sat on the veranda, and then, looks at the woods.

There’s no one else here aside from her.

“Well well, I thought I had returned to my home, but that wasn’t the case. In this place, what we see, what we touch is all what you wish it for huh.”

Without making any special movements, Tomoe let out a clear sounding voice.

“Well, it is more like, this is the appearance, aspirations, scenery, and the projection of the heart that you wish for though. Doesn’t look like Lorel. Could this be Japan?”

This place looked like the hermitage Tomoe had made at Asora.

And that hermitage was heavily influenced by a period drama that Tomoe really liked, where the main character had retired to and was living in.

The only thing that was clearly different about it was that in the woods you can see from the veranda, there’s a conifer that has never been seen before.

“So, woman, what business do you have with me-ja?” (Tomoe)

Tomoe talks to the woman that had approached her with the appearance of a village girl from the Edo period.

Being asked her business, the village girl stopped her feet for a moment, but continuing her silence, she sits at the side of Tomoe.

Tomoe, who was sitting in the veranda, stands up.

She didn’t place her hand on her katana. She simply sat back at the fireplace that was at the back.

The village girl nods once and sits opposite of Tomoe.

“Nice to meet you, I am Futsu. Aside from Root and Doma, the other Superior Dragons don’t even know of my name, a very old existence.” (Futsu)

“You are a Superior Dragon, right? It was just recent that I heard that you and Root had an era where you were acclaimed existences in the long past.” (Tomoe)

“Close. That woman -no, he is currently a man, right. Well, whichever is fine. In the old era, it ruled over the skies and harmony, and I ruled over the land and souls.” (Futsu)

“But you incurred the wrath of Root, and as a result, you were killed or imprisoned, hence, you are now here. Was it a fight over a man? Whatever it is, what a loser-ja na.” (Tomoe)

The tone of Tomoe was calm, but there was probably displeasure and hostility mixed in it.

Because she had concluded that there’s a 9/10 probability that Futsu will prove to be a harmful existence for her master.

That’s because even if there have been twist and turns and in the past they couldn’t let their guards down around him, Makoto and Root are temporarily in a cooperative relationship.

It would be better to have a shallow relationship with Futsu, who is clearly antagonistic towards Root.

“Yeah, it is just as you say. The biggest reason was because of a man. And so, now I am the manager of the world of the dead where I know only few.” (Futsu)

“Moreover, after several centuries, even in Lorel, the name of Doma and Futsu are being mixed up. And it will most likely fuse with Doma who actually exists.” (Tomoe)

“I am truly at a loss against the persistence of Root. But in this occasion, that’s of no importance.” (Futsu)

“No importance, you say?” (Tomoe)

“That’s right. My existence has already been accepted to a certain extent by Makoto –no, by Tomoe, so the next important thing is to have you lose your hostility and cautiousness towards me.” (Futsu)

“Are you saying you want to be friends?” (Tomoe)

“…I don’t hold a grudge towards Root. I was the reason why the relationship fell apart to begin with anyways. I am not in an antagonistic relationship with him, and I don’t have any intentions of involving Tomoe’s master into our problems. I promise this.” (Futsu)

“…”

“Actually, the main guest this time is you.” (Futsu)

“…What did you say?” (Tomoe)

“I have no discontent in being the manager of this world of the dead and the souls in it, but…there’s only one thing that I regret.” (Futsu)

“The manager of the world of the dead’s regret. Doesn’t give any good vibes.” (Tomoe)

Grudge of the dead.

Associating it with that, Tomoe furrowed her eyebrows.

“Fufufu, true. When put in words, even I think it wouldn’t be anything decent.” (Futsu)

“Then…Umu, Futsu, that fight between you and Root for a man, what was it that caused your failure? If you tell me that part, I would be fine with hearing what you have to say.” (Tomoe)

Maybe Tomoe thought of something, she showed interest in Root and Futsu’s relationship and an evil smile surfaced in her face.

“Ara, that’s simple. I was unable to accept being the second wife. I wanted to be number one. And, I didn’t want other women aside from me.” (Futsu)

“…I heard that the man that was the husband of Root made a grand inner palace and shut-in there drowning in carnal desire though.” (Tomoe)

“That’s why I lost against Root who didn’t care about other women as long as she were given the chance to give birth to the child of a human.” (Futsu)

“In a place where an idiot and a retard are, if a normal one tries to join in, the normal one will be repelled huh. Even when your wish was normal and humble.” (Tomoe) <Normal is Futsuu in japanese. Probably a play in words here.>

The face of Tomoe was showing clear amazement at it.

“I wonder about that. It is difficult for normal women to get close to heroes. And in truth, he married Root and lived a happy life…and died. The people that were loved by him left numerous children and he was wrapped in love and died in happiness. He truly had a nice face in his final moments…to the point that all of my unsightly emotions towards Root melted.” (Futsu)

“…Did you…meet him here?” (Tomoe)

The eyes that were always directed at Tomoe had for the first time looked away, and Futsu looks at the garden, answering with silence.

On the other hand, Tomoe was at a loss of words in a different meaning.

Because the experience of Futsu was the one that Tomoe had been fearing the most since the time she met Makoto.

“…Ara, I might have found an ingredient for a deal. But it might not be needed…hmm. For now, let’s leave it aside! Well then, can I finally talk about this regret I have?” (Futsu)

Maybe Futsu was aiming to blow away the heavy mood that was going on, she continues the conversation with a pretty cheerful tone.

“Umu, let’s hear it.” (Tomoe)

“I have something I govern that I want you to take over. Even though I’m the manager here, for a long—-a truly long—-time I have uselessly held a treasure of an ability. Isn’t it a waste?” (Futsu)

“What an outrageous thing to say. There’s no way a Superior Dragon can pass over the powers they govern over.” (Tomoe)

“It is possible. Azuma, Doma, Ryuka, Grount, Lancer, and you are the proof of this. For Root and I, it is possible.” (Futsu)

“In other words…you are saying our powers are things that Root had passed onto us? Are you saying that those were originally a part of his powers?” (Tomoe)

Tomoe showed a truly displeased expression.

She didn’t even show any signs of trying to hide it.

“Don’t hate it that much. It already cannot be affected by Root, it is your own power now. Also…” (Futsu)

“What more is there-ja?” (Tomoe)

“Your master will in time -in a not so far future- be breaking into a domain that is the most dangerous within the Wise that have arrived to this parallel world.” (Futsu)

“…The Goddess huh.” (Tomoe)

“So it goes without saying. At that time, it wouldn’t be troubling to have as much power as possible, right?” (Futsu)

The curtains of silence fall.

Futsu waits for the answer of Tomoe.

It was a silence as if everything that had to be said had already been spoken.

Tomoe thinks; about Futsu’s aim, wish, and what she is plotting.

The silence continued for long.

    1. Understood. Operation Bread Banana Potato has been completed. The target is confirmed to be dead. Currently transporting the body and evidence to HQ.

  2. Thanks for the chapter!!!
And we must start a project against those machines and bots…
I propose a worldwide EMP, some lives will be sacrificed, but it will be a neccesary evil.

  3. Thanks for the chapter!

Interesting how they call Makoto an apostle of the Goddess. I prefer the word “replacement”.

      1. i think it was about the destruction of tsige for rebelling against aion? the bugdess losing some source of faith, it was coincidence that root(looking for makoto since he made the him mad) and aznoval (looking for toa and rinon since he heard about their existence)…. met the girl/woman who was the apostle sent by the bugdess….

    1. Futsu has no intention of leaving the land of the dead, but she’s willing to pass on the unused authority of the God/Dragon of the Land, that rivals Root’s mastery of the Sky.

  4. So frustrating! Last couple weeks i read through the chapter, look over to my WordPress tab, notice the new update notification, and think, “Oh My God is there a second chapter of Tsuki?!”

    It’s always an update to a story i don’t read, on a site I’m following….

  5. Thank you Reigokai !
    ~ as always…

This is a sponsored chapter huh. What more, a TsukiMichi chapter. You really spoil us.

A bit late today because I was looking for a new job. Yup, a new job.

… and you guys are commenting too fast. There goes my cookies (Psychronia promised, remember?)

      1. Orca’s doesn’t eat plankton, except if the plankton happens to be a 3foot long and has lots of meat then he can eat it

    1. A bit late today because I was looking for a new job. Yup, a new job.

Pft, who would hire a Flying Orca … unless your applying to a position usually occupied by the fighter jets

    2. Yeah, you have to fill in the punch card at ever First to get your cookies.

Some friendly advice: The cookies are baked every second and fourth week of the months, so time your exchange for optimal freshness.

    3. Best of luck for you! Apparently many people are busy around these time so the comments are not as plenty as the other chapter… a bit saddening don’t you think?

  6. Thanks as always Reigokai !
well… to think the clairvoyance give him that far of injured conclusion…. and even could make him recupetate for half of century… hueheuheue
and to think the fight between Root and Futsu is about the Legal wife standing…. is it really the fight about that when Root mention his fight with Futsu ? i dont really recall its about Legal Wife standing though :/

    1. I recalled it about how Futsu doesn’t want that guy to be a hero/founder of the best class that legends tell him to be…. though heroes tend to have large harems maybe its connected

    2. If I remember correctly, Rokuya mentions that she (Futsu) was against the creation of the guild system. Now that I think about it… someone who governs the land of the dead and souls probably disliked people who are cheating death with immortality.

    3. Luckily, Tomoe and Mio negotiated this matter since the very start. No risk of that particular conflict here.

A war to obey Makoto vs. Making him immortal, on the other hand…

  7. I am not surprise to see that Futsu wanted to be the first wife of root’s husband, I AM NOT…

That aside, it seems to me like, Futsu and Root’s desire is the same…
They seems to want the world to be independent from the current goddess…

  8. Thanks for the chapter.
Haaah, what a jumbled mess of shit that world is. Makoto better up his game because everyone around him is scheming something and he is part of it. Even if he benefits from it, the fact that he is everyone’s pawn is starting to really piss me off.

  9. Thanks 4 the chapter!

Dragons have authorities like deities? I thought Tomoe’s power over illusions are just her ability. I didn’t realize it was her authority.

        1. Thanks.
Actually, the topic about love has already been discussed in this site before. That sounds weird but this community is just like this I guess.

Bear with me for a while Piklibear. I just want to add that while love really do make you act crazy /do embarassing stuff, it also makes you very possessive. If you ever fall in love (I mean fall HARD, head to toe kinda stuff not just a crush) you will know that possessive feeling…. but somewhere in your mind knows that you can never own a person fully. The one you live is still another person, not a thing you can keep forever.

That’s what I and Mario feel for Futsu.

          1. Hoo… I have never fall in love before so… don’t know how it feel, but I do understand it by logic though. I don’t know if i should be happy or not…

          2. Eh. Love is probably the closest emotion to insanity.

Whether or not never having loved is a bad thing is really a matter of perspective. If you don’t feel the same as someone else, then connecting isn’t possible.

But that also means you can hold the objective perspective and judge these matters more logically.

          3. Perhaps that is the reason why those girls always go to me to get some love advices…

The irony is I am never been in a relationship even once before… quite a unique situation eh?

          4. Hey, perspective is a valuable asset. Even more so if you can polish it up with some insight.

Not just love, I don’t know how many times I’ve been able to help a person out with silly problems just by listening to them complain, then reiterating their problem to them.
Other than clarity and the occasional paradigm shift if you count them, I’ve rarely contributed any input of my own, but hey, whatever solves the problem, right?

          5. Yea! often the soulution is already there and we just need to change perspective to do it!

…but even if I tell them a solution in the end whatever the result is in their own hands though… those girls don’t have the courage to change their perspective and instead stall and stretch their time thin… hahaha…

          6. Ah. When it comes that, I’ve found that people are more responsive to you laying out information that helps them draw their own conclusion without recommending anything. Though it’s also important to emphasize why choice X is the healthiest route for them to take. A bit on the manipulative side, but it’s what works out best for friends.

Beyond that, all you can do is make yourself a good influence.

          7. And that’s not a problem, since all you have to do is tell them what you observe and think of their situation without giving them advice.

Blunt enough to give the dots for them to connect in as simple a form as possible.

          8. I think that what happened with Futsu was that she and the man weren’t in the same weavelength, I mean she saw posible for him to be enough for her to love but he didn’t he was more in sintony with Root way of viewing love.

          9. All this talk about love reminds me of a story premise I was originally working on for Valentines. The premise revolves around an entire lineage of yanderes who have developed their own internal culture for the sake of helping coexist with society.

This kind of setup led to a more philosophical look at love itself, which was rather fun. Actually, I might have ended up putting it off precisely because it required some careful thought to make it work, which is a shame, because the examination led to some interesting questions.

For example, is it a gift or a curse to fall in love only once in your life? What about being able to recognize your fixation other half on an instinctive level that’s pretty much love-at-first-sight?
Moreover, if you manage to avoid a bad end, the one with the yandere gene gets to live out their ending in crazy euphoric happiness.

      1. More than that, actually.

To truly feel love is to want to die without them. To truly show love is to let them go if that’s what’s best for them.

To truly act on love is to willingly, deliberately, let yourself suffer and die.

        1. Your view of love is one full of self sacrifice. It shouldn’t be like that. That view will bring tragedies like Romeo and Juliet. You have to be more greedy and assertive in love, like Yorishiro. Say what you think and what you want. Say that ‘I love you’ and ‘I want you’. State it clearly. Be firm. Don’t sacrifice for nothing. Be the man !

If you ask me, my view of love is a vanilla one. Romantic and fragrant, like me. 🙂

*looks at an unrecognizably disfigured ugly lump of flesh, weakly wiggling (beating?) to death*

“Ugh… What is that?” you asked.

That’s my tiny heart. (Flying Orca)

“Wha !? What happened?” you ask again.

          ‘Life’ happened.
I wanted a sweet vanilla-like love life and real life throws me lemons… a truck full of lemons along with said truck. (Flying Orca) 🙂

          1. Oh no. Not at all. Love is principally give and take.

I’m just talking about possibilities and the key point I was making was that by loving someone, you are effectively forfeiting a large part of your life and fate to them. Which is a pretty obvious statement, when you look at it like that.

As far as assertiveness goes, yeah. I think there’s a such thing as a “healthy amount of jealousy”.

  10. Nice is Deus Ex plot incoming? take free chip….” power” latter get Rekt? , still great chapters awesome work w8 for new ones keep the great work.

      1. They said deus ex though. Doesn’t that just mean “God from…”?

Or in other words, aren’t they talking about the creation of a god and not a “god from the machine”?

  11. Thanks for the chapter regokai, a great way to star the wee for me. Now I really hate Root ex, I don’t know if its because of my highstandard morals or because I am bitterly jelous of him (problaly the second) That guy had it good. Wondering what will be Makoto view and what could Futsu want from him, and since when has she been waiting for him????

    1. It’s a classic value clash.

I can’t say I approve of him as well, but we also don’t know what exactly happened so I’m willing to limit my judgement to “a bad impression”. Root also said that her husband and Makoto would probably have gotten along.

…Actually, you know what? The story of how the two most powerful dragons in the world(universe?) fell in love with a wise sounds like it has potential as a good read in and of itself.

      1. No scratch the high values moral, I am just plain jelous of that bastard the two most powerfull dragin had the hots for him, an the one he choose even let him have his fun with other people. That guy had it way to good!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Awesome news on the bug Goddess bitch slap/punch, now how long is the “in a not so far future” in terms of chapters?

  13. Reading the chapter made me think that Futsu is either:
    a) joining with Makoto’s side against the Goddess.
    b) trying to trick Makoto for her hiddden motive.

She is unusually informative for someone who has been trapped in the world of the dead since thousands of years ago. This makes me very curious.

The chapter also made me realize that all dragons and superior dragons are indeed descendants of Root and Futsu.
Both of them must’ve been the original high dragons that inhabits the world before Goddess takes over the world from it’s previous diety. Root as Uranus and Futsu as Gaia. The only twist in this story is that they’re both female dragons that fall in love with the same man (the first Wise).

The fact that they can grant their powers to other dragons (and that Root had granted/divided powers to other superior dragons) piqued my interest. I suspect that when Root took Futsu’s power in the past, he couldn’t handle all of it in his body and had to release part of them out (to the superior dragons who were still young and it gave birth to their powers). The only power that Root couldn’t steal must’ve been the control over the souls and the dead. If she give that to Tomoe… *shudder*

It seems that Futsu uses her domain or powers to meet each of them separately. Aznoval in a different place, Tomoe in a different place, and most probably Makoto in a different place. Next chapter will be her meeting with Makoto.

    1. It seems that Futsu and Root were or similar power levels but probably different in nature, one more suited for granting life, the other for bringing destruction. Root the holder of destruction ended up winning the battle and claimed the prize (hubby 1).

I really doubt that Root claimed any of Futsus powers. The implication of the explaination that Futsu gave Tomoe is that all of the abilities granted to her by the “Land” portion of her portfolio have been left unused since the time of her death a LOOONG time ago. After her death Futsu was able to continue using ther ability that granted her power of the dead and it is how she came to be the ruler of the place they are in now.

Root split his powers as an experiment and because he was bored (I think he mentioned it back when he was killing Sofia) , not because of his reaching some sort of limit on how much power he could possess.

    2. I don’t think “descendant” is the right word so much as “creation”.

For example, Lancer was apparently a weapon that Root placed her power into for shits and giggles. I think it’s more likely that the two…hmm…”Supreme Dragons” released offshoots of their power which eventually became sentient and took the form of the rest of the Superior Dragons.

Some of the Superior Dragons formed intentionally and some were not. After they reincarnated a few times themselves, these offshoot powers got stronger and developed their own identities.

This is all speculation, but I think it probably went something like this? Either way, Futsu is about to pour her power into Tomoe (Huehue), which is an unprecedented thing. Something that’s itself an interesting experiment.

  14. Holy hell… that was brutal Makoto, you really got carried away in that fight. Aznoval really did a good thing by surrendering and avoided worst case scenario.

  15. mmm what need of dragons when he has some friendly over the top gods and goddess from his former world?… i mean SHIVA, ATHENA…. well lets see what “power” is she talking about, and root keep getting far away from the friendly realm chapter by chapter… mad scientist….

  16. This people…… what the heck is wrong with them!?
That Waterfall Dragon and now this Futsu? Are they really so afraid of Makoto?
Though they don’t know the full potential of Makoto and him being visited by the gods of the Earth, they suspect, scheme, plotted against him because they can’t trust someone with that kind of power and only means sealing or killing him. They don’t believe Makoto true desire to lived a good easy life instead they’re just disillusioned themselves as he is someone that power beyond their imagination and turning it against the world.
Least the gods of Earth accept Makoto’s power and fate but the beings in the world govern by b***h Goddess have so many disillusioned upon themselves of Makoto’s power including his female friend a Hero.
This guys are so a headache that need some therapy that knowing the person they feared is not that gonna let the darkness inside of him overtake him completely.
And this Futsu is now trying to conspire Tomoe….. such delusional head of her….

“Your master will in time -in a not so far future- be breaking into a domain that is the most dangerous within the Wise that have arrived to this parallel world.” (Futsu)
    – Dangerous for others but not for Makoto.
    – He’s power already surpassed the Goddess but he is unknown how to unleashed or use it all.
    – Remember the deities of Earth and the Fates have mentioned that Makoto have the power of a God inside of him and in no time break away from his mortal shell and deified to a God.

    1. So far there has been no indication of Futsu conspiring aginst Makoto, heck she is offering Tomoe the oportunity to power up so she can be of more use to him in his confrontation with the Goddes. Now I don’t know in the future or if this is a well thoug complex plan, but for the time been she hasn’t attacked him or laid a plan for such a thing.

      1. Yeah, and that’s really suspicious for this world. Not that I view her as antagonistic, it’s just she’s the losing end of the original Dragon duo with Root. Scheme. Scheme. Scheme.
Just what is the regret Futsu wants to push onto Tomoe?
Just a thought but is she hoping to get pregnant?
        Thanks for the chapter

    2. I can’t see anything that futsu did that could anger you. all she did was supportive to makoto.
what did you see? I don’t understand you.

      >they’re just disillusioned themselves as he is someone that power beyond their imagination and turning it against the world.
yeah, it’s not as if it was what happened in every paralleled worlds, amirite?
remember that makoto is very cold and distant about lives in battles, and very emotional in making his decisions. e.g: he invaded a country in demon’s territory on a whim because he was in bad mood after a talk with the goddess.
Zef know it and it’s the reason what he acted that way, he know that bringing makoto to his side can bite him back in the worst way, as well as he can anger him unknowingly on an indirect way. so the best he could do was to offer him gifts and be buddy-buddy to make him feel indebted and reluctant to turn against demons.

      >Least the gods of Earth accept Makoto’s power and fate but the beings in the world govern by b***h Goddess have so many disillusioned upon themselves of Makoto’s power including his female friend a Hero.
No. Shiva prepared himself to destroy the world if makoto where to go berserk.
and the dreams he sent to makoto with his advice showed a real concern about that part.

      >This guys are so a headache that need some therapy that knowing the person they feared is not that gonna let the darkness inside of him overtake him completely.
yeah, they need a therapy because they aren’t omniscient. seem legit.

      >And this Futsu is now trying to conspire Tomoe….. such delusional head of her….
      when?

      >Dangerous for others but not for Makoto.
so, makoto can fights gods without any risks? since when?
and it go against your words when you said “they’re just disillusioned themselves as he is someone that power beyond their imagination”

      > He’s power already surpassed the Goddess but he is unknown how to unleashed or use it all.
since when did he surpass the goddess?
and you’re saying he can’t use his power as well as a god, so he is obviously at disadvantage in a fight.

      >Remember the deities of Earth and the Fates have mentioned that Makoto have the power of a God inside of him
      When? citation needed

      delusional
      ADJECTIVE
1.Characterized by or holding idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder.
1.1 Based on or having faulty judgment; mistaken.

      TL;DR: aren’t you a bit delusional?

      1. It IS suspicious that the first thing Futsu did was separate Tomoe and Makoto. Also, Aznoval’s discussion with Tomoe was specifically crafted to make her more receptive to both Futsu, and her offer. That’s a fairly hard pitch to sell something with no strings attached.

    3. While I find Futsu a bit suspicious overall, I don’t really have a bad feeling or anything regarding her.

Her motive is vague, but she’s shown no sign of malice, nor scheming, nor ambition. Unless you see something really dodgy with her, I say we give her the benefit of the doubt for now and see where her consultation with Makoto takes us.

      1. I see many things and sometimes mistaken it but sometimes schemes can be hidden underneath that very obvious kind intention. I see the part that Futsu want Tomoe to be the new head of the underworld but also found suspicious why she’s offering that to Makoto’s subordinate. Even there’s says she letting Tomoe become the new head that can help her master trained his power, there’s also that kind of an unknown trap or plot to them. Not everything is fair and goodies especially in a world governed by a bitchy goddess who only prizes her children and brushed off the other races, such an ugly goddess that’s not even worth to call it a goddess.
Futsu may be well a forgotten existence in the surface but it doesn’t mean anything from there has only a beautiful smile. Makoto’s situation after all is very harsh that’s also correlating to his incredible bad luck from his title that Root known but not the holder himself. His existence is proven that can shift the very essence of the world and found by others as dangerous it can be and often plotted dark thought that can harm the innocence of Makoto’s followers and residence, acquaintance on his side. Although the gods and goddesses and even the Fates of the Earth found no wary of Makoto’s existence. They are more profoundly interested of what the young boy more capable to do beyond as they say that even before he was given power from the Moon god, he was already holding a unique strength and talent that can shift the modern world. And by adding up a god’s power his existence is completely well beyond that can tilt the balance.
And I say Futsu is either have no intention or has a hidden intention.
Let just see in the next chaps and want their faces gaped opened wide of the unexpected things they seeing…

        1. Well i didn’t saw Futsu offering Tomoe rule over the underworld, I though that what she wanted Tomoe to hineret her powers as the Earth Dragon as contrabalance to Root Heavenly Dragon, but I can be mistaken. Besides the Goddes excistence shoudn’t affect the Superior Dragons way of thinking giving that she wasn’t the one to create them, they were in that world before she came so her character should be unrelated to the way of the Superior Dragons to act.

  17. thanks for the chapter

why was there rings on makoto’s arrow? I am pretty sure it was said his arrow are made of the same material than the rings, he shouldn’t need them to fight

      1. that’s not the point.
if the arrow are from the same material as the rings, they are basically weaponized rings, rending rings useless in battle.

    1. I believe that the Eldwas made a special arrow with slots where Makoto can put in / equip his rings in it.
They can make arrows with the Draupnirs already embedded inside but extra slots will allow more than just 2 or 3 Draupnir rings to be added.

      More rings, more power.

    2. The arrows act as large rings and store his power, however to charge them up can take some time. They go from white to red during the charging and their power output jumps at the same time.

Your question is the same as “Why add more granades to that granade? It’s already a granade you don’t need to add more granades to it” You add more because you want a bigger boom.

It is also possible that the arrows he has been firing were not charged up and sticking a couple of rings on it is a shortcut method to get the equivalent damage as a fully/near-fully charged arrow in a quick and dirty way.

      1. but if you want a bigger boom, you don’t strap grenades together, but make a bigger bomb.
the most logical way to see it would be to enlarge the arrow to be able to draw more power.
if he can charge rings beforehand he should be able to charge arrows beforehand too.

      2. As I said, it was a quick and dirty way to increase the power. Something he thought up in the middle of the fight as a way to do some serious damage to a fast regenerator to give him the time he needed to pull out the arms and lock his target down.

You also can’t just increase the size of an arrow, there is a practical size to these things and if you make it too big it would not work well with the bow. After this he is likely to have a couple of arrows charged up in storage somewhere in case he runs into a situation like this again. A fully charged arrow is very dangerous though, you remember the damage 1 ring did, the arrows are like a 1-2 foot long ring. Instead of a sliver of stuff used as a setting the shaft of the arrow is made of the stuff. For safety reasons having fully charged arrows laying around is probably a really bad idea.

Makoto is often thinking up ways to deal with situations he has been in so that the next time he finds himself in a similar position he can deal with it with less effort. If Aznoval fights Makoto again in a serious battle in a month or two he is likely to have his head handed to him without much effort on Makotos part. The best way to beat Makoto is to take him by surprise and deal with him in one blow. Of course this is next to impossible these days as his base power is so high and he always has a lot of defenses up to keep that sort of thing from happening again, something he learned from the fight with Sofia.

    3. Maybe it’s a matter of charge time? If Makoto felt like Aznoval wouldn’t give him the opening to charge his arrow or he needed to pile on the damage in quick succession, then it might be possible that he goes with the rings he’s already wearing-precharged and ready to explode already.

Just to be clear, I’m assuming this ring part is something that hadn’t actually happened and was only part of the vision.

    4. Because it’s more efficient to use multiple charged-up ring rather than taking time charging an arrow in a close fight.

  18. Thanks for the chapter. When think of Futsu I think of Angrboða from the Marvel Universe as Goddess of the Dead. She is part of the Thor series it makes me wonder if the author got this idea from either the Norse mythology of the “Thor: Ragnarok” movie that is coming out? But the female villain in the Thor Movie is Mistress Death.

    1. well Azumi Kei herself already use a lot of God/Goddess from different kind of religion and myth and even do quite extensive research for it , if not i wont know that Shiva in Hinduism are also Daikokuten in Shintoism

      1. I am not real sure. I just know that Goddess of the after life is part of the Marvel Universe and not really sure of any other religions with Goddess of the After Life. The only kind of mythology I really know is the Norse and the Greek.

        1. I pretty much knew about myth from the Marvel and DC comics, also from my days in middle school. My sister was into Egyptian mythology and culture, I read a little of it her books but I was a little kid at the time.

      1. It would be like Futse NTR a pact with Makoto from Root, and she would totally brag about it like his magic feel so warm in me, he left me full of it!!!!!!

  19. This… is unexpected… far beyond what I ever imagined… Tomoe inheriting futsu’s power? Damn! The future will certainly be an exciting one~!!! I thought futsu’s business is going to be about a certain spell… and it seems I was wrong… and I am delighted that I was wrong! This is more excitin this way!

On another note thank you for the chappy~!!!

    1. I just thought of something: what IF Futsu is plotting for Makoto to overthrow the goddess and be a god in her place? I mean.. Futsu governs over the land and souls. so will Makoto if Tomoe inherit her powers.

I dunno what futsu knows of Makoto but I bet she dislikes that goddes. And she thinks he might be able to fight bug and win.

      1. You know, at this point it would actually be kinda weird if Makoto didn’t just become some kind of god.

…But it would also make for a super interesting subversion if he tries and succeeds in denying his divinity.

      2. @Psychironia indeed! I think would be interesting (I would never deny my eternal life and immortality) but I don’t think he will. I mean.. Tomoe would kill him if he could be immortal and denied it leaving both girls alone. Mio would probably devour herself in despair.

  20. Thanks for the chapter.

“I don’t know at all. I have never seen them before or heard about them. It seemed to obey the Elder Dwarf, so maybe it is a treasure of them, or maybe it is something Makoto-kun had them make.” (Aznoval)

I’m fairly sure this should be:

“I don’t know at all. I have never seen them before or heard about them. The Elder Dwarf seemed to obey him, so maybe it is a treasure of them, or maybe it is something Makoto-kun had them make.” (Aznoval)

Aznoval saw a Elder Dwarf in the party so it is reasonable that the Elder Dwarves, at least some of them, follow his orders are members of his company. Based on this he makes a guess that the Silver Arms are relics that either the Elder Dwarves had already made and kept as treasures or were things he had them make at his request. I also don’t think there was any mention at any time of the Elder Dwarf in the group pulling out and uses the Silver Arms. The first time any of the people there saw them should have been when Makoto pulled them out. They use way too much power to be controlled by someone normal and would have been complete overkill for a fight with the merc troop.

“I want someone to succeed the things I govern over. There’s no need to be the manager here. There have been powers that have been unused treasures for a truly…truu~ly long time. Isn’t it a waste?” (Futsu)

“I want someone to succeed the things I govern over. As the manager here there is no need for them. There have been powers that have been unused treasures for a truly…truu~ly long time. Isn’t it a waste?” (Futsu)

As the Manager of the land of the dead Futsu has no need for the “Land” portion of her powers, as such they have been left unused for a long time, since her defeat. While Futsu probably still needs and uses the “Souls” portion of her powers the rest is just being wasted potential currently.

    1. Can anyone make the changes? Doesn’t look like the post has been noticed.

BTW, the title can have two meanings. “Futsus Wish” or “An Ordinary Desire”.

      1. Hmmm.
-For the first correction, ‘obey him’? as in obey Makoto? That would sound pretty out of place in that context of the sentence. So it actually confused me a lot too when translating. Maybe the hands have some semblance of sentience as in Makoto has allowed the Elder Dwarfs to move the hands to a certain extent.
-Regarding the second change, Futsu tells Tomoe that there’s no need for her to be the manager of the World of the Dead, I am pretty sure of that.
-About the chapter name, well, that’s an untranslatable one. ‘Ordinary Wish’ and ‘Wish of Futsu’, if I had to choose, Wish of Futsu would fit the context better, since her wish is definitely not ordinary (in my standards).

      2. Aznoval has been around long enough to have noticed that the dwarf in the party was actually an Elder Dwarf instead of an ordinary one. He probably also knows that the Elder Dwarves are a prideful race. He was probably around back before they shut themselves off in the wasteland to work their craft undisturbed. If the Elder Dwarf was fighting in a life and death fight without the intention to kill the other side under the orders of Makoto then it is a follower of his that is obeying his orders. He suspected that the Silver Arms were armor made for a giant or something similar that the Elder Dwarves had in their vault of treasures that Makoto was borrowing or it was something that Makoto had them make for some reason. He did notice that that theory didn’t quite fit so he ended up a bit confused about where the arms really came from.

Did the arms show up at all before Makoto pulled them out in the fight with Aznoval? Even if the arms were used in the fight against Picnic Garden by the time Anzoval showed up most of the fighting was over. I’m not sure he had a chance to really see any of the fight between the 3 Kuzunoha staff and the mercs. I’m not sure how he could specluate that the Elder Dwarf could control the arms.

        「私が司るものを継承して欲しいの。ここの管理人をするのに必要ない、長らく――本当に長らく――宝の持ち腐れになっている能力を幾つかね。勿体ないでしょう?」

“I have something I govern that I want you to take over. Even though I’m the manager here, for a long—-a truly long—-time I have uselessly held a treasure of an ability. Isn’t it a waste?”

Or at least that is closer to how I would have translated it. If it had been “ここの管理人をするの必要ない” then the translation would have been fine. However there it is the particale “のに” instead of just “の” so the meaning is different. Also “ここの管理人をするのに必要ない、長らく――本当に長らく――宝の持ち腐れになっている能力を幾つかね。” is one sentence instead of two, that is a comma after the “必要ない”.

The sentence breaks down into “ここの管理人をする” “のに” “必要ない、長らく――本当に長らく――宝の持ち腐れになっている能力を幾つかね。”. “のに” is the equivalent of “even though, although (in spite of the fact that)” so pulling it out and putting it in the right position for English it becomes:

In spite of the fact that “ここの管理人をする” (I am the administrator here) “必要ない、長らく――本当に長らく――宝の持ち腐れになっている能力を幾つかね。” (unneeded treasure like powers have for a, long–truly long–period rotted (unused) in my hands)

I’m having trouble expressing that last part properly in English. I understand what it is trying to say but can’t think up appropriate wording for it.

On the title, It is another one of the titles that can have multiple meanings refering to different things in the chapter. It is one of the fun things the Japanese like to do. “The Wish of Futsu” could refer to the request for Tomoe to inherit part of her powers. “An Ordinary Wish” would refer to the fairly ordinary desire to be with the man she loved and to not share him with others. Didn’t really have an issue with the chosen title as either one would have been correct, although the chosen one has more context with the cliff like end of the chapter.

        1. Oh right, I misinterpreted the meaning of the 必要ない here.
          Thanks for pointing it out.
I will also try to fix the arms, that’s nagging me as well.

      3. Hmm not sure if it was clear but I meant the “obey him” as in the Elder Dwarf is obeying Makoto. Not the Elder Dwarf was obeying the arms or the arms were obeying the Elder Dwarf. He was asked where he thought the arms came from and he said he didn’t know but there was an Elder Dwarf in Makotos party that was following his orders so maybe the arms were something that the dwarves owned.

Now I can’t tell if I’m getting repetitive or not… it kind of feels like it so I should probably get some sleep.

  21. It took a long while(in comments time), but I’m finally here! Woo!

Firstly, wow. I was not expecting a (rejected?) harem member history from Futsu. Rather, since my understanding of her fate is that she lost the war when she was opposed to instating the adventurer’s system, my impression of her was “Administrator who refuses to bend her own rules”.

…Well, I guess the “refused to compromise” aspect can still technically be called true. Her image in my mind did become just a little more like Root with that detail though. She didn’t “die” for her pride as a “god-like being”, but for her pride as a “woman”.

Man, I really feel bad for her now. It might just be my earth values, but wanting a monogamous relationship sounds like an incredibly reasonable request to me. Granted, we don’t know how forceful she was about it before, but as it stands my opinion of the harem maker at the center of it all definitely fell with this.

  22. Feels good hear from Azu itself the situation in that moment and his big defeat. Makoto have to obtain a immortality like the one of gods.

The training of Makoto with the bow is like die and resurrect again so maybe he will gain something big in this world?

  23. Whoa. From the three men that were transported from the Adventurers of Origin, the two strongest superior dragons fought over the same one. I kinda want Munemori to appear sooner than later, but i feel like he is going to be just another weirdo.

  24. “I completely agree with you. Truly fearsome. If I hadn’t surrendered at that moment, I wouldn’t have been able to come here for sure.” (Aznoval)

Me: I THOUGHT YOU WHERE IMMORTAL?! ALSO DOES THIS CONFIRM THAT MAKOTO DOESN’T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IMMORTAL PEOPLE?!

Tomoe stand by your master at the very end… Be one of his one and only! BE HIS WIFE A BARE HIS CHILD!

    1. He is immortal, it just would have taken him 50 years to regenerate from that state as he stated after that

          1. hmm… can a period of time around thousand years(mentioned in the fight between this Azu guy, Root and the Apostle in previous chapters) be called eons?

      1. In addition, the 50 years were on the assumption Makoto would stop at the end of the vision and never return for a follow up.

    2. “I was about to be made unable to move for half a century.” (Aznoval)

he explained that the regeneration of the wound will take longer if the attack is powerful

        1. I don’t know about those Rings but if he really made into meat paste I bet a full scale war would break out (Alter) between the two forces but for sure that Makoto side would win for sure but he would definitely ganna lost a few to those “immortal”

  25. I think what Futsu is trying to say is that Root created the other 6 superior dragons using her(Futsu’s) power after Root killed her and absorbed her powers.(As mentioned by the origin heroes a while back).
Root probably couldn’t use them himself because he was incompatible, just as he can’t use this last one Futsu is passing on to Tomoe now.

Perhaps Sofia was trying to revive Futsu with her plan to absorb the superior dragons?

    1. Sophia did not even know who Root was; so I don’t believe for a second that she had any idea or knowledge about Futsu.

      1. Also, Sofia went to the labyrinth to kill Doma, but so far we didn’t hear of any attempts of her trying to go for lowers levels than the 20th floor.

    1. I doubt there is a living cow in the land of the dead, moreover Azu even asked for a refill in place. It’s confirmed a Dragon’s milk.

  26. Is everyone in this series an idiot? Makoto was just trying to talk. But you tried to kill them from the moment they walked through the door.Even after doing all this, Makoto is ready to make up with you.But you tried to kill him. When you finally realize that he is much stronger than you and will be crippled for a long time if you keep fighting, you declare him the villain…
Seriously, all of you are just garbage. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/1fea7fd608fcb3624627f7e062240ef68d49ad4717c6fd618929a95a7eaef161.jpg

    1. Thankfully only this part of the arc is this quality and once this lorel arc ends the origin adventurers appear in less than 10 chapters

        1. Do not expect something good really. The whole arc with them i just the author trying and failing at flexing their moral superiority.

          1. is this arc good? i paused it when makoto vs marikosan princess and just read the comment afterwards lol

          2. Okay, in the begining this arc has potential bruh, then how about the overall novel? Is this bearable ?

  27. It’s sad what happened to that dragon. But as she said, it was her in the end that couldn’t handled things. And she missed out on all that time she could have spent with him. I think that is another regret she has. But at this point she can’t do anything about that one. 🙁
